  • Patent number: 7274293
Abstract: A cable lock device includes a housing, a tampering subsystem, and a cable having a first end and a second end. The first end is attached to the housing and is electrically connected to the tampering subsystem and the second end is selectively attached to the housing. In addition, a switch is disposed within the housing and is electrically connected to the tampering subsystem. The switch is movable between an open state and a closed state to indicate when the second end is attached to the housing. The tampering subsystem includes control circuitry that monitors the position of the switch and the status of the cable to detect removal of the second end from the housing and/or severance of the cable. The control circuitry relays status information of the cable lock device to a control unit via a transmitter to alert a property owner of a security breach.

  • Patent number: 7000988
Abstract: A chair is operable between a seating position and a rise-assist position. The chair comprises a base; first and second legs; a seat pivotally connected to the first and second legs; and a back pivotally connected to the seat. The chair further comprises first and second members pivotally connected at a first end to the legs, and pivotally connected at a second end to the back. At least portions of the legs, first and second members, back and seat form first and second four-bar linkages, respectively. At least one biasing member is pivotally connected at a first end to one of the base and at least one of the legs and pivotally connected at a second end to at least one of the four-bar linkages. The at least one biasing member operates to assist movement of the chair between the seating position and the rise-assist position.

  • Patent number: 6926700
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a shieldable blood collection set and a needle assembly. The needle assembly includes a needle cannula having a puncture tip at a distal end, and a needle retraction mechanism including a hub portion at a proximal end which supports the needle cannula, a shield portion at a distal end, and an extendable member hingedly connected therebetween. The hub portion includes a lateral hub extension extending toward a distal end of the needle cannula, and the shield portion includes a lateral shield extension extending toward a proximal end of said needle cannula. Opposing lateral forces applied against the extendable member and an opposing lateral side of the needle retraction mechanism cause relative axial movement between the hub portion and the shield portion between a first sampling state with the puncture exposed, and a second shielded state with the puncture tip contained within the shield portion.

  • Publication number: 20030181870
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a shieldable blood collection set as well as a needle assembly for use therein. The needle assembly includes a needle cannula having a puncture tip at a distal end thereof; a hub which supports the needle cannula; and a shield axially movable between a non-shielding position, in which the puncture tip of the needle cannula is exposed from the shield, and a shielding position in which the shield covers the puncture tip. A pair of extendable members interconnects the hub and the shield. The pair of extendable members are moveable between a mating position forming a unitary structure; a lateral position forming a pair of wings extending from opposing sides of the needle assembly; and an extended position causing the shield to move from the non-shielding position to the shielding position.

  • Patent number: 6412738
Abstract: A stand for supporting a stenographic machine from a chair is provided. The stand includes a chair clamp releasably mountable to the seat portion of the chair. The chair clamp is adjustable along a longitudinal axis of the chair clamp. A support which has first and second ends is pivotally connected to the chair clamp at the first end. The support includes a first portion telescopically connected to a second portion. The second portion is rotatably connected to a third portion. A stabilizer which is adapted to engage a bottom of the seat portion extends from the first end of the support. An arm which is adapted to support an operator's forearm extends from the second end of the support. A connector which is adapted to releasably connect a stenographic machine to the stand is connected to the second end of the support.

  • Patent number: 6206600
Abstract: Disclosed is a combination toothbrush and toothpaste dispenser. The toothpaste dispenser has a top and a container located therein. The container has a top and a bottom, and toothpaste located within the container. The container is compressible. The toothbrush includes a head portion which has a plurality of bristles extending therefrom and at least one hole extending thereinto. The toothbrush also includes a stem portion having a channel extending therethrough. The channel has first and second opposing ends. The first end is in fluid communication with the at least one hole and the second end is in fluid communication with the top of the container. The toothbrush is reciprocally mounted to the toothpaste dispenser, whereby reciprocation of the toothbrush relative to the toothpaste dispenser from a first position to a second position compresses the container to pump the toothpaste from the container, through the channel, and through the at least one hole and to the bristles for brushing.

  • Patent number: 5904806
Abstract: An applicator for dispensing tape, with the tape having an adhesive on at least one face. The applicator includes a shell with a pivotably attached door. A tape cartridge is received within the door. The cartridge supports a roll of the tape, and a leading edge of the tape extends outwardly from the roll. A partial cylindrical cover member is connected to the first end of the shell for pivotable movement thereabout along a predetermined path to cover the first passageway. A slider having a first end which is pivotally connected to the cover member and having a button which extends through a first slot in the shell is movable between a first position, in which the cover member covers the first passageway, and a second position, in which the cover member is removed from the first passageway. A cutter actuator is located on the slider and is movable in response to inward pressure on the button when the slider is in the second position. A cutting tool is pivotally connected to the shell.

  • Patent number: 5830779
Abstract: A photovoltaic module that serves as a shingle, tile or other building material that may be placed onto the exterior of a structure. The photovoltaic module generates a voltage when exposed to light and this voltage may be directed onto transmission lines of a power utility and/or into an external battery that may serve as a source of power for the building on which the photovoltaic shingles are laid. The practice of the present invention provides for a variety of mechanical and electrical connectors for securing together the photovoltaic modules and/or for connecting the photovoltaic modules to the exterior structure. Furthermore, the structure of the modules is such that the modules are automatically electrically connected together when laid on the building.

  • Patent number: 5735999
Abstract: An applicator for dispensing tape is disclosed. The applicator comprises a shell and a cover that is used as a knob for moving an instrument of a cutting tool for cutting the tape. In operation, the cover is rotated and moved in a counterclockwise direction to cause one of its ends to find its way into a passageway allowing it to contact a lever member which, in turn, contacts an arm member of the cutting tool thereby causing the adhesive tape to be severed thereat. The applicator is shaped, contoured, and sized so as to be manipulated by a single hand of a user and the cover member is mechanized so that the applicator only exposes the tape to the outside environment during the usage of the tape and, thereby, retards the tape from being subjected to contaminants.
