  • Patent number: 9251595
Abstract: A method of correcting an infrared image is provided. The method includes receiving an image from a camera comprising a first pixel with a first pixel value and a neighbor pixel with a neighbor pixel value. The first pixel and the neighbor pixel can be assumed to view the same object. The method further includes storing the first and neighbor pixel values in an image table, generating a corrected image table by adding the first pixel value to a corrected pixel value in a correction table, determining that the camera is not moving, and masking edges in the corrected image table. The method further includes updating the correction table by: determining that the first pixel value and neighbor pixel value are not edges, computing the difference between the first and neighbor pixel values, and storing the difference in the correction table. The method further includes providing an output image table.

  • Publication number: 20150342761
Abstract: The drug eluting device consists of an implantable structural element for in vivo controlled delivery of bioactive active agents to a situs in a body. The implantable structural element may be configured as an implantable prosthesis, such as an endoluminal stent, cardiac valve, osteal implant or the like, which serves a dual function of being prosthetic and a carrier for a bioactive agent. Control over elution of the bioactive agents occurs through a plurality of cantilever-like cover members which prevent drug elution until an endogenous or exogenous stimulus causes the cover members to open and permit drug elution.

  • Patent number: 9198635
Abstract: High intensity ultrasound (HIU) is used to facilitate surgical procedures, such as a laparoscopic partial nephrectomy, with minimal bleeding. An apparatus is configured to emit HIU from one or more transducers that are attached to a minimally invasive surgical instrument. Such a tool preferably can provide sufficient clamping pressure to collapse blood vessels' walls, so that they will be sealed by the application of the HIU, and by the resulting thermal ablation and tissue cauterization. Such an instrument can provide feedback to the user that the lesion is completely transmural and that blood flow to the region distal of the line of thermal ablation has ceased. Similar instruments having opposed arms can be configured for use in conventional surgical applications as well. Instruments can be implemented with transducers on only one arm, and an ultrasound reflective material disposed on the other arm.

  • Publication number: 20150320384
Abstract: A system and method for detecting, via ultrasound, a concretion in a subject are provided. One or more ultrasound pulses are transmitted into the concretion and at least one object of interest, such as a bubble, present in the concretion. Reflection signals from the concretion and the bubble are then contrasted using the twinkling artifact, and a filter removes motion signals. An output device, such as a display, provides an indication of the presence of the concretion based on the reflection signals.

  • Publication number: 20150320383
Abstract: A system and method for determining, via ultrasound, a size of a concretion in a subject are provided. One or more ultrasound pulses are transmitted into a tissue in the subject, which are then reflected from the tissue and received by the ultrasound transducer. A shadow region obscured by the concretion that does not provide reflected signals is generated, and the width of the shadow region is measured. The width of the object is determined based on the width of the shadow region.

  • Publication number: 20150275648
Abstract: Methods and systems for detecting downhole bit dysfunction in a drill bit penetrating a subterranean formation comprising receiving a plurality of drilling parameters characterizing a wellbore drilling operation and calculating bit aggressiveness (?) at each of a plurality of points during drilling, wherein each point corresponds to time, depth, or both. A depth-of-cut (DOC), time derivative of bit aggressiveness ({dot over (?)}), calculated as d?/dt, or both, is calculated at each of the plurality of points. A two-dimensional data representation of the plurality of points, comprising ? in one dimension and DOC, {dot over (?)}, or both, in another dimension is created. Data features are extracted from the two-dimensional data representation and downhole bit dysfunction is identified by comparing the extracted data features with predefined criteria.

  • Publication number: 20150252534
Abstract: Embodiments of the present disclosure are directed to compositions of and methods for pelletized recycled asphalt shingles used in asphalt pavement. In particular, the recycled asphalt shingle pellets include a soft center with a biofuel or bio-oil diluent, and a harder, water-resistant shell coating. It is believed that by using a biofuel, such as biodiesel, more recycled asphalt shingles material may be used in the formulation of asphalt cement without compromising the performance grade of the asphalt cement.

  • Publication number: 20150205618
Abstract: To select a master controller from a plurality of controllers, a computing system may consider whether connections between components within field replaceable units (FRUs) are functional as well as the data dependencies between the FRUs. For example, in addition to identifying whether the connections between the FRUs and the controllers are functional, the computing system sends instructions to each of the FRUs coupled to the controllers to determine if inter- and intra-FRU connections required for booting a compute node hosting the FRUs are functional. For instance, one FRU may depend on data from another FRU in order to boot. If a communication link between the FRUs is non-functional, the compute node may fail to boot. The computer system uses these evaluations to determine which of the controllers to select as the master.

  • Patent number: 9069841
Abstract: An information retrieval system includes a query revision architecture that integrates multiple different query revisers, each implementing one or more query revision strategies. A revision server receives a user's query, and interfaces with the various query revisers, each of which generates one or more potential revised queries. The revision server evaluates the potential revised queries, and selects one or more of them to provide to the user. A session-based reviser suggests one or more revised queries, given a first query, by calculating an expected utility for the revised query. The expected utility is calculated as the product of a frequency of occurrence of the query pair and an increase in quality of the revised query over the first query.

  • Publication number: 20150170488
Abstract: A security device for detecting the position of a manhole cover includes a pinger device, such as an acoustic pinger, that transmits a signal in the direction of the expected position of the manhole cover. The device takes energy samples to determine if the signal has been reflected back by the manhole cover. If the device determines the signal has not been reflected, it determines that the manhole cover has been moved from the expected position. In response, the device captures an image of an area around the expected position of the manhole cover. In addition, the device can notify a remote security station via a network that the manhole cover has been moved.

In some embodiments, a circumcision device configured in accordance with the technology comprises an outer member configured to be positioned along an exterior portion of a prepuce adjacent a glans of a penis of a human patient. The outer member may include an open-ended band moveable between an unlocked position and a plurality of locked positions. The band includes circumferentially overlapping first and second ends in each of the locked positions, and defines a closed space having a different fixed diameter in each of the locked positions. The device can also include a cylindrical inner member configured to be positioned within the band of the outer member and adjacent an inner portion of the prepuce.
