  • Publication number: 20040080866
Abstract: Applicants disclose a method for producing a magnetic transducer with a inductive write head having a multilayer coil with a high aspect ratio and a short yoke. A damascene process is used for two coil layers and a conventional process for the third coil layer. The process of the invention allows a seed layer for the coil to be deposited on the side walls of the trenches for the first and second coil layers. In one embodiment the seed layer for the coil is preceded by an adhesion layer.

  • Publication number: 20040075938
Abstract: A Damascene process is provided for manufacturing a coil structure for a magnetic head. During the manufacturing process, an insulating layer is initially deposited after which a photoresist layer is deposited. A silicon dielectric layer is then deposited on the photoresist layer. After masking the silicon dielectric layer, at least one channel is etched in the photoresist layer and the silicon dielectric layer. Then, a conductive seed layer is deposited in the at least one channel. The at least one channel is then ready to be filled with a conductive material and chemically/mechanically polished to define a coil structure.

  • Publication number: 20030137767
Abstract: A thin-film write head employing pole pieces formed of an electroplated body-centered cubic (BCC) nickel-iron alloy with a saturation flux density (BS) of 1.9 to 2.3 T (19 to 23 kG) and an acceptable coercivity (HC) of about 80 to about 160 A/m (1-2 Oe). The iron content of the electroplated nickel-iron alloy is from 64% to 81% by weight. The two-layer pole fabrication process holds magnetic anisotropy and coercivity to useable values while improving saturation flux density and optimizing magnetostriction. This is accomplished by first electroplating a BCC nickel-iron layer onto an underlying seed layer and then annealing the two layers to reduce coercivity to less than about 160 amps/meter and raise magnetization to acceptable levels.

  • Publication number: 20030023592
Abstract: A method and system for using Threat Imaging Projection (TIP) technology, and the operator testing data that it generates, in order to certify x-ray inspection system operators and thereby assure an acceptable and uniform level of operator performance. In a preferred configuration, the operator views x-ray images of objects on a screening system equipped with TIP technology. When the operator believes that a threat item image appears on the screening system, the operator indicates such via an indicating means. The system is capable of recording, storing and transmitting individual operator performance data relating to proper detections, missed detections, and false alarms, i.e., when an operator indicates that a threat item image appears when no such image actually appears on the screening system. The system preferably contains a library of various threat item images, e.g., guns, bombs, knives, etc., which are classified according to type of threat and difficulty of detection.

  • Patent number: 6445244
Abstract: A sensor for measuring a current passing through a load. The sensor has a power transistor having a first terminal connected to substantially constant voltage and a second terminal connected to the load. The sensor can sample a voltage difference with a variable capacitor, and a controller can be configured to cause a variable capacitor in the current sensor to have a capacitance inversely proportional to a resistance of the power transistor, whereby a charge stored on the variable capacitor is proportional to the current passing through the power transistor when the sampling switches are opened. A comparator can compare the current through the power transistor to a known reference current to generate a digital output signal. The sensor can include a power transistor, reference transistor and amplifier connected and configured so as to generate a signal on a reference line having a current of known proportion to the current passing through the load.

  • Patent number: 5734260
Abstract: A short-circuit protection circuit senses the output current of an output transistor to provide a control signal to a control transistor. The control transistor, in response to the control signal, varies an input voltage to an internal stage of an amplifier driving the output transistor, so as to cause the output transistor is switched off. A hysteresis resistor is coupled in series with an input terminal of the short circuit protection circuit, so as to prevent transient noise from switching off said output transistor.
