  • Publication number: 20170310071
Abstract: A method for generating femtosecond vortex beams with high spatial intensity contrast, where a noncollinearly pumped HG beam femtosecond laser generates femtosecond HG beam and a cylindrical lens mode converter converts the femtosecond HG beam to femtosecond LG vortex beam. The HG beam femtosecond laser comprises a pump source, a gain medium, a saturable absorption mirror as mode-locker, and an output coupler with a noncollinear angle between the laser beam and the pump beam in the gain medium, which enables the laser to generate pure, order-tunable femtosecond HG beams. Femtosecond vortex beams obtained after the cylindrical lens converter have high-intensity-contrast, and are topological charge-tunable.

  • Patent number: 9784312
Abstract: A method for increasing load capacity on a porous aerostatic bearing through use of a two-phase fluid that is less viscous than lubrication oils and the bearing gap is of the size of air bearings. The porous material throttles vapor and liquid. As liquid goes through the porous media, the pressure drop from the porous media resistance causes it to vaporize. The increased volume flow in the bearing gap reduces the vapor flow rate through porous media, resulting in higher pressure in gap. As the vapor-liquid mixture escapes from bearing gap, another vaporization occurs at the end of bearings which retards escaping, and further increases pressure in the gap. The liquid portion of the two-phase fluid in the bearing gap increases the load capacity and stiffness, similar to hydrostatic bearings fed with liquid. The vaporization absorbs heat generated by bearing friction to allow higher relative speed between bearing surfaces.

  • Publication number: 20170237559
Abstract: One embodiment of the present application provides a system for key management. During operation, the system determines a key block from a key sequence obtained based on Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) and a time sequence identifier for the key block. The system synchronizes the key block with a corresponding key block of a partner key management system based on a hash of the key block and the time sequence identifier. If the synchronization is successful, the system stores the key block and the time sequence identifier in a key pool. If the system receives a request for a key from an application, the system acquires the key block from the key pool and validates the key block with the partner key management system based on a hash of the key block and the time sequence identifier. If the validation is successful, the system provides the key block to the application.

  • Publication number: 20170237558
Abstract: One embodiment provides a system for facilitating distribution of quantum keys. During operation, the system receives, from a requester, a first request for a key, wherein the first request indicates a requested length for the key and identifying information of the requester. The system determines whether a subset pool of a general pool of keys is allocated to the requester based on the identifying information of the requester, wherein the keys in the general pool are generated by a quantum engine. In response to determining that a subset pool is not allocated to the requester, the system allocates a subset pool to the requester. The system obtains from the allocated subset pool a key with a length matching the requested length, and the system returns the obtained key to the requester.

  • Patent number: 9711931
Abstract: A simultaneous temperature- and wavelength-insensitive parametric amplifier comprising a pump laser, a signal laser, and a crystal amplifier. The pump laser system on a first optical pathway includes a Nd:YVO4 laser oscillator-regenerative amplifier and a Nd:YAG boost amplifier. The pump laser beam is generated from the pump laser system, passes through the first image-relay system, and is frequency-doubled in the frequency-doubling crystal. The signal laser system on a second optical pathway comprises a Ti:sapphire regenerative amplifier and generates the signal laser beam, which passes through the pulse stretcher and is temporally chirped and imposed with an angular dispersion by the first grating. The chirped signal beam and pump laser beam are intersected with a noncollinear angle of >5° in the crystal amplifier for temperature-insensitive phase-matching (PM).

  • Publication number: 20170126316
Abstract: One embodiment provides a system for measuring optical fiber channel loss in photonic communication. During operation, a first multiplexing device receives a first signal which is a photonic signal and a second signal which is a reference light signal transmitted by a first measuring device. In response, the first multiplexing device couples the first signal with the second signal, and transmits the coupled signal via an optical fiber channel to a second multiplexing device. The second multiplexing device separates the coupled signal into a separated first signal and a separated second signal, and transmits the separated second signal to a second measuring device. The system obtains indices related to a degree of loss of the optical fiber channel based on the separated second signal.

  • Publication number: 20170054555
Abstract: Embodiments of the present application provide apparatus and methods for generating a shared key, including setting up a key negotiation connection, and determining an algorithm code by negotiating using the key negotiation connection. An algorithm corresponding to the algorithm code is retrieved from a pre-stored algorithm library, and a pre-stored seed key is calculated using the algorithm to obtain a shared key. Compared with traditional key generation methods, embodiments of the present invention avoid the problem of a high bit error rate that occurs in the traditional quantum key generation methods, especially quantum key generation methods. One exemplary method determines an algorithm code through negotiation, retrieves a pre-stored algorithm corresponding to the algorithm code, and generates a new shared key using a seed key.

  • Publication number: 20160242324
Abstract: A container-type data center includes an elongate container and a longitudinal rack row in the elongate container. The elongate container includes side walls, and the longitudinal rack row is arranged longitudinally in the elongate container. A cold aisle and a hot aisle are respectively formed between each of two sides of the server rack row and a corresponding one of the two side walls. The longitudinal rack row forms a single communication channel communicating the cold aisle with the hot aisle. The longitudinal rack row includes a server rack and an air conditioner rack. The communication channel allows staff to move between the cold aisle and the hot aisle and thus prevents air circulation from being effected by ambient environment due to entry and exit of the staff.
