  • Patent number: 5409245
Abstract: A platform type hand cart includes a molded resin load carrying bed that is universally adaptable for both nesting and non-nesting cart configurations. The cart bed is slightly tapered from its rearward end to its forward end to enhance nestability, has a downwardly and forwardly sloping rear edge to further enhance nestability and includes various groups of mounting pads integrally molded into the underside of the bed for receiving fasteners used to secure wheel assemblies, a hinge assembly and a bumper assembly. Integrally molded reinforcing rod receiving pads may also be integrally molded into the underside of the bed for receiving structural reinforcing rods to stiffen the bed against deflection under load. By providing a single bed member with all of the various mounting pads required for nesting and non-nesting cart configurations, economies are achieved by permitting use of a single mold to produce a single bed adaptable for nesting and non-nesting cart applications.

  • Patent number: 5201134
Abstract: An advertisement card display assembly particularly suitable for walls of plastic shopping carts. The assembly includes a rectangular backing plate held or formed in a cart wall opening. An upright wall is formed on and about the entire perimeter of the plate. Inwardly disposed tabs are formed on top of the wall on three of the four sides define slots. Display cards can be inserted from the fourth side into the slots and into a display position against the backing plate. The tabs retain the card in the display position. Keeper ribs on the backing plate at the fourth side prevent the card from slipping out of the display position but do not prevent the removal therefrom by being lifted slightly and slid back out the slots. The entire assembly is injection molded as one piece with the basket wall. Mold inserts form the slots and tabs.

  • Patent number: 5053010
Abstract: An improved safety syringe with retractable needle is provided which allows retraction of the needle into a hollow plunger by additional forward pressure on the plunger after the fluid is driven from the syringe. The present invention contemplates an improved syringe device with retractable needle, and a method of delivering fluid to a patient and retracting the needle within the syringe after the fluid is delivered. The syringe preferably includes a hollow plunger inserted into one end of a cylindrical barrel and a hollow needle attached to the other end of the barrel. Biasing means is attached to the barrel for biasing the needle toward the hollow plunger, and means is provided for releasing the needle into the hollow plunger by applying additional forward pressure upon the plunger after the plunger is fully extended into the barrel. The present invention is particularly convenient for the operator to use in a one-handed fashion and is relatively uncomplicated and easy to manufacture.

  • Patent number: 4509549
Abstract: A hydraulically actuated fast action gate valve for gating highly viscous uids in a salt water environment includes front and back plates having openings for connection to conduits containing the viscous fluid and a center plate having a slot for receiving a slidable gate that includes an optional check valve. A gate is positioned within the slot and includes upper and lower grooves that provide rapid equalization of pressure of the viscous fluid between the opposite ends of the gate when the gate is rapidly actuated. One end of the gate is connected by a locking pin to an actuating rod that is driven by a hydraulic cylinder that is mounted external to the valve. The front and back plates have opposing passages allowing the actuating rod to be secured to the gate so that the hydraulic cylinder may be removed. An optional opening is provided in the back plate to permit the introduction of a non-gated fluid into piping contained within the inlet conduit.
