  • Patent number: 5123333
Abstract: The present invention relates to a fluid operated device having a stator and a rotating vane mounted on a shaft enclosed in a cylindrical body with head members at each end of the housing. The pressure of the fluid is different on each side of the vane for such devices, and an elastomeric seal is provided on the vane to prevent leakage of fluid from one side of the vane to the other. The present invention provides for a metal to metal seal between the cylindrical body and the head members such that the elastomeric seal on the vane will seal against metal surfaces as it sweeps along the union of these two members.

  • Patent number: 5085298
Abstract: There is disclosed a hydraulic fluid regulator for automatically supplying hydraulic fluid to the pressure chamber of a rotary torque resistance actuator to replace fluid which may move out of the pressure chamber of the actuator when the fluid is heated and expands. The regulator includes a pneumatically pressurized fluid supply reservoir connected to the pressure chamber in the actuator by two parallel conduits respectively having spring loaded check valves therein connected in opposite directions to supply fluid to the chamber when the pressure in the chamber falls below a preset value and to transmit fluid from the chamber to the reservoir when the pressure in the pressure chamber exceeds a different preset value. The reservoir also includes a third bypass conduit connected in parallel with the first two conduits for metering fluid from the actuator chamber when the fluid expands, and a filter is connected in line with the three conduits.

  • Patent number: 4941554
Abstract: A torque resistance device includes a rotor, a vane, and a valve device for regulating the resistance at which the rotor operates. The valve device is mounted to the housing for the rotor and vane assembly. The valve device includes a valve member which is adjustable via a threaded shaft.

  • Patent number: 4919040
Abstract: A rotor assembly includes a shaft and a planar vane extending in a radial direction from the shaft and having a peripheral groove receiving a resilient sealing gasket. The vane includes a tongue portion which depends into a radial cavity in the shaft and is sealably cemented thereto. Radially extending ribs on the ends of the tongue are accurately fitted against the ends of the cavity which are aligned with the adjacent ends of the bottom walls of the peripheral groove.

  • Patent number: 4823678
Abstract: Each of the head assemblies of a rotary actuator includes a tapered roller bearing in which the shaft of the actuator is journaled and an end plate against the inner face of which the stator and movable vanes of the actuator are sealed by a resilient jacket. A pressure equalizing passageway extends through each end plate from the cavity in which the associated roller bearing is mounted to the gasket which seals the stator to the end plate, thereby to equalize the pressure across the end plate and reduce the torque required to initially rotate the actuator shaft.

  • Patent number: 4702525
Abstract: A miner bit has a base portion formed of two different metallic members welded together, one being adapted to be mounted to a continuous mining machine and the other having a frustoconical end portion welded to a frustoconical tungsten carbide bit.

  • Patent number: 4656925
Abstract: A face seal between the rotor and stator of a fluid-operated rotory motor is formed by a seal member formed of a low friction material having a low surface coefficient of friction and a low memory and extruded into sealing engagement with an associated part by an elastomeric seal member as the rotor and stator are assembled.

  • Patent number: 4590711
Abstract: A semi-automatic grinding machine for grinding the tips of carbide miner bits. The machine includes two rotary holders, one semi-automatic holder for grinding a heel on the miner bit carrier, and a second automatic holder for grinding the bit tip. An electrical-pneumatic control system automatically brings the bit in contact with the grinding wheel under controlled pressure, reciprocates the bit across the grinding wheel, retracts the bit from the grinding wheel and releases the bit from the holder. Provision for compensating for changes in the radial dimension of the grinding wheel are included.

  • Patent number: 4576528
Abstract: A rotary tool holder for use with an automatic or semi-automatic tool grinding machine is disclosed. The tool holder includes a rotating collet and spindle. The spindle is driven through a torque limiting coupling for protection against lock up. A shaft is connected to the spindle through the torque limiting coupling which includes a disc spring made up of a plurality of concave-convex shaped discs in frictional engagement with the shaft and the spindle. The disc spring will slip at a given torque during lock up. A fluid responsive collet actuator is provided for automatic opening and closing of the collet.
