  • Patent number: 10231216
Abstract: Methods and apparatus are described for transmitting and receiving data by a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) over the control plane. The methods may receive data without the use of an Internet Protocol (IP) address. In an example method, a WTRU may enter an evolved packet system (EPS) mobility management (EMM)-registered control plane only (CPO) state after receiving an attach accepted message for CPO operation, and enter an EMM-deregistered state after receiving a detach message, a tracking area update (TAU) reject message or an attach reject message. In another method, a WTRU may switch between operational modes that use an IP address and a user plane to transmit and receive data, and the CPO mode.

  • Publication number: 20180302946
Abstract: Current wireless networks do not allow machine type communication (MTC) devices to have long discontinuous reception (DRX) cycles or sleep lengths. A long DRX cycle may allow MTC systems and devices to operate with much longer DRX/Sleep cycles/periods. This may facilitate the MTC operations for infrequent system access or infrequent system reaching (e.g. paged once in a week) with no or low mobility and may allow MTC devices to sleep for a long time with low power consumption.

  • Patent number: 10070332
Abstract: A method and apparatus for measurement reporting and event-triggered periodic measurement reporting in an evolved universal terrestrial radio access network (E-UTRAN) are disclosed. A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) monitors cell-specific reference signals from a serving cell and neighbor cells to detect a reporting event defined for the E-UTRAN. Once a reporting event is detected, the WTRU sends a measurement report to the network. The measurement quantity may be a reference signal received quality (RSRQ). After detection of the reporting event, the WTRU may send event-triggered measurement reports periodically. The WTRU may send a scheduling request to the network for the event-triggered periodic measurement reports. The WTRU may send a termination indication if the event-triggered periodic measurement reports are terminated before a configured number of times. The WTRU may send an extension request if a specified number of periodic reporting has been sent but more reports still need to be sent.

  • Patent number: 10009939
Abstract: A method and apparatus are described for providing non-packet switched service to a target radio access technology (RAT) network. A circuit switched (CS) service notification message is received by a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU). If the WTRU has been allocated a valid temporary mobile subscriber identity (TMSI), a paging response message including the valid TMSI is transmitted after an inter-system change is performed from a source RAT network to a target RAT network. The CS service notification message is for terminating a CS call request. The source RAT network may be a long term evolution (LTE) network, and the target RAT network may be a third generation partnership project (3GPP) network. Alternatively, if the WTRU has not been allocated a valid TMSI, a paging response message including an international mobile subscriber identity (IMSI) that identifies the WTRU is transmitted after the inter-system change.

  • Publication number: 20180098261
Abstract: The invention performs long term evolution (LTE) tracking area updates (TAUs), and tracking area code (TAC) and public land mobile network identification (PLMN-ID) assisted optimized wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) cell reselection. An evolved Node-B broadcasts system information including at least one system information block (SIB) based at least in part on an enhanced universal terrestrial radio access network (E-UTRAN) parameter response message sent by an evolved packet core (EPC) network. A WTRU generates a new TAC, which represents a tracking area identification (TA-ID) of a new cell, based on the system information, and compares the new TAC to an existing TAC, which represents a TA-ID of a previous cell. The WTRU transmits to the EPC network a TAU request message including the TA-ID of the new cell. The EPC network sends either a TAU accept message or a TAU reject message to the WTRU.
