  • Patent number: 6045173
Abstract: A vehicle console includes an enclosure having a top defining an access opening communicating with an internal storage bin and a cupholder recess spaced forward of the access opening. A cover mounted on the enclosure has three operating positions including a closed position covering both the cupholder recess and the access opening, a partially open position exposing the cupholder recess for use but covering the access opening, and a fully open position uncovering both the cupholder recess and the access opening for access to the storage bin. The cover is mounted for slidable movement between the closed and partially open positions and for pivotal movement between the partially open and fully open positions.

  • Patent number: 6032256
Abstract: An I/O port locking computer security system is implemented in the power management module of the hardware-software interface program (BIOS). A hotkey sequence of keystrokes activates the portlock feature and a system management interrupt signal (SMI) is generated. A SMI handler routine receives the interrupt signal and generates a signal to a hardware device handler. The device handler receives the signal and then disables various data transfer I/O ports on the computer (e.g., serial, parallel, fax, modem, floppy drives, and infrared communication ports). I/O ports in the disabled state cannot be accessed. Thus, data in the computer cannot be transmitted, copied, or "beamed" via infrared, to an unauthorized system or medium. I/O ports in the disabled state are enabled after receiving a password and a SMI interrupt signal is generated. A SMI handler receives the interrupt signal and generates a signal to a hardware device handler.

  • Patent number: 6001057
Abstract: A self-contained isolation and environmental protection life support system for shielding a patient contained therein or, alternatively, isolating a contaminated patient from a clean environment while allowing treatment of traumatic injuries to the patient. The system comprises the combination of an environmental control system (ECS) and a containment enclosure that are designed to function in concert with conventional life support stretcher. The ECS component possesses an air management system that is designed and configured to extract contaminated particles and gas from the external air and deliver the same to the patient contained within the containment enclosure. To facilitate such delivery, the containment enclosure is preferably provided with a plurality of tubular passages which are designed to be filled with air provided by the ventilator system to thus cause the containment enclosure to expand to form a semi-rigid structure.

  • Patent number: 5976735
Abstract: There is described a lithographic plate which comprises a base coated with a photopolymerisable composition which comprises a polymeric binder, at least one free-radically polymerisable ethylenically unsaturated compound and as the photoinitiator combination a metallocene compound, N-phenyl glycine or a substituted N-phenyl glycine or an N-phenyl glycine derivative together with a third component which is a substance which helps in the reaction initiation but also increases the sensitivity of the photopolymerisable composition to a desired region of the spectrum.

  • Patent number: 5976764
Abstract: There is described a method of preparing water-less lithographic plate which comprises imagewise exposing a lithographic plate coated with a photosensitive composition, processing the exposed plate in an aqueous based developing liquid to remove those areas of the photosensitive composition which are removable by the developing liquid, drying the plate and coating the plate with an ink releasing coating composition which adheres to those areas of the plate from which the photosensitive composition has been removed, but which does not adhere to those areas of the plate from which the photosensitive composition which has not been removed, further treating the plate to cure or fix the ink-releasing composition thus providing ink-receptive areas of the plate which are those areas of the plate from which the photosensitive composition which has not been removed in the developing liquid and ink-releasing areas of the plate which are covered with the cured ink-releasing composition.

  • Patent number: 5961352
Abstract: Personal computer motherboards commonly have connectors located on them for the insertion of plug-in adapter cards. Disclosed is a connector having a first opening in which a PCI adapter card may be inserted and a second opening in which an adapter card of a second type, such as an ISA or EISA card may be inserted. The connector has an insulating moulding common to the first and second openings. By using such a connector, the spacing between slots may be reduced from that required when separate PCI and ISA or EISA connectors are used. This allows either a lower profile for a personal computer or for more connection slots to be incorporated.

  • Patent number: 5950625
Abstract: An isolation bag for isolating a casualty from a contaminated environment. The bag is preferably fabricated from a transparent, biochemically resistive material and is specifically designed and configured to be utilized in combination with a self-contained transportable life support system. The isolation bag is further provided with a plurality of tubular passages which are designed to be filled with air provided by the transportable life support system to thus cause the isolation bag to expand and form a semi-rigid structure. A multiplicity of apertures are formed upon the tubular passages in such a manner that enables refreshed air to pass therethrough which washes over the patient in a head-to-toe direction such that rapid removal of toxic and infectious residues is facilitated.

  • Patent number: 5912664
Abstract: An apparatus and method for presenting a viewer with an overall representation of the present number of entertainment programs available for selection given one week of program schedule data for 300 or more channels and one or more filtering criteria to limit the number of items represented in the overall representation. Sequentially applied filters will filter the group of program schedule data items that has at least 100,000 half hour time slots offered by 300 channels each week into a smaller subgroup where individual consideration of each item of the subgroup can be made in a reasonable time. A set top box drives the display of overall representations or results of filtering criteria on a commercial TV set. Once a reasonable sized subgroup is obtained, other displays provide specific information of the program offerings of the subgroup.

  • Patent number: 5851180
Abstract: Apparatus and methods are provided for compressing biological tissue for use with a radiographic or sonographic imaging system that enhances imaging of the tissue near a patient's chest wall. The apparatus includes a compression assembly having first and second compression surfaces, and structure for positioning the first compression surface relative to the second compression surface so that the first and second compression surfaces experience a lateral translation as they move towards one another. In addition the first and second compression surfaces may be tilted slightly relative to a plane orthogonal to the patient's chest wall to enhance the traction effect and to provide partial imaging within the patient's chest wall.

  • Patent number: 5831611
Abstract: A process management system is described for creating and executing graphically depicted communication processes. The process management system includes a graphical process editor facilitating the creation of communication processes on a graphical user interface. The graphically depicted communication processes visually represent to a process programmer the relationships between the events comprising the communication process. A process manager executes a set of events comprising both scheduled events and control events corresponding to the graphically displayed events. Furthermore, the process manager may operate in an immediate or real time mode to process the events of the communication process.

  • Patent number: 5822385
Abstract: In many applications, for example in a telecommunications system, it is necessary to identify a unique data sequence at a high speed serial data interface within one bit period of the complete sequence being received. This pattern recognition is often used in order to synchronize the receiver to the frame timing of an incoming data stream and thus identify the octet boundaries. It is usually required to react to this pattern within one data bit period at the interface in order to synchronize internal counters. A data stream pattern recognition apparatus recognizes a predetermined pattern of sequential data within a data stream by including a state machine having at least as many state units connected in series as there are bits in the predetermined pattern, the state machine transfers sequentially from state to state on receipt of each bit of the series.
