  • Patent number: 5749514
Abstract: A hollow stackable injection-molded product includes a generally conically contoured sidewall having a plurality of longitudinal folds of alternating ridges and furrows. Each fold includes a first side strip laterally extending from the top of a first ridge to the bottom of a first furrow and a second side strip laterally extending from the bottom of the first furrow to the top of a second ridge next to the first ridge. Over most of the longitudinal extent of the sidewall, at least a predominant portion of each of the second side strips has an outward approximately conic-section lateral curvature to thereby provide a better fit between like products of such configuration when stacked inside one another and to thereby further reduce their stacking height. The lateral curvature of each second side strip is approximately circular.

  • Patent number: 5716582
Abstract: During operation of a molding apparatus that combines a cavity part having a plurality of cavity sections and a core part having a plurality of cores to define a plurality of mold cavities therebetween, when the cavity part and the core part are first separated from one another following formation of products in the mold cavities, force is applied to the products in order to retain the products in the cavity part. While the cavity part and the core part are being further separated from one another the products are moved from the cavity part to the core part; and the products are ejected from the core part when the cavity part and the core part are still further separated from one another. Alternatively, the products are ejected from the cavity part.

  • Patent number: 5707577
Abstract: In an injection molding apparatus in which first and second mold parts are combined to define therebetween an insulated section of a runner system through which molten plastic material is injected into at least one mold cavity, spring-biased plungers are included in at least one of the first and second mold parts for restraining a shell of plastic material within at least a part of the insulated section of the runner system from contacting any portion of at least one of the mold parts within the insulated section of the runner system other than the plungers when the first and second mold parts are separated from one another.

  • Patent number: 5688541
Abstract: In a multi-cavity molding apparatus that includes a cavity part having a plurality of cavity sections that is combined with a core part having a plurality of cores to define a plurality of mold cavities therebetween, and a plurality of locking rings respectively disposed around a plurality of the cores for engagement with respective cavity sections when the core part is combined with the cavity part, a cavity shield is attached to the cavity part to prevent molded products ejected from the mold cavities from entering spaces between the cavity sections of the cavity part and a core shield is attached to the core part to help prevent the ejected products from entering spaces between the cores of the core part. The cavity shield and the core shield thereby respectively limit obstruction by the cavity part and the core part of removal of the ejected products from the space between the cavity past and the core part. The core shield includes more than the ejection means.

  • Patent number: 5262313
Abstract: Carrageenan-immobilized enzymes are prepared that are stable and retain high activity toward substrates when used in substantially water-immiscible organic solvents. The carrageenan-immobilized enzymes are preferably prepared by introducing droplets of an enzyme/carrageenan solution into a chilled alcohol saturated with a potassium salt and hardening the droplets in the alcohol. The alcohol is selected from n-butanol, benzyl alcohol, crotyl alcohol, n-propanol, isopropanol and sec-butanol. Reactions catalyzed by a .kappa.-carrageenan-immobilized esterase include steroselective transesterifications and hydrolysis reactions.

  • Patent number: 5012608
Abstract: This spray boom is provided with nozzles delivering spray under a shield that confines the spray to a downward-rearward direction. The boom is mounted on a conventional tractor with a freedom to swing upward and to the rear on accidental contact with an obstruction. The boom can also be elevated for transport. The outer section of the boom is yieldable and can swing back separately on contact with a tree trunk, and this outer section is also provided with a resilient whip extension to lay down grass and weeds between trees.

  • Patent number: 5010973
Abstract: A three-wheeled freight-carrying vehicle has a platform section with coaxial driving wheels, and a power section at the opposite end driving a steerable single wheel. An operator's platform is provided at the side of the single wheel. The single wheel and the platform section wheels are vertically adjustable with respect to the platform section.

  • Patent number: 4753034
Abstract: A vertical-axis centrifugal fan is operated in an orchard or crop area to draw warm upper air downward, and urge it laterally outward to displace lower strata of cold air to prevent freezing. The rotor is axially open on top, and closed on the bottom to establish this flow without ducting.

  • Patent number: 4169511
Abstract: A three-wheeled vehicle has a pulpit boom mounted near a single steering wheel for azimuth and elevation positioning under control from the pulpit. All three wheels are driven, also under control from the pulpit. The boom assembly supporting the pulpit swings laterally over the area generally above, and slightly laterally beyond, the two coaxial wheels. The actuator responsible for boom elevation moves in a sector between diagonal bracing supporting an upper bearing for the vertical journal section of the boom assembly.

  • Patent number: 3961468
Abstract: An apparatus for trimming trees, hedges, and the like including a cutting arm supported in a centilevered fashion from an upstanding tower. The cutting arm includes flexible, resilient, drive and idler wheels rotatably mounting a continuous, band-type saw blade. As the blade is rotated in a closed path, it cuts and transports the trimmings toward a guard on the arm which causes them to be deposited in a row adjacent the path of travel of the apparatus. Means are included for moving the cutting arm vertically along the tower and for pivoting and rotating the arm in order to selectively position the height and angle of the cutting blade.
