  • Publication number: 20070260413
Abstract: Image measurement values of a measurement object, in particular a printed sheet, measured by means of a photoelectric image measuring unit operating on the basis of pixels are corrected with respect to at least one influencing variable which influences the measurement result with a view to at least partially eliminating the effect of this influencing variable on the measuring process. The image measurement values measured by the image measuring unit are converted by correction parameters of a parameter-based correction model into corrected image measurement values which no longer contain the influencing variable affecting the measuring process. The correction parameters used for the parameter-based correction model are automatically calculated using reference measurement values measured at reference measurements points on preferably the same measurement object by means of a reference measuring unit and the image measuring unit.

  • Patent number: 7280118
Abstract: A system and method are provided for producing a color palette including a multitude of color patterns for a predetermined coloring process with a multitude of defined base colors and for a predetermined substrate. The individual color patterns are systematically, especially equidistantly, defined in a mathematically defined color space by the way of color coordinates describing the color space. The spectrum of the color pattern is synthesized by calculation for each color pattern in the color space by way of a color mixing model representing the predetermined coloring process and the predetermined substrate, whereby that spectrum is selected having the highest color constancy. The spectra synthesized by calculation are stored in relation to the color coordinates of the underlying color patterns. Through use of a mathematical/physical basis (such as the CIE-system), it is possible to define a visually equidistant color space and assign a spectral curve to individual points having the best color constancy.

  • Publication number: 20070086009
Abstract: For the colour measurement of samples printed on a substrate including a brightener, a raw spectral reflection factor of the sample is measured in a first measurement by illumination of the sample with light without UV portion. In a second measurement, a fluorescence spectrum of the sample is measured by illumination of the sample with only UV light. The measured fluorescence spectrum is recalculated as a corrected fluorescence spectrum by weighting with spectrally dependent correction factors and, finally, the measured raw spectral reflection factor and the corrected fluorescence spectrum are added to form a corrected spectral reflection factor from which the values characterizing the colour of the sample are then calculated. The spectral correction factors are determined during the device manufacture for a certain set of light types and stored in the device.

  • Publication number: 20070081204
Abstract: In a method for determining color and/or density values for use in monitoring and regulating a printing process in a printing apparatus, specifically in a sheet-fed offset printing press, measuring areas of a printed sheet are measured photoelectrically during the printing process, directly in or on the running printing apparatus. From the measured values obtained in the process, the color and/or density values for the relevant measuring areas are formed. From the measurement, measured value deviations caused directly in the printing process with respect to a measurement outside the printing process can be corrected computationally.

  • Publication number: 20070079717
Abstract: Spectral, densitometric, or color measured values are detected on sheet printing materials during the printing process in a sheet-fed printing press. The measured values are determined on sheets as they are moving through the printing press and the measured values are used in real-time by a computer to control parameters for controlling the printing process in the sheet-fed printing press.

  • Patent number: 7113315
Abstract: An electronic projector (beamer) is equipped with a profiling device (100) internally or externally connected thereto through standard interfaces. The profiling device includes all functionalities required for the color management (color measurement, calibration, profile generation, etc.) and corresponds with the projector (200) by way of a simple text based protocol. The latter can be implemented relatively easily by way of software in the projector, so that no changes to the fundamental concept of the projector are required. The profiling device can therefore on the one hand be easily integrated at the factory into existing projectors and on the other hand used as external complement to available projectors. The profiling device can however also be an independent device for the profiling of other electronic display devices (for example monitors) as well as for other, for example metrological tasks.

  • Publication number: 20050094209
Abstract: A color management system using distributed profiles includes a color printer adapted to print controlled color using a custom profile. The color printer system creates a custom profile by reading its initial characterization data, the profiles of the inks and the profile of the paper used in the printer. The color printing system includes a spectral measurement module adapted to generate spectral measurement of an output of the color printer. The printing system computes its initial characterization data by using the output of the color printer, measured by the spectral measurement module. The printing system updates the paper profile, the ink profile and/or the printer characterization data based on the measurement of the spectral measurement module.

  • Patent number: 6844931
Abstract: A spectrophotometer including an optical measurement head, a spectrometer and a control electronic. The measurement head is equipped with a multi-channel illumination arrangement having exclusively light emitting diodes as spectrally continuous light source. Each illumination channel includes a light emitting diode, whereby each light emitting diode is separately controllable. In combination with the control electronic, an illumination with electronically adjustable spectral characteristics is hereby realized.

  • Publication number: 20030169421
Abstract: A spectrophotometer for measuring light received from a sample is disclosed. The spectrophotometer includes a measurement head housing a sample and an illumination arrangement having a light source essentially continuous in the visible spectral range, formed by light-emitting diodes. The measurement head includes an illumination channel for each light emitting diode directing the light from each diode at a defined angle of incidence onto a measurement spot on the sample and a collecting arrangement capturing the light originating from the measurement spot. A spectrometer is optically connected to the collecting arrangement for splitting the captured light into its spectral components and for generating corresponding electrical signals. An electronic circuit, constructed for selectively controlling the light emitting diodes, controls the illumination arrangement and the spectrometer and processes the electrical measurement signals.

  • Patent number: 6545808
Abstract: A phase mask (15) for modulating a collimated light beam passing therethrough, the light beam being diffracted to photoinduce a refractive index profile in a photosensitive optical medium, the phase mask (15) comprises a substrate (17) having an outer surface provided with a plurality of parallel grating corrugations (19). The grating corrugations (19) have a non-uniform relief depth across the outer surface for photoinducing a non-uniform refractive index profile in the photosensitive optical medium. The non-uniform relief depth is defined by a variable thin film layer (21) of variable thickness overlaying the substrate (17). The grating corrugations (19) can either be etched into the variable thin film layer (21) itself or be etched into the substrate (17), with the variable this film layer (21) being deposited on it after etching. Methods to make such phase masks are also provided.
