Patent number: 9877252Abstract: A mobile station in a Long Term Evolution (LTE) communication network transmits Packet Data Convergence Protocol (PDCP) protocol data units to a base station and the base station transfers corresponding PDCP service data units to a core network. The mobile station is configured to support handover from a source base station to a target base station. The mobile station generates new PDCP protocol data units for missing PDCP service data units, and transmits the new PDCP protocol data units to the target base station, responsive to signaling from the target base station that indicates which PDCP service data units have been successfully received at the target base station. The new PDCP protocol data units are generated using ciphering specific to the connection with the target base station, from corresponding PDCP service data units buffered at the mobile station.Type: GrantFiled: August 5, 2016Date of Patent: January 23, 2018Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (publ)Inventors: Magnus Stattin, Michael Meyer, Janne Peisa, Ghyslain Pelletier, Mats Fredrik Sågfors, Per Johan Torsner, Henning Wiemann

Patent number: 9426710Abstract: In a wireless communication network where base stations receive protocol data units (PDUs) from mobile stations for decompression and deciphering for ordered, sequential transfer as service data units (SDUs) to an associated core network, the teachings presented herein provide a method of supporting seamless handover of a mobile station from a source base station to a target base station. By way of example, the teachings herein apply to a network based on the E-UTRA specifications, as promulgated by the 3GPP. However, that example is non-limiting, as the teachings herein apply to any network that employs in-sequence data delivery and duplicate data detection at handover. Broadly, the source base station forwards out-of-sequence SDUs and corresponding sequence number information to the target base station in support of seamless handover, and the target base station uses that information to request retransmissions as needed for packet reordering.Type: GrantFiled: July 25, 2014Date of Patent: August 23, 2016Assignee: TELEFONAKTIEBOLAGET LM ERICSSON (PUBL)Inventors: Magnus Stattin, Michael Meyer, Janne Peisa, Ghyslain Pelletier, Mats Fredrik Sågfors, Per Johan Torsner, Henning Wiemann

Publication number: 20160234814Abstract: UTRAN MAC-d multiplexing of data from multiple logical channels to a single MAC-d flow is supported while reducing overhead and achieving octet alignment in MAC-d PDU length. In one embodiment, the C/T field of a multiplexed MAC-d PDU is eliminated, and the logical channels multiplexed into the MAC-d flow are mapped to a MAC-hs PQ in at least the NodeB (and preferably in the UE as well). In other embodiments, the C/T field is retained, and an octet-aligned length indicator is transmitted from the RNC to the UE. In one embodiment, the length indicator is octet-aligned by padding the MAC-d PDUs. In another embodiment, transmitters and receivers in the path from RNC to UE are configured with an offset to add to the length indicator to achieve octet alignment. The padding or offset is (8?n) bits, where n=the number of bits in C/T field.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 15, 2016Publication date: August 11, 2016Inventors: Anna Larmo, Stefan Henrik Wager, Janne Peisa, Per Johan Torsner, Mats Fredrik Sågfors

Patent number: 9191895Abstract: A method for use in a cellular system with a controlling node and user terminals, UEs. In the system, UEs can assume one of at least two states, a non-listening state, i.e. a state during which a UE does not listen for data from its controlling node, and a listening state, an “on duration” state. According to the method a UE in the system is able to alternate between said two states according to a certain scheme, the scheme according to which a UE in the system alternates between said two states being dependent on whether or not data units which are transmitted between the UE and its controlling node are received entirely and correctly within an initially allocated resource for each data unit.Type: GrantFiled: January 28, 2014Date of Patent: November 17, 2015Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget L M Ericsson (publ)Inventors: Ghyslain Pelletier, Jonas Pettersson, Kristofer Sandlund, Per Johan Torsner

Patent number: 8964539Abstract: According to the teachings presented herein, a base station implements active queue management (AQM) for uplink transmissions from user equipment (UE), such as a mobile terminal. The base station, e.g., an eNodeB in a Long Term Evolution (LTE) network, uses buffer status reports, for example, to estimate packet delays for packets in the UE's uplink transmit buffer. In one embodiment, a (base station) method of AQM for the uplink includes estimating at least one of a transmit buffer size and a transmit buffer queuing delay for a UE, and selectively dropping or congestion-marking packets received at the base station from the UE. The selective dropping or marking is based on the estimated transmit buffer size and/or the estimated transmit buffer queuing delay.Type: GrantFiled: July 1, 2009Date of Patent: February 24, 2015Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget L M Ericsson (publ)Inventors: Riikka Susitaival, Yifeng Tan, Per Johan Torsner

Patent number: 8724579Abstract: A method in a wireless communication system for reporting buffer information includes selecting a format for a buffer report based on a number of radio bearer groups, k, for which data is available for transmission by a user equipment. The buffer report indicates a respective buffer fill level for one or more radio bearer groups associated with the user equipment. The method also include encoding a buffer fill level for one or more radio bearer groups in a buffer report in accordance with the selected format and transmitting the buffer report.Type: GrantFiled: August 13, 2012Date of Patent: May 13, 2014Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (publ)Inventors: Per Johan Torsner, Mats Fredrik S{dot over (a)}gfors, Stefan Henrik Andreas Wager

Patent number: 8705431Abstract: A transmitter that may have marginal power availability is enabled to autonomously retransmit previously transmitted frames containing the same data. The transmitter sends an initial frame to a base transceiver station (BTS) and immediately retransmits the same frame without regard to any ACK/NAK transmission from the BTS. The retransmissions are accumulated in the receiver and decoded after a sufficient quantity of the frame is transmitted. After receiving the last retransmitted frame the BTS sends an ACK/NAK to the transmitter that is accepted.Type: GrantFiled: May 10, 2004Date of Patent: April 22, 2014Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget L M Ericsson (Publ)Inventors: Per Johan Torsner, Janne Johannes Peisa, Maria Edvardsson, Christer Edholm, Erik Dahlman, Stefan Parkvall

Patent number: RE46569Abstract: Method and apparatus for conveying feedback reports from a data receiving party (300) for data received from a data sending party (302) in a wireless connection. A plurality of feedback resources (304) assigned to different feedback information codes are allocated to the data receiving party for transmitting feedback reports. After checking whether the data was received correctly or not, the data receiving party selects a feedback resource (FR2) with a feedback information code that corresponds to one or more feedback reports on the received data. The data receiving party then sends feedback information on the selected feedback resource to the data sending party, thereby conveying the corresponding feedback information code. In this way, multiple feedback reports can be conveyed in a single feedback resource to the data sending party while still retaining single carrier properties.Type: GrantFiled: December 9, 2015Date of Patent: October 10, 2017Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (publ)Inventors: Tobias Tynderfeldt, David Astely, Stefan Parkvall, Per Johan Torsner
