Publication number: 20250132363Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for operating molten carbonate fuel cells to produce increased amounts of H2 in the anode effluent while still maintaining operation of the cell within conventional operation boundaries, such as having a temperature differential between the cathode input flow and the cathode effluent of 35° C. or more, with the cathode effluent being hotter than the cathode input flow. This temperature differential between the cathode input flow and the cathode effluent while still producing excess hydrogen is achieved in part by a) passing an input flow containing hydrocarbons and/or reformable fuel into an external reformer, b) reforming 20 vol % or more of the hydrocarbons and/or reformable fuel in the external reformer prior to c) passing the partially reformed input flow into a fuel cell or fuel cell stack where additional reforming is performed in the anode(s) and/or in a reforming element in the fuel cell stack.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 17, 2024Publication date: April 24, 2025Inventors: Anastasios I. Patent number: 12258288Abstract: A biogas treatment process is integrated with a water treatment process to adjust the pH level of the water and to provide more effective disinfection of the water. A water wash process is utilized to separate methane and carbon dioxide present in the biogas. During the water wash process, the biogas is mixed with water and the carbon dioxide is absorbed into the water. Because the process typically occurs at an elevated pressure and reduced temperature to enhance the solubility of carbon dioxide in water, the water stream becomes supersaturated with carbon dioxide. This water stream, which is supersaturated with carbon dioxide, is provided to the water treatment process to adjust the pH level of the water treatment process. The pH level is regulated to a desired level such that an increased relative concentration of hypochlorous acid is produced when sodium hypochlorite is added to the treatment process.Type: GrantFiled: May 14, 2024Date of Patent: March 25, 2025Assignee: Energy Tech Innovations, LLCInventor: Bryan R. Publication number: 20250083081Abstract: Passive dehumidifiers for environmental control units (ECUs) are presented. In embodiments, the passive dehumidifier may include a plenum with an intake to receive an airflow with moisture (e.g., water droplets, water vapor, etc.) present. Upon entering the passive dehumidifier, the airflow may experience a reduction in inertia and a change from a first direction to a second direction. The directional change may be sharp enough (e.g., greater than 90 degrees) that the moisture in the airflow are not able to follow the airflow and are instead directed to impinge and be collected on a collector wall, which may include one or more hydrophilic surfaces facilitating the impinged water droplets to form a liquid film upon impact on the collector wall. The film may collapse due to gravity and may be drained out through and/or on a hydrophilic screen mesh (e.g., hydrophilic screen mesh surface) on the collector wall surface(s).Type: ApplicationFiled: September 7, 2023Publication date: March 13, 2025Applicant: Textron Innovations, Inc.Inventors: Robert Herkimer, Shahryar Fotovati, William R.
