  • Patent number: 10856246
Abstract: A method in a user equipment for updating a timing of a first cell is provided. The timing is the arrival time of a signal sent from a base station in the first cell relative to a clock in the user equipment in a wireless communication network. The user equipment measures a timing offset for the first cell and respective one or more second cells. When a quality of the timing offset measurement of the first cell is below a first threshold, the user equipment computes a timing offset estimate for the first cell based on the measured timing offset for the respective one or more second cells. The user equipment then updates the timing of the first cell based on the computed timing offset estimate.

  • Publication number: 20200305170
Abstract: A base station (11) of a wireless cellular communication network operating in unlicensed spectrum adjusts (118) the robustness of a downlink transmission in response to the power level of any interference encountered in the channel and the source of the interference. The base station (11) estimates (110) whether the source of interference encountered is a eLAA or WLAN network (110). An offset to a transmission format—a measure of transmission robustness to noise and interference—is calculated (112) in response to the interference power level and the source of the interference. An initial transmission format is adjusted (118) by the offset, and data are transmitted (120) to a UE using the adjusted transmission format. In other embodiments, the base station (11) may compare its interference to that detected by the target UE, to ascertain whether the two likely have the same source.

  • Patent number: 10785732
Abstract: A network node (840) and method therein for shaping an output power spectrum of a signal (920) to be transmitted in a wireless communications network are disclosed. The signal (920) is transmitted within a total frequency range or bandwidth comprising a first frequency bandwidth and a second frequency bandwidth. The network node increases or boosts a power of the signal (920) in a part of a first frequency bandwidth and/or decreases/deboosts a power of the signal (920) in a part of the total bandwidth outside the first frequency bandwidth. The network node then transmits the partly increased and/or decreased signal (920) to a wireless communication device (850) operating in the wireless communications network.

  • Patent number: 10701565
Abstract: A network node for wireless access is operating in a cellular network for an unlicensed frequency band and arranged for serving wireless devices in the unlicensed frequency band. The serving of the wireless devices in the unlicensed band relies on making a clear channel assessment in the unlicensed band for ascertaining that the unlicensed band is currently not occupied by other transmissions and when not occupied commencing transmission. Upon commencing the transmission, the network node is arranged to attempt scheduling a paging message together with a message providing a discovery signal and determine whether the transmission of the discovery signal and the paging message use the same subframe scrambling code, and if they do, transmit the paging message and the discovery signal in the same subframe. A method and computer program for the network node are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 10694410
Abstract: In one aspect, a wireless device monitors radio link quality for a link between the wireless device and a wireless transmitter that is configured to transmit a discovery signal at spaced, periodic, intervals and that is further configured to intermittently transmit subframes carrying user data, such that the wireless device is unable to predict which subframes will carry user data before attempting to detect the subframes. The wireless device collects, for each of the spaced, periodic, intervals, discovery-signal signal quality metrics corresponding to the discovery signal. The wireless device also collects, for each detected subframe carrying user data, detected-subframe signal quality metrics corresponding to the detected subframe.

  • Patent number: 10667197
Abstract: A network node of a terrestrial cellular system provides telecommunications service to a user equipment (UE) in an airborne aircraft. Navigation information transmitted from the aircraft is periodically acquired, including aircraft identity, position, altitude, and a time of determining aircraft position. A link is maintained between the network node and the UE by transmitting beam steered, Doppler shift compensated downlink signals, and by performing beam steered reception of uplink signals. Beam steering is directed toward the aircraft based on the navigation information. Doppler shift compensation is adapted to compensate for a Doppler shift such that the UE experiences a nominal carrier frequency when receiving transmissions from the antenna nodes. Handover from a first to a second coverage area includes using a same cell identifier and a same frequency allocation in the second coverage area as are used in the first.
