  • Publication number: 20110276315
Abstract: Systems, methods, and computer program products for identifying under-defined geometries due to singular constraint schemes. A method includes receiving a CAD model having a plurality of geometries and determining the degrees of freedom for each of the geometries. The method includes identifying a number of constraints on each of the geometries and identifying any of the geometries that are under-defined and any of the geometries that are well-defined. The method includes identifying any of the under-defined geometries that are under-defined due to singular (UDS) and storing a UDS indicator for each of the geometries identified as UDS. The method can include identifying geometries computed from these UDS geometries (CFS) and storing a CFS indicator for each of the geometries identified as CFS.

  • Publication number: 20110013864
Abstract: The sensor includes an optical waveguide defined in a light-transmitting medium. The waveguide includes a sensing portion and an non-sensing portion. The light-transmitting medium included in the sensing portion has defects that provide the light-transmitting medium with a deep band gap level between a valence band of the light-transmitting medium and a conduction band of the light-transmitting medium. The deep band gap level is configured such that the waveguide guiding light signals through the light-transmitting medium in the sensing portion causes free carriers to be generated in the light-transmitting medium. A detector is configured to detect the free carriers in the sensing region of the waveguide.

  • Publication number: 20100101414
Abstract: A method is described for treating a gas stream containing a flammable gas, such as hydrogen or a hydrocarbon gas. The gas stream is conveyed to a liquid ring pump (18), to which a gaseous oxidant and water are supplied. The water and the gas stream are discharged from the pump (18), with the discharged gas stream being subsequently separated from the liquid, and conveyed to a pyrolysis device (42) for pyrolysing the flammable gas and the oxidant. Any particulates and acidic species within the gas stream are retained by the water within the liquid ring pump to inhibit corrosion or blockage of the pyrolysis device (42). A filter or other device (40) may be provided to remove water from the gas stream before it enters the pyrolysis device (42).

  • Patent number: 7386207
Abstract: An integrated optical waveguide (1) having an in-line light sensor (2) integrally formed therewith for tapping off a small proportion of the signal transmitted along the waveguide (1). A first part (1A) of the waveguide leads to a photodiode portion (2) and a second part (1B) of the waveguide leads away from the photodiode portion (2), the photodiode portion (2) comprising one or more regions (14) of light absorbing material within the waveguide (1) arranged to absorb a minor proportion of light transmitted along the waveguide (1) and thereby to generate free charge carriers within the waveguide (1). Deep band gap levels (21) are introduced into photodiode portion by ion implantation to enable it to absorb selected wavelengths. The free charge carriers are detected by a p-i-n diode formed across the waveguide (1). Wavelength selective reflectors (11, 12) may be provided either side of the photodiode portion (2) so light passes repeatedly through the photodiode portion (2).

  • Publication number: 20070063359
Abstract: A system for introducing air into a slurry in a flue gas desulphurization process includes a stationary lance and an impeller. The lance include an outlet portion and a vane assembly. The outlet directs air away from the impeller. The vane assembly may produce turbulence and may convert a portion of the swirling flow from the impeller into longitudinal flow.

  • Patent number: 6798039
Abstract: Integrated circuit inductors achieve high quality factors by replacing a single conductive strand having a first cross-sectional area with a plurality of conductive strands having a combined second cross-sectional area that is smaller than the first cross-sectional area and a combined periphery that is greater than a periphery of the single conductive strand. The dimensions of the plurality of the conductive strands are greater than a skin depth at a desired operating frequency. This results in slightly higher dc resistance, but significantly lower ac resistance. The conductive strands are electrically coupled in parallel and extend side-by-side across an integrated circuit substrate. These strands include a plurality of crossing strand segments that enable the respective strand to be repeatedly transposed from one side of the plurality of strands to another side of the plurality of strands without electrical interruption.

  • Patent number: 4267229
Abstract: A colored acrylic sheet having an attractive 3-dimensional depth of color resulting from the use of a mixture of pigments or a pigment and a dye wherein an inorganic pigment, distributed non-uniformly throughout the sheet and a colorant is distributed uniformly through the sheet, the particles of non-uniformly distributed pigment being concentrated preferentially towards one surface of the sheet and are visible through the opposite surface of the sheet which is preferably substantially free from the non-uniformly distributed pigment. The attractive appearance is further enhanced by shaping the sheet and the sheet is particularly suitable for forming articles of sanitaryware.
