  • Patent number: 7153321
Abstract: A surgical forceps has blades of arcuate shape and handles which are urged apart by springs on a guide blade which mounts the blades by a pivot joint. The guide blade projects below the blades. Gripping means formed by bifurcated arms on the guide blade will, when moved apart, grip an intercostal drain tube between grippers. The forceps carrying an intercostal drain tube, can be inserted between a patients ribs and the handles are then moved towards each other to splay the blades apart to provide a channel for the insertion of a tube. The guide blade may also be mounted between the blades.

  • Publication number: 20060266766
Abstract: Fluid-dispensing apparatus include a fluid-dispensing needle. A gas discharge member is positioned proximate a dispensing end of the needle that is configured to direct a gas towards a fluid tear-off position below the dispensing end of the needle. A controller controls discharge of the gas by the gas discharge member to control dispensing of fluid from the needle. The dispensing control may control an amount of fluid dispensed from the needle and/or tailing off of fluid dispensed from the needle. The amount of fluid dispensed from the needle may be a microliter range volume of a viscous fluid.

  • Patent number: 7085137
Abstract: An apparatus for providing multi-directional signaling interface connection of a printed circuit card within a computer chassis. In one embodiment, a blind swap cartridge carries a circuit card that includes a first signaling interface connector in the form of a PCI edge connector. The edge connector is movable via a pivot point on the cartridge in a substantially transverse direction with respect to an insertion direction of said blind swap cartridge. In accordance with the present invention, a second signaling interface connector, such as a SCSI connector, is rigidly affixed to the exterior of the blind swap cartridge. The second signaling interface connector is preferably disposed on the cartridge in an orientation such that its connection direction is substantially aligned with the blind swap cartridge insertion direction. A flexible interconnect member is preferably utilized to couple the second signaling interface connector to the circuit card.

  • Patent number: 7054812
Abstract: A system is provided for determining a sequence of sub-word units representative of at least two words output by a word recognition unit in response to an input word to be recognized. In a preferred embodiment, the word alternatives output by the recognition unit are converted into sequences of phonemes. An optimum alignment between these sequences is then determined using a dynamic programming alignment technique. The sequence of phonemes representative of the input sequences is then determined using this optimum alignment.

  • Patent number: 7045717
Abstract: A carrier that houses an external cable terminated at a male cable connector that mates with a female midplane connector on a midplane in a server blade computer is presented. The carrier includes side channel guides that align the carrier with the female midplane connector for a precise mating with the male cable connector. A light channel in the carrier captures light from a status light emitting diode (LED) at the midplane, and transmits that light to an externally visible end of the carrier.

  • Patent number: 6994572
Abstract: The invention provides an apparatus, system, and method for enabling the installation of an installable device configured with a required component in a receiving device. A component deactivated interlock obstructs the installation of the installable device when not configured with the required component. The invention makes use of an extendable and retractable plunger disposed upon the installable device, a stop barrier disposed upon the receiving device, and an actuator disposed upon the required component. The plunger normally extends beyond the installable device, and upon contacting the stop barrier of the receiving device obstructs the installation. Upon a physical connection of the required component with the installable device, the actuator retracts the plunger, thereby enabling the installation of the installable device.
