  • Patent number: 5333394
Abstract: A controlled atmosphere container system for shipping and storing perishable products, wherein the container system includes a plurality of individual, transportable containers to be connected from time to time with a central source for providing a controlled atmosphere to those containers. A controller preferably enables the container system to optimally allocate the capacity of the central source of the controlled atmosphere based upon the relative atmospheric conditions of the containers attached thereto and the capacity of the source. Such control is provided in the form of a predetermined hierarchy of priorities for allocating the controlled atmosphere gas to the individual containers.

  • Patent number: 5297312
Abstract: A floor cleaning appliance having a pivotally mounted bracket for selectively tensioning an agitation motor drive belt is disclosed. The appliance includes a housing and a bracket pivotally mounted to the housing about a first axis of rotation. The bracket is supported in an operating position and a belt replacement position. An agitation member is selectively mounted to the bracket for rotation about a second axis of rotation. A drive motor is mounted in the housing having a drive shaft which rotates about a third axis of rotation. The drive belt is selectively mounted to the agitation member and the drive shaft when the bracket is mounted in the operating position. In this position the first axis of rotation lies on one side of a plane extending between the second and third axes of rotation whereas in the belt replacement position the first axis of rotation lies on the other side of the plane extending between the second and third axes of rotation.

  • Patent number: 5261685
Abstract: A bicycle wheel axle dropout member includes a body portion adapted to be joined to a wheel axle-supporting member of a bicycle and a pair of arm portions extending from the body portion and defining a slot adapted to receive a portion of the bicycle wheel axle in seated relation at the base of the slot. At least one arm portion of the dropout member has a distal part projecting outwardly with respect to the perimeter of the fastener, a hole in the distal part closely adjacent the perimeter of the fastener, and a stop member detachably received in the hole and having a stop head portion positioned abreast of the fastener such as to be engaged by the fastener if the wheel axle should unseat from the base of the slot and to thereby stop the wheel from detaching from the dropout member.

  • Patent number: 5081327
Abstract: A sealable hermetic microchip package includes a vent therein that permits gas to escape during the sealing operation, but then itself is sealed at the completion of the sealing operation to render the package hermetic. The venting of gas from the interior of the package avoids the buildup of internal pressure during the sealing operation that can introduce bubbles and other faults into the sealing material. The vent may be a channel in the sealing surface of the lid of the package that is initially open, and then fills with the seal material as it flows to effect the seal. The vent may also be a hole in the lid that is sealed by the flow of a bead of the seal material. An equivalent approach to venting provided that the lid be mounted on standoffs that flow during sealing to permit the lid to settle onto the base of the package.

  • Patent number: 5073454
Abstract: An activated carbon coated with an intumescent material which will expand at an elevated temperature and render the activated carbon resistant to oxidation. The activation carbon can be in granulated form, including pelletized, and impregnated. The intumescent material is preferably attached to about 10% of the exterior surface of the activated carbon and when exposed to a certain elevated temperature the intumescent material will expand and cover all or almost all of the exterior surface of the activated carbon thereby preventing its burning. The amount of intumescent material is not operable for causing a detrimental reduction in the adsorption capacity of the activated carbon when the coated activated carbon is at temperatures below the certain designed elevated temperature.

  • Patent number: 4977086
Abstract: Murine monoclonal antibodies specific to unique antigenic determinants on mammalian terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferases (TdT). The monoclonal antibodies specifically bind to TdT in a wide variety of mammalian cells including human, mouse, rat, rabbit and bovine origin. The monoclonal antibodies are secreted by hybridoma cell lines derived from fusion of murine plasmacytoma cells with splenocytes from mice immunized with TdT from bovine thymus cells. The monoclonal antibodies can detect small numbers of TdT-positive cells from monitoring of TdT-positive leukemias and lymphomas in multple species, including human.

  • Patent number: 4887020
Abstract: A self-excited brushless alternator having a rotating field winding excited by an alternating current exciter whose rotating armature rotates with the rotating field winding and is permanently connected to the field winding via a field rectifier also mounted to rotate with the field winding. The exciter has an exciter stator primary winding and a rotary exciter secondary winding connected via a rotray field rectifier to the rotary main field winding of the alternator. The primary excitation for the exciter is derived, via magnetic coupling, from a rotary auxiliary magnetic field produced by a feedback winding in series with the main field winding and rotating herewith. A common magnetic circuit couples the rotary feedback winding with an auxiliary stator secondary winding and the exciter primary and secondary windings.

  • Patent number: 4818686
Abstract: A chemical agent is provided for significantly preventing or blocking non-specific staining or binding of an antibody specific for Terminal deoxynucleotidyl Transferase (TdT) during immunofluorescent or immunoperoxidase assay procedures. These procedures include both immunofluorescent and immunohistochemical staining of samples followed by flow cytometric and/or microscopic analysis, respectively. The invention is practiced by selective use of casein introduced into the assay procedures at an appropriate interval prior to analysis using a labelled or tagged monoclonal antibody specific to a TdT epitope. The casein utilized successfully was obtained from a large variety of sources and includes the use of a non-fat milk product.

  • Patent number: 4758830
Abstract: A switch/display unit comprises a dot matrix display, having two sets of elongate electrodes, one set being inclined to the other, these sets being applied to opposite sides of a display medium. A transparent dielectric panel is superimposed in front of the display, so that the first set of electrodes, which are formed from a transparent conductive material abut the rear surface of the dielectric panel. A transparent conductive layer is formed in front of the dielectric panel, so that it will capacitively couple electrodes of the first set of electrodes with other electrodes of the first set of electrodes or other electrodes on the rear surface of the dielectric panel. This capacitive coupling may be varied by touching or moving the conductive layer. By applying read pulses to one of the sets of electrodes that are capacitively coupled via the conductive coating and sensing the pulses transmitted to the other electrodes, actuation of the switch can be detected.
