  • Patent number: 4015840
Abstract: Positioned adjacent to the delivery end of a device for folding sheets delivered from a printing press is a sheet pick up device to intercept a sheet for test purposes. The mechanism to intercept the sheet includes a receiving roller carrying a guide belt which is moved into the delivery path and then transfers the sheet to a second guide belt for holding the test sheet between the two guide belts for delivery to a special delivery means where the sheet can be inspected. The roller is supported on a movable arm which is synchronized with the delivery belt of the folding apparatus, and the guide belts are arranged to move at a speed faster than the delivery belts. The removal of a sheet for test purposes does not interfere with the delivery of the other sheets and operations do not have to be stopped to test a sheet.

  • Patent number: 4000694
Abstract: An ink fountain for a printing press in which the fountain blade extends at an angle to the surface of the fountain roller, with adjusting pins engaging the free edge of the blade at spaced points to determine the thickness of the ink film. Each pin has a lever extending transversely of the pin at its outer end, the lever being fulcrumed with respect to the frame and having first and second relatively spaced points of engagement. The first point of engagement presses against the outer end of the pin and the second point of engagement bears against a manually rotatable key which is threaded into the frame, each pin having a return spring for urging the pin outwardly with respect to the frame so that when the key is rotated, the lever rocks about its fulcrum to advance the pin inwardly toward the blade with positive action against the restoring force of the spring.

  • Patent number: 3966871
Abstract: To inspect an internal zone of a tubular cavity having an open end, for example, a zone of possible damage in a heat-exchanger tube, an elastically hardenable casting plastic is transported to the zone and cast against the surface embraced by the internal zone, and after hardening to an elastic casting, is pulled from the zone for inspection outside of the open end of the cavity. Being elastic, the casting is not permanently deformed when pulled from the zone, the casting providing an undistorted physical image of the surface within the zone, permitting a determination of possible damage including pitting, cracks and the like.
