  • Publication number: 20040084799
Abstract: Systems and methods for making a material composition are disclosed. The method includes mixing a thermoset polymer, a petroleum distillate, a release agent, and a catalyst to form an admixture. A cellulosic material is mixed with the admixture to form a generally homogenous furnish. The system includes a mixing chamber, a feeding chamber, and a die. The die includes a pressing chamber, which has a volume formed by first and second platens. The platens are in facing opposition to one another and have a length extending continuously from an entrance to an exit of the die. The platens have a plurality of orifices and heating elements disposed along the length. The platens are disposed in first and second positions. The first position forms a first volume and the second position forms a second volume.

  • Publication number: 20030196282
Abstract: Method and apparatus for recovering and purifying a solvent used in an article cleaning appliance are provided. The method allows passing solvent-based cleaning fluid from a wash basket through a coarse filter configured to remove relatively large particulates from the cleaning fluid. The method further allows passing cleaning fluid from the coarse filter through a particulate filter configured to remove relatively fine particulates from the cleaning fluid. An aqueous phase that may be present in the cleaning fluid is separated by decanting and coalescing through a separator/filter assembly. The cleaning fluid may then be passed through a regeneration cartridge for removing any water that may remain in the cleaning fluid, and for adsorbing organic contaminants that may be present in the cleaning fluid. Recovered solvent may be stored in a tank for subsequent use in a cleaning process performed by the appliance.

  • Publication number: 20030135308
Abstract: The present invention relates to measurement of the trajectory of a motor vehicle with respect to a roadway. A trajectory measurement system for a motor vehicle (1), comprises a sensing system (20, 21) for sensing the positions of roadway edges (5), a memory (24) that stores data relating to the width, and optionally lane width, of different types of road (4) on which the vehicle (1) may travel, and a data processor means (2) linked (26, 29) to the sensing system (20, 21) and memory (24). The processor means (2) compares the sensed positions of roadway edges (5) with the road width data in order to deduce the type of road (4) on which the vehicle (1) travels, and optionally also the lane in which the vehicle travels. The system may also include a vehicle speed sensor (13, 15) linked (33, 35) to the data processor means (2).

  • Publication number: 20030116373
Abstract: A motor vehicle having a plurality of road engaging wheels (7-10), a braking system (3, 14-18) linked to the wheels (7-10) by which a driver of the vehicle (1) may brake the vehicle, a motive means (50) linked to one or more of the wheels (7-10) by which a driver of the vehicle may control vehicle speed, and a dynamic stability control system that includes a means (12-17, 20-22, 24) for deducing the position and orientation of the vehicle system (12-17, 20-22, 24) for predicting the trajectory (TP) of the motor vehicle (1) with respect to the roadway (4) and for identifying when the predicted trajectory (TP) would place the vehicle in danger, and a wheel slip detection system (14-18, 51) for detecting loss of traction of one or more of the wheels (12-17).

  • Patent number: 6379040
Abstract: An x-ray system is provided that produces noise at or below ambient levels. The system includes a positioning arm, an x-ray tube, an x-ray detector, and an acoustic dampening interface mounting between the x-ray tube and a first end of the positioning arm. The acoustic dampening interface may be a rubber isolator that absorbs the vibrations produced by the x-ray tube. The rubber isolator may include a rubber isolation tube positioned within a hole formed in a mounting plate of the x-ray tube. Alternatively, the rubber isolator may include a rubber washer and a rubber isolation layer, or isolation ring.

  • Patent number: 6233515
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a headway control for an adaptive cruise control system based on a basic headway control law derived from feedback linearization techniques. The usefulness of the linear approximations is demonstrated, and basic attributes of data which are believed important to system response are introduced. Certain modifications to a basic headway controller for enabling system performance to better meet driver expectations under real road conditions are made as a result of empirical information.

  • Patent number: 6081762
Abstract: A cruise control system for a motor vehicle includes a sensor for monitoring a target vehicle moving in front of the equipped vehicle, a sensor for monitoring the speed of the equipped vehicle and a sensor for monitoring steering manoeuvres of the equipped vehicle, the cruise control system controlling the throttle and brake systems of the vehicle to control the speed of the vehicle. The cruise control system is switchable between a cruise mode in which it will maintain a set cruising speed when the path in front of the vehicle is clear and a follow mode in which it will maintain a preset headway with a target vehicle in front of the equipped vehicle. The system is switched from the cruise mode to the follow mode when a target vehicle moves inside the preset headway, the system switching from the follow mode to the cruise mode when the target vehicle is lost or moves outside a preset headway.
