  • Publication number: 20180206282
Abstract: A network device (e.g., an evolved Node B (eNB), user equipment (UE) or the like) can split a 3GPP bearer in a multi-radio heterogeneous network of a radio access network (RAN) between a plurality of communication links. The plurality of communication links can comprise a 3GPP link and one or more other multi-radio links of the multi-radio heterogeneous network. The bearer can be split dynamically or statically based on a plurality of heterogeneous network metrics. The network device can further determine the proportions, or ratios of traffic data to be transmitted between the plurality of communication links based on the proportions of the 3GPP bearer split and heterogeneous metrics.

  • Publication number: 20180192425
Abstract: Methods adapted for measuring interference in joint communications and Access Points (APs) are described. The interference can be between the AP and first and second communication stations (STAs). In a method to measure interference, a first communication between the AP and the first STA can be established. Further, a second communication between the AP and the second STA can be established. The second communication can include transmitting a null data packet (NDP) to the second STA based on the first communication to measure STA-to-STA inference between the first STA and the second STA.

  • Publication number: 20180192431
Abstract: Various embodiments may be generally directed to full duplex (FDX) communications on a wireless channel. More specifically, in various embodiments described herein, FDX communications may occur on a wireless channel between a FDX capable device, such as an access point (AP), and two or more half-duplex (HDX) capable devices, such as a plurality of stations (STAs). For instance, the AP may transmit information to a first station (STA) via a wireless channel at the same time as receiving information from a second STA via the wireless channel. In some embodiments, the AP may arrange the FDX communications.

  • Publication number: 20180184409
Abstract: The 802.11ax Trigger Frame conveys information for solicited MU UL OFDM(A) transmission information. A full-duplex-capable AP can initiate another DL frame transmission(s) during the UL transmission. However, non-UL-solicited STAs may enter a low-power sleep state right after a Trigger Frame reception, and thus cannot receive the full-duplex DL transmission from the AP. Therefore, to enable OFDMA-based full-duplex communication, the AP needs to explicitly announce both scheduled UL and DL transmission(s) in the Trigger Frame.

  • Publication number: 20180176954
Abstract: Access to unlicensed bands is typically preceded by a LBT or CCA mechanism, through which the transmitter determines the presence of ongoing transmissions in the same channel. Specifically, an AP or STA (prior to transmitting) senses the channel, and transmits only if the channel is adjudged to be idle. As mandated by the current IEEE 802.11 standard, the energy detected in the channel is compared with a predefined CCA threshold (signal detect threshold is ?82 dBm and energy threshold is ?62 dBm for 20 MHz OFDM transmission). This creates an RF-energy based guard zone around each transmitter and hence prevents any other transmitter from reusing the medium. To fully leverage simultaneous transmit and receive capability at an AP, it is desirable for the AP to simultaneously send downlink data to a STA while receiving UL data from another STA. However, with traditional CCA methods, the downlink transmission would be blocked.

  • Publication number: 20180176869
Abstract: In a radio access network, user equipment (UE) is to encode signaling for sector-sweep transmission to a base station via a plurality of directional beams in a millimeter-wave radio band over a random-access shared channel during at least one contention period, and determine a transmission power setting for the directional transmission. The transmission power setting is based on a targeted received signal characteristic to be achieved at the base station using a selected beam direction, and the transmission power setting is determined based on transmission parameters of the UE and reception parameters of the base station, and on channel characteristics. The UE is to initiate transmission of the signaling using the transmission power setting for the plurality of directional beams, wherein the signaling is transmitted to be received according to a targeted received signal characteristic to be achieved at the base station.

  • Patent number: 9942793
Abstract: A user equipment (UE) is configured to receive a maximum probability of accessing a wireless local area network (WLAN) for communication. The maximum probability is received via a 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) communication link with an Evolved Universal Terrestrial Radio Access Network (E-UTRAN) Node B (eNB). The UE is further configured to determine that there is a queued transmission for the UE and, in response to determining that there is a queued transmission, to determine whether the UE is authorized to access to the WLAN using a probability less than or equal to the maximum probability. The UE is further configured to delay contention for access to the WLAN for at least a pre-backoff duration in response to determining that the UE is not authorized.
