  • Patent number: 7107886
Abstract: A disc component for a gas turbine engine is produced from a workpiece by a sequence of machining operations. During the machining operations, the workpiece is supported by a fixture engaging support surfaces. The workpiece remains secured to the fixture throughout the sequence of machining operations so that these operations can be conducted on both faces of a disc portion of the workpiece without removing the workpiece from the fixture. The machining operations are conducted alternately on the opposite faces in order to allow residual stresses in the workpiece to dissipate in a controlled manner.

  • Patent number: 7063189
Abstract: A lift system for and method of controlling a lift car. The car providing service to a number of separate stations to enable a person or an article waiting in a predetermined region outside the lift car to enter or leave the lift car. The method including the steps of providing the lift car a scanning device directed outwardly from the lift car. Each of the stations having an independent scanning extension. When the lift car arrives at one of the stations equipped with a scanning device, the scanning device and the scanning extension are juxtaposed to form an operable combination. Scanning the predetermined region with the operable combination to produce an output signal representing a state of the predetermined region, such as whether the region is occupied or not. Using the signal or a function of the signal to regulate subsequent operation of the lift car.

  • Publication number: 20040172537
Abstract: A method of securely tracking an item using an internet web site for a user to verify that the item is genuine, comprises entering a code to obtain secure access to the web site; selecting the item from a list on the web site; determining whether the code is authentic; allowing modification of tracking data if the code is determined to be authentic; and sending an alert as to a fraud potential if the code is determined to be not authentic.

  • Publication number: 20040154873
Abstract: A method of sensory control of a lift car located in an lift shaft which serves to define a number of separate stations between which the car can be driven and at each of which stations the car can be caused to stop to enable a person or an article to enter or leave the car characterised by the steps of: providing for the car a scanning device; providing at each of at least two or more of the stations an independent scanning extension means; providing that on, or following, the arrival of the car at one of the stations equipped with an scanning extension means the scanning device and the scanning extension means at the station are juxtaposed, or otherwise linked, to form an operable combination; scanning by means of the operable combination a predetermined region associated with the shaft at the station so as to provide as an output a signal representing a state of the predetermined region, such as whether it is occupied or not, and using the signal or a function thereof, in the event the signal or a function

  • Patent number: 6589015
Abstract: A centrifugal compressor includes an impeller and a diffuser. The impeller has an inner integral hub with vanes thereon, is adapted to rotate within an outer shroud about a central longitudinal axis, and has a defined hub-to-shroud distribution of fluid exit angles. The diffuser, downstream from the impeller, comprises a plurality of circumferentially spaced discrete passages at least partially defining fluid paths through the diffuser, and angled such that adjacent discrete passages intersect each other to form an annular semi-vaneless diffuser inlet space. The discrete passages downstream of the semi-vaneless space each have an inlet therefrom and an outlet with a greater cross-sectional area than the inlet. The intersection of the annular semi-vaneless space and each discrete passage defines a leading edge thereof.

  • Patent number: 6148275
Abstract: An improved system or and method of connecting a hardware modeling element to the pin electronics circuitry of a hardware modeling system, with the improved system having circuitry and structures that will allow it to be connected to a hardware modeling system that is powered, circuitry to indicate to the pin electronics circuitry that the improved system is connected to it, circuitry to identify the hardware modeling element supported by the improved system to the hardware modeling system, circuitry to indicate to the hardware modeling system when the hardware modeling element is initialized so evaluation of it by the hardware modeling system can commence, circuitry to generate selectable supply voltages for the powering the hardware modeling element, and a hardware modeling element connector that will allow the connection of a family of hardware modeling elements to the same connector without the need to change the connector.
