  • Patent number: 11917534
Abstract: During PDN connection establishment in the EPC, a UE and a session management entity (SME) (e.g., PGW-C+SMF) exchange information. In case the SME supports more than one S-NSSAI, before the SME provides an S-NSSAI to the UE, the SME should check such that the selected S-NSSAI is among the UE's subscribed S-NSSAIs by retrieving the Subscribed S-NSSAI from a UDM using, for example, the Nudm_SDM_Get service operation.

  • Patent number: 11864149
Abstract: This disclosure combines the Attach and Tracking Area Update procedures into one new mobility procedure: the Registration procedure. One advantage of the proposed Registration procedure is that, if the new SHF is unable to obtain UE data from the old SHF the new SHF will nevertheless register the UE so that the UE does not have to perform another registration procedure (e.g., an Attach procedure).

  • Publication number: 20220345941
Abstract: A method implemented by a Policy Control Function (PCF) of a Core Network (CN) node in a communications network includes receiving a request message from an Access and Mobility management Function (AMF). The request message includes a requested Data Network Name (DNN) designated by a wireless terminal in a Protocol Data Unit (PDU) session establishment request to the AMF. Responsive to the request message and to session-specific information, a selected DNN and a Session Management Function (SMF) index is determined. Each of one or more SMFs are registered with a Network Repository Function (NRF) of the CN node or a different CN node according to a corresponding SMF profile. The selected DNN and the SMF index are sent to the AMF to facilitate selection of one of the one or more SMFs via the NRF for establishment of the PDU session between the wireless terminal and the selected SMF.

  • Publication number: 20220303935
Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed herein for Access and Mobility Function (AMF) re-allocation. In one embodiment, a method for AMF re-allocation includes, at an initial AMF, receiving a registration request for a User Equipment (UE) from a Radio Access Network (RAN), deciding to initiate an AMF re-allocation procedure, sending the registration request to the RAN for delivery to a target AMF for the AMF re-allocation procedure, and sending a UE security context of the UE to another Network Function (NF). The method further includes, at the target AMF, receiving a message from the RAN wherein the message includes the registration request from the UE, obtaining the UE security context of the UE from the other NF, and performing protected NAS signaling related to a registration procedure for the UE using the UE security context of the UE.

  • Publication number: 20220124869
Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for service request triggered fallback for an emergency service in a cellular communications system. Embodiments of a method performed by a wireless device for redirecting from a first wireless communication system to a second wireless communication system after having performed a service request in the first wireless communication system for an emergency call are also disclosed. In some embodiments, the method comprises transmitting a connection request message to a base station in the second wireless communication system as part of a connection establishment procedure whereby the wireless device establishes a connection to the second wireless communication system, the connection request message comprising an indication that a cause of connection establishment is an emergency. In this manner, the base station can provide emergency treatment for the connection request. Corresponding embodiments of a wireless device are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 11297551
Abstract: The embodiments herein relate to a method performed by an AMF (106) for handling handover. The AMF (106) receives one of: a handover required message and a first request message. The handover required message is received from an S-RAN (104s) and the first request message is received from another AMF (106) in response to the handover required message. The AMF (106) sends to a SMF (108), a set of one or more first request messages and activates a timer. The AMF (106) determines whether at least one of the following is true: a certain amount of time has elapsed since the timer was activated and the AMF (106) has received a first PDU response message for each one of the first PDU request messages. The AMF (106) transmits a handover request message to a T-RAN (104t) as a result of determining that at least one of the conditions is true.
