  • Publication number: 20050201370
Abstract: A system for establishing an Internet Protocol (IP) connection with a terminating node includes an originating node capable of initiating communication with the terminating node. The system also includes an intermediate node located between the originating node and the terminating node. The originating node is capable of initiating communication by either (a) requesting communication with the terminating node via the intermediate node, or (b) notifying the terminating node of incoming data independent of the intermediate node. In this regard, when the originating node initiates communication in accordance with (a), either the originating node or the intermediate node is capable of notifying the terminating node of incoming data. Upon being notified of incoming data, then, the terminating node is capable of registering with the intermediate node to thereby establish an IP connection between the originating node and the terminating node via the intermediate node.

  • Publication number: 20050004968
Abstract: Mobile Information Server (MIS) (704) provides mobile information services to network (702). Local data stored in server directory (708) generated from MIS (704), such as image data from imagery device (722) or telemetry data from telemetry device (712), is network accessible through request handler (706). Additionally, MIS (704) provides access to external devices (714-720) via Common Gateway Interface (CGI) 710. Thus, MIS (704) acts as a mobile information server to network (702) for local, or proximately located information sources, even when the user of MIS (704) is not available.

  • Patent number: 6714778
Abstract: The context sensitive web services method enables a mobile phone or wireless device to use context inference techniques to sense the user's environment and in response, to provide useful information to the user that is appropriate to the user's perceived environment. The method includes the steps of receiving sensor signals characterizing a current environment of the wireless device; processing the sensor signals with a context inference engine; outputting a current context result from the processing by context inference engine; and providing useful information to the user in response to the current context result. A further aspect of the method provides user control of access by application programs to the user's private data, including private data in a server. Still further, this can also include providing user control of access by application programs in a web server, to the user's private data.

  • Patent number: 6671370
Abstract: A telephone system includes a plurality of telephone terminals wherein a call that is placed from a calling telephone terminal to a receiving telephone terminal is announced by activating a standard ringing indication at the receiving telephone terminal. A data file is provided having a plurality of different ringing indications therein. These ringing indications include a plurality of sound information that are both different from each other and different from a standard ringing tone, and a plurality of different visual information. When a call is placed from a calling telephone terminal to a receiving telephone terminal, the user at the calling telephone terminal may optionally elect to announce the call at the receiving-telephone-terminal using ringing indication that is selected from the data-file, for example sound information that indicates the identity of the calling-users, and/or visual information that indicates the priority of the call.

  • Patent number: 6633758
Abstract: Methods and devices for modifying operational modes in a communication device based on application specific parameters. The operational modes of the communication device are modified by adding the application specific parameters of the application to the operational modes of the communication device. Further, commands may be automatically launched after an operational mode change in a communication device. One or more commands to be automatically launched when an operational mode becomes a current operational mode currently used by the communication device are entered into the operational mode of a communication device of a user. Whether the current operational mode has any commands to be automatically launched is determined. The one or more commands are automatically launched if the current operational mode has any commands to be automatically launched.
