  • Publication number: 20090230138
Abstract: A package and method of use for packaging temperature sensitive payloads during transport through environments having extreme temperatures. The package includes a segmented, flexible panel containing a plurality of phase change material segments. A pair of such panels may be used, with each panel being separately thermally preconditioned as a function of anticipated ambient temperature during transport. The panels may be formed by retaining phase change material segments between a pair of flexible sheets.

  • Publication number: 20090039088
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a transport package which efficiently maintains payload temperature within a predetermined temperature range during delivery through regions having ambient temperatures outside the desired range. The transport package is used for transporting temperature sensitive materials and thermally protecting the materials from cold and hot ambient temperatures in a manner that does not require a power source or other mechanical devices. Aspects of the invention relate to a temperature maintaining packaging system having an outer container, thermal insulation materials and two or more different phase change materials.

  • Publication number: 20080112399
Abstract: Virtual dedicated voice connections between parties 18, 19 to a packet switched system can be created by reserving capacity for such connections in the packet switched system. The capacity reservable by any one party is limited, to prevent oversubscription of resources in the packet switched. The system incorporates a call admission control processor 12, 17 for controlling access to the packet switched call routing system such that a voice call attempt is successful only if capacity for such a dedicated connection has previously been reserved. The capacity reserved for the virtual connections is made available for use by other traffic when not required for voice calls.

  • Patent number: 5514488
Abstract: An Li/LiMn.sub.2 O.sub.4 secondary cell employing a SWING system (i.e., of the "rocking chair cell" type) includes a positive electrode formed as a metal gauze-reinforced, rolled electrode, and a negative electrode formed by impregnating a nickel foam with a paste of Li-intercalating graphite. Such electrodes are from 3 to 4 times thicker than the thin-film electrodes fabricated with prior, knife-coating techniques and employed in wound cells, and are therefore particularly suitable for constructing prismatic cells. By prerolling the as yet empty nickel foam to specific thicknesses, the capacity per unit area of the negative electrode can be tailored to that of the positive, rolled electrode. By rerolling the impregnated nickel foam, optimal energy density and electrode capacity is achieved, at a porosity of from 50 to 60%.

  • Patent number: 5021306
Abstract: A spiral-wound galvanic cell is based upon a lithium system with a nonaqueous electrolyte, and includes a positive electrode, the carrier of which is clamped within the slit of a simple metal splint which serves as the winding mandrel and current collector. Contact with the metal splint is established by a leaf spring associated with the housing cover, which then serves as the positive terminal post for the cell. A high specific contact pressure is developed at this connection by providing the leaf spring with a punched hole which rests on thicker top portions of the metal splint. A small metal plate pressed through the lithium electrode and its separator establishes electrical contact between the lithium electrode and the interior wall of the housing vessel, which then serves as the negative cell pole.

  • Patent number: 4284502
Abstract: An apparatus for treating uremic patients by means of ultrafiltration, in which the withdrawn blood is separated by means of a hemofilter into plasma water and residual blood and the plasma water is exchanged in an exchange device. The latter comprises two chambers I and II, separated from one another by a flexible or movable partition, of which chamber I is filled with fluid and can additionally receive the plasma water, and chamber II contains substitution solution. By exerting pressure in the partition, a suction is caused in chamber I and a pressure in chamber II, so that chamber I can take up the plasma water, while the same volume of substitution solution is released from chamber II.
