  • Publication number: 20140092871
Abstract: The invention performs long term evolution (LTE) tracking area updates (TAUs), and tracking area code (TAC) and public land mobile network identification (PLMN-ID) assisted optimized wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) cell reselection. An evolved Node-B broadcasts system information including at least one system information block (SIB) based at least in part on an enhanced universal terrestrial radio access network (E-UTRAN) parameter response message sent by an evolved packet core (EPC) network. A WTRU generates a new TAC, which represents a tracking area identification (TA-ID) of a new cell, based on the system information, and compares the new TAC to an existing TAC, which represents a TA-ID of a previous cell. The WTRU transmits to the EPC network a TAU request message including the TA-ID of the new cell. The EPC network sends either a TAU accept message or a TAU reject message to the WTRU.

  • Publication number: 20140086177
Abstract: Systems, methods, and instrumentalities are disclosed such that a WTRU may obtain network operator agnostic wireless access for a service. The WTRU may receive a system information (SI) broadcast from a radio access network (RAN) node. The SI broadcast may indicate that an operator of the RAN node supports service-based network access. The WTRU may send a service request to a virtual service provider to request the service. The WTRU may receive a service response from the virtual service provider. The WTRU may receive a service response from the virtual service provider, the service response indicating a mobile network operator (MNO) to use for obtaining the service and subscription information for accessing the MNO, wherein the MNO is different than the operator of the RAN node. The WTRU may access the MNO to obtain the service.

  • Publication number: 20140016562
Abstract: A method and apparatus are described for providing non-packet switched service to a target radio access technology (RAT) network. A circuit switched (CS) service notification message is received by a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU). If the WTRU has been allocated a valid temporary mobile subscriber identity (TMSI), a paging response message including the valid TMSI is transmitted after an inter-system change is performed from a source RAT network to a target RAT network. The CS service notification message is for terminating a CS call request. The source RAT network may be a long term evolution (LTE) network, and the target RAT network may be a third generation partnership project (3GPP) network. Alternatively, if the WTRU has not been allocated a valid TMSI, a paging response message including an international mobile subscriber identity (IMSI) that identifies the WTRU is transmitted after the inter-system change.

  • Publication number: 20130303206
Abstract: Systems, methods, and instrumentalities are provided to determine routing associated with a short message. A SMS-SC may send a first routing request to a home subscriber server (HSS). The first routing request may be associated with the short message. The SMS-SC may receive a first routing reply. The first routing reply may include one of an indication that the short message is associated with a service capability server (SCS) or a first control plane routing associated with the short message. The SMS-SC may send the short message to an SCS serving node. The first routing reply may include the indication that the short message is associated with a service capability server (SCS). The SMS-SC may send a second routing request to a SCS subscription database. The SMS-SC may receive a second routing reply from the SCS subscription database, which may indicate a second control plane routing for the short message.

  • Publication number: 20130303203
Abstract: Embodiments contemplate paging and system information broadcast handling for multi-SIM WTRUs using mobile networks to access resources and/or services. Embodiments also contemplate paging and system information broadcast handling for multi-SIM WTRUs and/or non-SIM WTRUs using mobile networks to access virtualized resources and/or services. Embodiments contemplate that a WTRU may determine to monitor a plurality of mobile networks. Paging occasions to monitor at least one of the mobile networks may be based on a common WTRU ID. The WTRU ID may be provided by a node supporting access to the virtualized resources or services. Paging occasions for a first network may be determined by a second network based on paging related parameters and other information of the first communication network. A change in system information of a first network may be signaled to a second network for indication to a WTRU.

  • Publication number: 20130303088
Abstract: Methods and systems may enable the setup and configuration of proximity services between wireless transmit/receive units (WTRUs) over different sharing paths including via a direct air interface, a radio access network (RAN) or one or more network nodes. Mobility management entities (MMEs) may exchange messages to initiate, modify or terminate a proximity service session between WTRUs, and may negotiate data paths for proximity services with or without the assistance of WTRUs. WTRU-to-WTRU control plane messages may be exchanged between WTRUs with limited involvement from other network entities and may avoid the setup of resources for data plane communications. Mobility management entities (MMEs) may exchange messages to initiate, modify or terminate a proximity service session between WTRUs, and may negotiate data paths for proximity services with or without the assistance of WTRUs.

  • Publication number: 20130301501
Abstract: Current wireless networks do not allow machine type communication (MTC) devices to have long discontinuous reception (DRX) cycles or sleep lengths. A long DRX cycle may allow MTC systems and devices to operate with much longer DRX/Sleep cycles/periods. This may facilitate the MTC operations for infrequent system access or infrequent system reaching (e.g. paged once in a week) with no or low mobility and may allow MTC devices to sleep for a long time with low power consumption.

  • Publication number: 20130288682
Abstract: A method for assigning a tracking area (TA) is disclosed. A mobility state of a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) is determined and the TA is assigned based on the determined mobility state. Also disclosed is a method for accessing a closed subscriber group (CSG) TA. A CSG TA identifier is received at a WTRU and is stored. A CSG TA broadcast is received and the broadcast CSG TA is accessed if an identifier of the broadcast CSG TA matches the stored CSG TA identifier. Also disclosed is a method for changing a mobility state of a WTRU. A current mobility state of the WTRU is determined and a predetermined metric of the WTRU is examined. The predetermined metric is evaluated to determine if the metric has crossed a threshold and the mobility state is changed based on the evaluated metric.

  • Patent number: 8537857
Abstract: A method for processing enhanced dedicated channel (E-DCH) data in a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) includes sending two messages. A first message is sent from a physical layer to a medium access control (MAC) layer, and triggers MAC layer processing of E-DCH data. A second message is sent from the MAC layer to the physical layer, and enables the physical layer to compute control parameters for physical layer processing of the E-DCH data before the MAC layer processing of the E-DCH data is completed.
