  • Publication number: 20020044564
Abstract: A method and an arrangement are disclosed for implementing fast signalling in a communication connection between a base station and a mobile station of a cellular radio network. There is defined an arrangement of repeatedly occurring frames that consist of pieces of allocatable radio communication capacity between the base station and mobile stations communicating therewith. Pieces of radio communication capacity are allocated from the arrangement of repeatedly occurring frames to dedicated communication channels. A certain piece of radio communication capacity is allocated from the arrangement of repeatedly occurring frames to a non-dedicated fast signalling channel between the mobile stations and the base station. This piece of radio communication capacity allocated to a non-dedicated fast signalling channel is used for conveying fast signalling messages between at least one mobile station and the base station.

  • Patent number: 6345183
Abstract: A method and a system in a digital radio system for signalling between a base station and a subscriber terminal. The signals transmitted over the radio connection between the base station and the subscriber terminal comprise bursts consisting of symbols. The bursts comprise a known training sequence. According to the invention, the training sequence is used for signalling. By the invention, it is possible to implement signalling related to power control of the base station or the subscriber terminal, or in packet transfer, the numbering of bursts, packets or other data blocks.

  • Patent number: 6339697
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for setting a service level in a digital mobile communication system, and to a digital mobile communication system. The method of the invention is characterized in that a network interference load is defined and network parameters or, in connection with the establishment of a connection, transmission parameters are set at a base station and in a mobile station according to the network interference load. The invention further relates to a mobile communication system.

  • Patent number: 6308066
Abstract: The object of the invention is a method to determine channel information in a cellular system, in which method user information is transmitted in information frames, which are transmitted by the current cell base station, and in which method neighbor cell base station information (105, 205, 305, 405, 505, 603, 612, 615, 622, 623, 632, 633) is received in order to synchronise to the neighbor cell base station. Preferably the method can be used to speed up or to enable the determination of channel information in connection with handover from the area of one base station to another. In the method according to the invention the user information transmission/reception is preferably interrupted during the reception (205, 305, 612, 632) of user information, which can be i.a. the signal level, the base station identity code (BSIC).

  • Patent number: 6233229
Abstract: A TDMA cellular radio system and a method of allocating available frequency bands to different cells in a TDMA cellular radio system wherein at least some of the receivers within the system use interference cancellation methods which cancel the effects of co-channel interference in a desired signal. To enable efficient use of interference cancellation and the resulting capacity increase in the system, the frequency bands available for the cellular radio system are allocated to different cells so that groups of adjacent service areas are formed in the system. Each group uses the same frequency band within the service areas, whereby at least one co-channel signal interfering with the desired signal is significantly stronger than other co-channel interfering signals.

  • Patent number: 6108328
Abstract: The object of the invention is a method and an arrangement for separating signals operating in the same channel. In the solution according to the invention, the signals to be transmitted are conditioned so that the receiver at the other end of the transmission route is able to separate an effective signal from an interference signal. The invention can be applied in the TDMA systems used in data communication cellular networks.

  • Patent number: 5995499
Abstract: A signal detection method in a TDMA mobile system with co-channel interference and receivers implementing the method. In the method, a primary signal (r.sub.1) and at least one interfering co-channel signal (r.sub.2 -r.sub.N) are received on the same TDMA channel (F.sub.1, TS.sub.3). The co-channel signals propagate through multipath channels (h.sub.L,1 . . . h.sub.L,N) independent of one another, which provide them with a unique wave form coding. In addition, the co-channel signals have different but known training sequences. The multipath channel estimates of the primary signal (r.sub.1) and the at least one interfering co-channel signal (r.sub.2 -r.sub.N) are determined through the received training sequences. After this, the primary signal is detected by utilizing the transmission channel estimates of both the primary signal and the at least one interfering co-channel signal.

  • Patent number: 5563895
Abstract: A digital mobile radio communication system, in which a burst of speech or data, is transmitted, and an error check is carried out for each burst and when the burst is incorrect, information about the incorrect burst is transmitted to the transmitter. Hereby, the transmitter retransmits the same burst or a burst containing information related thereto, preferably prior to producing a subsequent burst. With the procedure the delay in transmission can be made shorter.

  • Patent number: 5479444
Abstract: In radio phone systems with a digital cellular design currently used a training sequence of constant length, consisting of an guard part and a reference part, is included in a transmission burst between a base station and a mobile station. With the aid of a received training sequence, the receiver calculates the impulse response of the channel and is thereafter adapted into the channel. The quality of the connection can, according to the invention, be enhanced in that the training sequence is made adaptive, whereby the lengths of the guard part and the reference part may vary while the total length of the training sequence remains the same. According to another embodiment, also the total length of the training sequence is changed.
