  • Publication number: 20080066932
Abstract: A central hub includes a plate and a sleeve attached to the plate and adapted to receive a sprinkler head. The sleeve may be a telescoping sleeve. By providing a central hub with the plate and sleeve, the central hub provides increased stability and versatility to the sprinkler head. The plate provides additional stability and support to the sleeve, and thus the sprinkler head, rendering the combination better able to operate effectively when high fluid pressures are utilized. The central hub is generally attached to a support structure by some mechanism, such as a leg. The addition of the plate adds versatility by increasing the number and variety of legs that can be used to attach the central hub to the support structure.

  • Publication number: 20070088248
Abstract: The invention provides devices for the disruption of one or more layers of skin and methods of their use to administer therapeutic agents, e.g., antigens or drugs. The devices are designed to disrupt a defined area of skin. The defined area can approximate the area that a patch or other suitable vehicle for therapeutic agent, e.g., drug or vaccine, delivery is designed to contact. Exemplary devices employ a mask to define the area to be disrupted. Other devices disrupt a defined area by rotating in place. For devices that employ a mask that is secured to the skin, the invention provides methods of disrupting the stratum corneum by first securing the mask to the skin and then disrupting the skin. For rotating devices, the disrupting member is simply placed against the skin and actuated to effect disruption.

  • Publication number: 20070066831
Abstract: The invention provides a high-yield process for the preparation of letrozole having a high purity, without the need for removal of the 4-[1-(1,3,4-triazolyl)methyl]benzonitrile impurity at the intermediate stage. The invention also provides a process for the synthesis of letrozole in which formation of the impurity 4-[1-(1,3,4-triazolyl)methyl]benzonitrile during the first stage is minimized. In the process, a 4-(halomethyl)benzonitrile is reacted with a salt of 1H-1,2,4-triazole, reducing the formation of the impurity. Preferably, the preparation is conducted as a one-pot process.

  • Patent number: 7173711
Abstract: Apparatus for and a method of rotating microscopic objects uses a beam of electromagnetic radiation. A microscopic, non-circularly symmetric distribution of electro-magnetic radiation is projected on to a region containing an object to be rotated so as to cause photons in the beam to refract around the objects. Rotating means then rotate that distribution and so rotate the objects. The distribution may be formed on the interference pattern between a beam having a Laguerre-Gaussian wave fronts and either a plane wave or a further Laguerre-Gaussian beam of opposite helicity.

  • Publication number: 20050284644
Abstract: A fire suppression sprinkler system, and method for installing a sprinkler system in new and existing buildings. The system includes a manifold that supplies fire suppression fluid to a set of wall-mounted sprinkler heads via flexible sprinkler head conduits through an unobstructed path. The installation and retrofit methods include determining the location of the sprinkler head, installing the manifold, making sure that there is an unobstructed path between the manifold and the sprinkler head location, running the conduit through the path by snaking it where necessary through the wall to which the sprinkler head is mounted, connecting the conduit to the manifold and sprinkler head, and then mounting the sprinkler head.

  • Publication number: 20050194153
Abstract: The invention features an apparatus and method for positioning and supporting a sprinkler head in a ceiling, floor, or wall. In one aspect of the invention, a sprinkler head may be received by a sleeve extending through a broad surface of the plate. The plate may be configured to be removably attached to a support structure in the ceiling, floor, or wall and having an exterior surface exposed to the room or the plate may be attached to a decorative panel which is configured to be removably attached to a support structure in the ceiling, floor, or wall and having an exterior surface exposed to the room. • Patent number: 5688925
Abstract: Demethylepipodophyllotoxin-.beta.-glucosides are prepared by allowing demethylepipodophyllotoxin to react with a 2,3-di-O-ester of a 1-O-trialkylsilyl-4,6-O-alkylidene-.beta.-D-glucose derivative in the presence of a Lewis acid. The 4,6-O-alkylidene group can be alkylidene, arylalkylidene, or heteroarylalkylidene and the 2,3-ester can be lower alkanoyl or haloacetyl. In a typical embodiment, demethylepipodophyllotoxin is allowed to react with 4,6-O-ethylidene-2,3-di-O-acetyl-1-O-trimethylsilyl-.beta.-D-glucose in the presence of boron trifluoride etherate to yield etoposide 2",3"-diacetate.
