  • Publication number: 20190169955
Abstract: An apparatus and method for preparing a casing of a subterranean well and injecting a sealing mixture therein. The apparatus comprises an elongate body extending between top and bottom ends connectable to a wireline at the top and having a plurality of nozzles extending therethrough proximate to the bottom. A plurality of scrapers within the body each have a first retracted position and a second radially extended position engageable with the casing. A cavity is operable to contain the sealing mixture and a piston is movable therein so to eject the sealing mixture through the nozzles. The method comprises positioning the body in the well at a location to be sealed, extending the scrapers to engage with the casing, displacing the body so to scrape against the casing and retracting the scrapers. The piston is displaced so to eject the sealing mixture through the nozzles.

  • Patent number: 10236657
Abstract: A device and method for tuning a ring resonator using self-heating stabilization is provided. A light source is controlled to produce an optical signal, input to an optical ring resonator, at a power where self-heating shifts a resonance wavelength of the optical ring resonator by at least 10 picometers, the self-heating comprising absorption in the optical ring resonator of optical power from a received optical signal. Prior to using the optical ring resonator at least one of modulate and filter the optical signal at the optical ring resonator, a heater of the optical ring resonator is controlled to an operating temperature at which the resonance wavelength of the optical ring resonator is greater than a respective wavelength of the optical signal.

  • Publication number: 20180335210
Abstract: A treatment apparatus for treating an effluent gas comprising:includes a combustion chamber; a burner; an inlet for receiving secondary combustion air; an exhaust gas outlet for outputting exhaust gases from the combustion chamber; and a heat exchanger. The heat exchanger is configured to exchange heat between a first fluid and a second fluid flowing through respective first and second fluid flow paths. The first fluid flow path is connected to the inlet such that the secondary combustion air flows from the inlet into the first fluid flow path and the second fluid flow path is connected to the outlet such that the exhaust gases received at the outlet flow into the second fluid flow path. The heat exchanger comprises a fluid flow communication path for providing a path for flow of a portion of the exhaust gases from the second fluid into the first fluid; and at least one inlet aperture for inputting the first fluid to the combustion chamber.

  • Publication number: 20180311607
Abstract: The abatement apparatus includes a porous element at least partially defining a treatment chamber and through which treatment materials pass for introduction into the treatment chamber for treatment of an effluent gas stream; and an infra-red heating device operable to emit infra-red energy to heat the porous element which heats the treatment materials as they pass through the porous element into the treatment chamber. In this way, infra-red energy, rather than combustion, can be used to raise the temperature within the treatment chamber in order to treat the effluent gas stream. This allows the apparatus to be used in environments where no fuel gas exists or where the provision of fuel gas is considered undesirable. Also, heating the treatment materials as they pass through the porous sleeve, rather than simply using radiant heat to heat the treatment chamber enables significantly more energy to be imparted into the treatment materials.

  • Publication number: 20180214812
Abstract: Venturi Scrubbers are used to separate particulate from a large range of fluids. Many provide additional liquid and/or gas to drive the fluid and aid in the removal of particulate. The present invention provides a liquid ring pump through which the fluid to be treated is first passed and then exhausted, with additional work fluid to a Venturi scrubber such that the particulate can be separated from the exhaust fluid.

  • Publication number: 20180194314
Abstract: An impact detection system is disclosed for detecting and identifying an object colliding with a vehicle. The impact detection system comprises a sensor arrangement arranged to measure a characteristic of an impact of the object against the vehicle, a trigger determiner associated with the sensor arrangement for determining whether the characteristic of the 5 impact is greater than a predefined threshold value, and an image capturing device arranged to capture an image of the object. The system is arranged to automatically make the captured image available for inspection in response to the trigger determiner determining that the characteristic of the impact is greater than the predefined threshold value so that the object in the image can be identified substantially in real-time.

  • Patent number: 9946027
Abstract: A device and method for post-fabrication trimming of an optical ring resonator using a dopant-based heater is provided. An optical ring resonator at the device can be heated using heaters in an optical slab from which the optical ring resonator extends, the heater including a non-uniform doping profile.
