  • Publication number: 20020174117
Abstract: A method is disclosed to enable a mobile phone or wireless PDA to discover Internet businesses and services by accessing the Universal Description, Discovery and Integration (UDDI) registry. The method facilitates the formation of a query to the UDDI registry for the wireless device user. The method constructs a personal user profile of the user's UDDI searching strategies and Internet accessing preferences. The user profile can be used as a shortcut for online or offline queries to the UDDI registry or for accessing pages from web sites, in response to the user's entry of abbreviated inputs to the wireless device. The method is embodied as programmed instructions which may be executed within the user's wireless device to query the UDDI registry. Alternately, method is embodied as programmed instructions which may be executed within a separate knowledge engine server to query the UDDI registry in response to commands from the user's wireless device.

  • Publication number: 20020173295
Abstract: The context sensitive web services method enables a mobile phone or wireless device to use context inference techniques to sense the user's environment and in response, to provide useful information to the user that is appropriate to the user's perceived environment. The method includes the steps of receiving sensor signals characterizing a current environment of the wireless device; processing the sensor signals with a context inference engine; outputting a current context result from the processing by context inference engine; and providing useful information to the user in response to the current context result. A further aspect of the method provides user control of access by application programs to the user's private data, including private data in a server. Still further, this can also include providing user control of access by application programs in a web server, to the user's private data.

  • Patent number: 6362841
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for forming a device-specific icon (22,23) related to an external device (MS1, MS2, MS3) in a data processor (PC), in which the optical properties of the pixels are changed in order to present desired information. In this method, a local area link is established in order to transmit information between the said data processor and external device (MS1, MS2, MS3). In the external device (MS1, MS2, MS3) or in a determined communications address at least some device-specific information has been stored in advance. The icon information required to form the icon (22,23) is transmitted to the data processor (PC) from the external device (MS1, MS2, MS3), or the address indicating the storage location of the icon information is transferred to the data processor (PC) from the external device (MS1, MS2, MS3), wherein at least some of the icon information is transmitted from the storage location indicated in the storage address with the help of the data processor (PC).

  • Patent number: 6285889
Abstract: In an information output system according to the invention data (48) processed by an application (40) is processed in a terminal device (10) into a data transfer format (44) independent of the application (40) using a specific format generator (42). After this the data (48) is transferred to a second terminal device (20) via mobile communication network. In the receiving terminal device a specific data transfer application decodes the data (48) in the independent data format (44) into a form suitable for the output devices, and automatically transfers it to the output devices for outputting.

  • Patent number: 6188909
Abstract: The present invention relates to a communicator (1) having means for displaying and processing an information card containing information, and means for transmitting the information on the information card using radio communication, the transmission including an information card identifier and a destination identifier. The information on the information card is processed into characters, and a short message (103, 104) is formed of said characters, to be transmitted using radio communication, and sent to a receiver through a short message service center (SM-SC).

  • Patent number: 6067534
Abstract: In data transfer connections with disturbances, e.g. in cellular networks, it is possible to establish and maintain an optimal connection using the solution according to the present invention. The optimal parameters for each data transfer connection are saved in the modem database. When the user next calls a number, the data of which has been saved, the parameters saved in the database are first used for the connection control. Interference occurring during the data transfer is handled with the help of the database with adaptive logic searching for the optimal data transfer rate and other connection parameters.

  • Patent number: 5923443
Abstract: A new functionality in a fax communication system including a PC with a virtual data port (DTE) and a fax modem (DCE), having an infrared (IR) connection between them, wherein the DCE is capable of indicating to the local infrared communications, i.e., IrDA IrCOMM, port or interface the type of the software flow control, either local or end-to-end, so that the local and the remote IrCOMM ports can be made to function such that:______________________________________ IF an XON/XOFF character is received from the client AND the mode is end-to-end AND the SW flow control is enabled, THEN the XON/XOFF character is handled as flow control and the character is transmitted to the host IrCOMM. ______________________________________A new interface primitive at the interface of the IrCOMM in the DCE requests the desired mode and if the desired mode is "local", the XON/XOFF characters are not transmitted to the host system when SW flow control is active.

  • Patent number: 5706110
Abstract: A method is provided wherein idle periods occurring in the data transmission between various services are detected by means of a Power Manager, whereby the infrared link (IrDA-SIR) is shut down automatically. The link restarts automatically when new activity is detected. Thanks to the method, at least one of the stations can also go into the sleep mode, even though a virtual link to the application layer (7) of the other station is maintained in the application layer (7).
