Patent number: 6014828Abstract: A warning sign, having a vertically elongated housing mounted onto shelving with the housing extending a short distance laterally and perpendicularly from the face of the shelving, the housing preferably having advertising or other indicia positioned on opposing face members and a pocket which receives a pivoting warning arm, where the warning arm is hidden within the pocket in the vertical position but can be pivoted into an exposed horizontal position to extend laterally from the shelving to warn customers of hazardous conditions in the aisle. The sign is mounted with a hinged bracket having a non-vertical pivot axis, such that the sign will automatically resume a neutral position perpendicular to the shelving if it is pushed or pulled to either side.Type: GrantFiled: January 22, 1999Date of Patent: January 18, 2000Inventors: Bruce R. Kern, Don Ladson, Lewis G. Libby

Patent number: 5961491Abstract: A non-reusable retractable safety syringe is provided which has a hollow plunger and a seal member carried thereon. The provision of the plunger and the seal relative to the barrel permits the plunger, with sufficient strength, to carry applied pressure through the device during injection of a medicinal or other fluid into a patient, and yet permit the seal disposed at one end of the plunger to have maximum sealing integrity between the plunger and a cylindrical barrel disposed around the exterior of the plunger, to abate leakage of the liquid in a chamber within the barrel, as the plunger is manipulated from an expanded position to an expended position and thereafter to a third, or collapsed position. Designs for securing the seal relative to the plunger are disclosed. The syringe may be used to insert and/or withdraw fluid relative to the patient.Type: GrantFiled: January 12, 1998Date of Patent: October 5, 1999Inventors: R. Kern McGary, S. William Jentzen

Patent number: 5871286Abstract: A molded bearing assembly for a molded wheel includes a synthetic resin outer bearing race element embedded in the hub of the molded wheel and having a cylindrical inner sliding, journal type bearing surface. An inner bearing assembly includes two molded synthetic resin bearing halves having continuous cylindrical outer bearing surfaces disposed within the outer bearing race in sliding engagement with the inner bearing surface of the outer race. The bearing halves of the inner bearing assembly abut each other at their inner ends and may include interlocking structural features at their inner ends that enable securing of the bearing halves together at their inner ends while presenting a continuous outer cylindrical bearing sliding surface that cooperates with the adjacent surface of the outer race. A wheel axle extends through the inner bearing assembly and supports the wheel and bearing assembly for rotation relative to a wheel support.Type: GrantFiled: March 27, 1997Date of Patent: February 16, 1999Assignee: Rehrig International, Inc.Inventors: Alan R. Patent number: 5865448Abstract: A plastic basket of a nestable shopping cart is integrally formed with support projections at upper inner edge portions of the side panels thereof at a position spaced rearward of a front panel. The support projections are adapted to support a pivoting rear gate member of a similarly constructed cart such that, when the two carts are nested, the rear gate panel abuts and is supported by the support projections in order to prevent the rear gate panel from dropping down into the plastic basket during cart nesting.Type: GrantFiled: December 15, 1995Date of Patent: February 2, 1999Assignee: Rehrig International, Inc.Inventors: Alan R. Kern, Thomas Vineyard Hammack, John A. LaFleur

Patent number: 5777456Abstract: A charging/discharging apparatus uses constant charging current and constant discharging current to reduce the possibility of building memory in the cells of a battery. Memory reduces battery capacity and eventual failure will result since the cells will refuse to take any charge. A charger circuit includes a current source receiving supply voltage to couple constant charging current to the battery and an amplifier is coupled to receive reference voltage from a source and feedback voltage from the battery to connect supply voltage to the current source when the reference voltage is greater than the feedback voltage. A discharger circuit utilizes a current sink receiving supply voltage to couple constant discharging current to the battery. An amplifier receives reference voltage from a source and feedback voltage from the battery to connect supply voltage to the current sink when the reference voltage is less than the feedback voltage.Type: GrantFiled: September 30, 1996Date of Patent: July 7, 1998Inventor: Lynn R. Patent number: 5718441Abstract: A transport and display cart is formed of light weight plastic and metal components including a base unit formed from an open framework in which is disposed and fastened a molded plastic tray. Wheels preferably including casters are provided on the underside of the base unit and opposed ladder units having horizontal bars or rungs are removably connected to opposed ends of the base unit by fitting within post supports rigidly connected to the base unit. Upper shelves include plastic trays that are constructed identical to the tray connected to the base unit and reinforcing rods having downwardly open jaws or hooks at their opposed ends for engaging the horizontal rungs or bars of the opposed ladder units. The upper shelves can be selectively disposed in horizontal or tilted positions simply by hooking the ends of the reinforcing rods over different rungs of the ladder units.Type: GrantFiled: December 18, 1995Date of Patent: February 17, 1998Assignee: Rehrig International, Inc.Inventors: Alan R. Kern, John A. LaFleur, Bradley Dean Miller, Scottlan R. Henry

Patent number: 5556118Abstract: A flat bed cart includes a molded resin load carrying bed having longitudinally spaced ends, a generally planar upper side and a bottom side that includes a plurality of ribs, a pair of spaced, longitudinally extending slots and first, second and third sets of integrally molded fastener mounted pads that are located adjacent the first and second ends of the bed and intermediate the ends respectively. The slots receive a pair of longitudinally extending reinforcing bars that carry at their ends upright handle receiving mounts. The handle receiving mounts include members arranged in recesses spaced about the periphery of the bed at the first and second ends thereof. At least one handle is provided which is adapted to be selectively positioned within a respective pair of the upstanding handle receiving mounts.Type: GrantFiled: January 5, 1995Date of Patent: September 17, 1996Assignee: Rehrig International, Inc.Inventors: Alan R. Kern, John A. LaFleur, George Hand, Bruce Ferris

Patent number: 5493170Abstract: A reflector lamp having a lens of vitreous material fused to a reflector body of vitreous material. An inner reflector surface of the reflector body includes a reflective coating having a first coating portion extending from the rim of the reflector body and a second coating portion extending from a location spaced from the rim towards a basal end of the reflector body. The second coating portion is a layer of silver and the first coating portion is a layer of material other than silver, such as aluminum, having a higher resistance to damage by high heat in the rim area during fusing of the lens to the reflector body. Higher efficacies are achieved with the silver layer spaced from the rim than with silver covering the entire reflector surface.Type: GrantFiled: September 9, 1994Date of Patent: February 20, 1996Assignee: Philips Electronics North America CorporationInventors: Jack R.
