  • Publication number: 20060082962
Abstract: A portable computer includes a base unit (70), and a display unit (10) pivotally connected to the base unit for movement between a closed position and an open position. A pair of hooks (11) is arranged on the display unit, each hook including a latching portion (113). A pair of catches (571) is arranged on the base unit and movable with respect to the hooks, each catch including a free end which snappingly engages the latching portion of a corresponding hook to attach the display unit to the base unit at the closed position. The latching portion of each hook defines an arcuate surface (574) along which each hook drives a corresponding catch to disengage from each other during movement of the display unit from a closed position to an open position.

  • Patent number: 6996702
Abstract: A processing system includes an arithmetic logic unit (ALU) sub-system that allows data associated with a prior instruction to be preserved for use with a next instruction or subsequent instruction without having to reload the value using an intermediate register. The ALU sub-system includes a pair of ALUs communicatively cross-coupled with a pair of accumulators. The processing system also includes a data selector coupled to the ALU sub-system for use with memory contention prediction. The data selector includes a constant generator that controls storage of data associated with a previous instruction in a bypass element, and a selector to choose between data from a databus element and data stored in the bypass element.

  • Publication number: 20050249293
Abstract: A noise filter for a video processing system includes a block selector, a cost calculator, a cost table, a cost comparator, and a coefficient filter. The block selector is coupled to receive data from the quantization unit and selects blocks for additional filtering. The selected blocks are provided to the cost calculator determines a cost for each of the coefficients in the block using the cost table and the costs are summed. The cost comparator compares the total to a threshold, and filters the coefficients using the coefficient filter if the total is greater a preset threshold. The noise filter to the VLC unit then outputs the filter data.

  • Publication number: 20050249292
Abstract: Video data compression requires several calculations to be made repeatedly on pixel data from the video. Some of those calculations are used to determine which way to encode portions of the video data, either to provide the best compression results or simply to comply with the MPEG specification. The present invention presents a set of calculations and logic that can be performed in parallel so that the delay is minimized in order to speed up the compression of digital video data. The present invention provides a third escape mode for use when in performing variable length coding.

  • Patent number: 6955532
Abstract: An apparatus and method of producing dense, near net shape components of advanced materials such as intermetallics, ceramics, and their composites. The method consists of two major steps combined into one. First step includes the preparation of semi-solid or liquid materials by means of combustion synthesis or self-propagating high-temperature synthesis. The second step includes the densification and near net shape forming of such combustion products by semi-solid metalworking or die casting techniques. The combination of combustion synthesis and semi-solid metalworking or die casting techniques provides a low cost, fast production method for many articles made of high temperature materials such as intermetallics, ceramics, and their composites.

  • Patent number: 6501909
Abstract: A first movable barrel is rotated and moved along an optical path by driving force of a motor. A second movable barrel is attached to the interior of the first movable barrel. The second movable barrel does not rotate, but goes straight along the optical path together with the first movable barrel. Inside the second movable barrel, is rotatably attached a lens turret in which a plurality of lenses are concentrically arranged. The lens turret is intermittently rotated in accordance with a rotation of the first movable barrel to set one of the lenses at the optical path. Each lens is set to the optical path at a position where back focus is taken into consideration, so that a focal length of a taking lens is changed. When the lens turret goes straight together with the second movable barrel without rotating, focusing is performed at the set focal length. A magnification of a viewfinder optical system is changed in association with a rotation of the lens turret.

  • Publication number: 20020127699
Abstract: Compositions, formulae, devices and methods for the detection of target microorganisms, such as by visual immunoprecipitate assay, enzyme linked immunoassay, chemiluminescence, immunoblotting, or similar detection technology, wherein detection requires the discrimination among closely related genera, species and strains of antigenically related microorganisms based on immunological reactivity of a highly conserved antigen epitopes with a reagent system comprised of an antibody linked to a detecting reagent. The invention permits a detectable event to occur by exposing inaccessible but highly conserved and specific antigen epitopes to the detecting reagent. Exposure of such antigen epitopes without inactivating microbial metabolism allows for specific detection.

  • Publication number: 20020115095
Abstract: This invention is the procedure of a kind of gene chips. Large amounts of PCR reactions can be performed in a small chip. 100-20,000 Micro-Reactors (MRs) will be implemented in the chips, in which a set of reactive media is immobilized. Many kinds of PCR reactions will be performed simultaneously with the same sample; the selected hundreds of gene will be amplified millions folds, then the several kinds of gene variance can be identified.
