  • Patent number: 5470422
Abstract: The use of "limp", i.e. 70-durometer Ethylene Propylene Di-Monomer ("EPDM"), construction material for an auto windshield insert molding which is installed in the gap between the windshield and the oversized windshield opening by a method contemplating manual adjustment of the molding crown to any height variations while the stem of the molding is being engaged by urethane that is curing, such that previously required hold-down adhesive strips are obviated as were required when using flexible construction material that resisted manual adjustments of the crown. By eliminating hold-down adhesive strips there is no subsequent removal thereof required which inadvertently caused paint removal and other surface marring.

  • Patent number: 5467522
Abstract: Safety glass, known to consist of glass panels having an interposed plastic ply to minimize shattering, is converted by the within method into an auto windshield having a wiper deicing function by the application of resistive conductive coatings forming a circuit along the glass panel bottom edges insulated by the plastic ply, which circuit is heat-generating when connected to the auto battery and thus effective to deice the wiper which in an at-rest position is near enough to the heat source to benefit therefrom for the purposes intended.

  • Patent number: 5457913
Abstract: An auto ventilation side window in a recessed opening to minimize adverse aerodynamic wind resistance, in which the flange periphery which bounds the recess is advantageously used also as a flexturing support for an opening pivotal traverse of the window, the angle of the traverse being confined to an extent that does not result in a rupturing of the construction material of the window-supporting flange.

  • Patent number: 5429858
Abstract: A corrugated paper retainer and adjustable spacer for adhesively applying a glass panel to a support surface, especially an automotive body panel defining a window opening, which includes a corrugated paper retainer assembly composed of a top ply having an adhesive-covered top surface, a bottom ply having an adhesive-covered bottom surface, and a crushable corrugated intermediate ply sandwiched and bonded between the top and bottom plies. The bottom ply is bondable to the support surface via the adhesive covered bottom surface thereof and the top surface is bondable to the glass panel via the adhesive bonded top surface thereof. The retainer assembly is variably compressible via its crushable corrugated ply to adjust the spaced distance of the glass panel with respect to the support surface. A method of installing a glass panel is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 5410294
Abstract: Mandated by law in most states is an original equipment manufacture (OEM) auto rear window brake-operated light which displays itself as a steady light signal when the brake is operated. This same light is now given a flashing mode to indicate the "cruise control" is on so that an approaching motorist is encouraged to make a safe lane change rather than to "tailgate".

  • Patent number: 5163731
Abstract: A vehicle rear window reveal molding provided with a rearwardly facing groove serving as a repository for reflective material in which the overhang of an upper leg of the groove shelters the reflective material against ultraviolet deterioration but allows clear visibility thereof in its activated state when it emits light in response to ground level light of headlights from approaching vehicles impinging on the reflective material.

  • Patent number: 5150943
Abstract: A porthole van window to increase available daylight in which the window is initially adhesively attached to a first molding seated in the circular window opening and has a second molding attached to its peripheral edge, beneath which a curable sealant is deposited for firmly bonding the window to the side panel of the van.

  • Patent number: 4997396
Abstract: A vehicle, preferably "hatchback", rear window defroster electrical connector using an adhesively secured threaded post to receive thereon a circular electrical element which is pressed into an electrical connection by a nut against the defroster conductive deposit on the rear window, thereby avoiding the use of solder which deteriorates upon exposure to weather elements occasioned by the frequent opening of the hatchback rear window door or panel.

  • Patent number: 4986594
Abstract: In a window pane mounting arrangement, there is proposed an improved window moulding which can be neatly fitted to a clearance defined between the edge of the window pane and the peripheral flange of the window opening. The window moulding comprises an elongate band portion adapted to cover the clearance and a leg portion depending from the inboard surface of the band portion and disposed in the clearance. The improvement consists of openings in the leg portion to permit the flow of sealant therethrough to relieve pressure in the sealant while it cures, which pressure, if not relieved, would lift or otherwise adversely effect the positioning of the moulding.

  • Patent number: 4951907
Abstract: An automotive window assembly of the type having a stationary window assembly insertable onto a peripheral flange of a rabbet flanged window aperture which is formed in an automotive vehicle body. The window assembly is designed to be adhesively secured to the automobile body after being mounted on the peripheral flange. The window assembly includes a plurality of cup-shaped retention elements which have inner sides fixedly secured to the inner pierpheral surface of the window assembly. Each retention element has a resilient outer side, and a generally perpendicular, outwardly extending stem joined at one end thereof to the resilient outer side of each of the plurality of retention elements. The stem is inwardly deflectable about the joint formed at the one end thereof and the resilient outer side of the cup-shaped retention element.

  • Patent number: 4805363
Abstract: An apparatus for retaining a window panel on an outer surface of a flanged body panel of an automotive vehicle body is to be used with a curable adhesive. The apparatus utilizes a decorative trim portion adapted to bridge the space between the window panel and the flanged body panel while overlying both the outer surface of the window panel and outer metal frame of the vehicle body. The decorative trim includes a resiliently yieldable stem extruded integrally therewith and extending generally perpendicularly therefrom for insertion into the space between the window panel and the body panel. The stem includes extensions which extend generally radially outwardly therefrom and are adapted to project into the curable adhesive, thereby attaching the decorative trim portion to the vehicle body. A flange on the flanged body portion includes a plurality of holes communicating with the space between the window and the body. A plurality of retaining elements are attached to the inner surface of the flange.

Abstract: A glass panel carrier, especially intended for automobile windshields includes a pair of generally parallel, laterally spaced-apart support rails, and at least one transverse support member disposed in between and attached to the rails. A multiplicity of fittings each having at least one branch leg, are slidably supported in fixed positions on the rails and are mounted with the branch legs positioned generally perpendicular to the rails, the fittings being configured to prevent any axial rotation thereof. A multiplicity of posts are provided, each of which is associated with one of the T-shaped fittings, with the post releasably engaging the branch leg of the associated fitting. The posts in adjacent fittings on each rail and opposing fittings on the opposite rail cooperate in holding glass panels therebetween during transport and/or storage thereof.
