  • Publication number: 20060148937
Abstract: The present invention relates to a nonionic methyl ethyl hydroxyethyl cellulose ether having a flocculation temperature of 70-95° C., a DS-methyl of 0.1-0.8 and a DS-ethyl of 0.1-0.7. The cellulose ether has versatile properties and may be used as a thickening agent or a rheology modifier in an aqueous formulation, such as an aqueous latex-containing paint composition. A process for manufacturing the cellulose ether is also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20020121224
Abstract: This invention relates to a suspension of a water-soluble, nonionic cellulose ether having a fairly low content of an electrolytic salt exhibiting a high stability and a low viscosity. The suspension having a pH-value of below 8.

  • Patent number: 6150445
Abstract: The present invention relates to an aqueous concentrate of an associative thickening polymer, the concentrate containing a nonionic surfactant as viscosity-reducing agent. The nonionic surfactant is water-soluble and has the formulaRO(--AO--).sub.(a) H (1)wherein R is an alkyl group having 6-12 carbon atoms and AO is an ethyleneoxy or propyleneoxy group, the ratio of the ethyleneoxy groups to the total number of ethyleneoxy and propyleneoxy groups being from 1:2 to 5:6, and a is a number between 7 and 16. The presence of a small amount of the nonionic surfactant results in a surprisingly great reduction of the viscosity, which permits the formulation of concentrates having high percentages of the associative polymer without negatively affecting the properties when the concentrate is used for thickening purposes.

  • Patent number: 5935315
Abstract: The present invention relates to a low-viscosity pigment dispersion free from organic solvents and containing a fatty acid amidoalkoxylate as dispersing agent. The amidoalkoxylate is of the formula ##STR1## wherein R is an aliphatic hydrocarbon group having 7-22 carbon atoms, preferably 9-18 carbon atoms, A is an alkyleneoxy group having 2-3 carbon atoms, X is hydrogen or the group (A).sub.n H, wherein A has the meaning stated above, n is a number of 1-15, the sum of all n being 3-20. The pigment dispersion can be used in paints based on water as well as organic solvents.

  • Patent number: 5898072
Abstract: The invention concerns an aqueous suspension of a non-ionic, water-soluble cellulose ether cross-linked with glyoxal, in the presence of an electrolytic salt which gives a pH value below 8.0 in water and at the concentration involved. Conveniently, the suspension is produced by mixing the water included with a dry blend containing the cellulose ether and the electrolytic salt, and preferably the other components of the suspension as well.

  • Patent number: 5837864
Abstract: In a method of producing a suspension of a nonionic cellulose ether that has no turbidity point, the water forming part of the suspension is mixed with a dry mixture containing a cellulose ether, which is cross-linked with glyoxal, and an electrolyte salt. This electrolyte salt consists of a salt of a mixture of salts which, in water and at the concentration employed, results in a pH value below 8.0. Preferably, the cellulose ether is a hydroxyethylcellulose.

  • Patent number: 5496908
Abstract: A water-soluble polyurethane, including a polymer backbone; end groups provided on the ends of the polymer backbone and containing water-soluble oxyethylene groups having a molecular weight ranging from 400 to 15,000, and groups pendant from the polymer backbone and containing hydrocarbon groups having 8-22 carbon atoms, in a number of at least 0.1 per urethane bond. The water-soluble polyurethane has moderate viscosities in aqueous solution and is especially useful as a thickener, for instance, in alkyd- or latex-based paints.
