Publication number: 20130274599Abstract: A sensor device for detecting a change in fluid level within body tissue comprising a housing with bridge segments connecting at intersections arranged to circumscribe an opening. Further, antenna elements are partially seated within the housing at intersections of bridge segments, comprise a generally planar antenna mounted to a substrate material at a base of the planar antenna, and an electrical shield surrounding the substrate. Also, an outer surface of the planar antenna faces away from the substrate. The antenna elements comprise at least first and second antenna element pairs having transmitting and receiving antenna elements and a bridging segment. A high sensitivity zone is formed between the transmitting antenna and receiving antenna. The antenna element pairs are spaced to create an area of reduced sensitivity between the high sensitivity zones, and the space is set so that the sensor is insensitive to fluid changes of a predetermined volume.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 14, 2012Publication date: October 17, 2013Inventors: Chad E. BOUTON, Felicia R. RUGGERI, R. Reade HARPHAM, Jeffrey R. HELD

Publication number: 20130071944Abstract: An article of manufacture embodiment comprises a sample cartridge including a sample substrate, and an enclosure including a sample ingress port. The enclosure mates with the sample cartridge to define a sample container containing the sample substrate which is accessible in the sample container via the sample ingress port. The sample cartridge including the sample substrate is removable from the sample container. A sampling method embodiment comprises disposing a sample on a sample substrate in a sample container and removing a sample cartridge including the sample substrate from the sample container. An article of manufacture embodiment comprises a sample substrate, a sample container containing the sample substrate and including a sample ingress port providing access to the sample substrate in the sample container, and a sample cartridge including the sample substrate. The sample cartridge including the sample substrate is removable as a unit from the sample container.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 4, 2010Publication date: March 21, 2013Applicant: BATTELLE MEMORIAL INSTITUTEInventors: M. Patent number: 8235949Abstract: An application or an attachment device for attaching a medical device includes a base layer and an adhesive layer on a rearward side of the base layer. The adhesive layer is adapted to removably attach the base layer. The adhesive layer can be adapted to removably attach the base layer to a patient (either a human patient or a lower animal patient). The device also includes a medical device attachment mechanism on a forward side of the base layer, The attachment mechanism is adapted to attach the medical device to the base layer. The medical device can, for example, be a sensor. The medical device attachment mechanism can, for example, include a mechanical attachment mechanism. The medical device attachment mechanism can additionally or alternatively include at least one adhesive layer on the base layer. The adhesive layer can, for example, be positioned on the base layer so that it does not extend beyond a footprint of the medical device when the medical device is attached to the base layer.Type: GrantFiled: September 9, 2005Date of Patent: August 7, 2012Assignee: Medrad, Inc.Inventors: Dennis P. Publication number: 20120080540Abstract: A cartridge for a handheld electrohydrodynamic (EHD) spraying device. The cartridge is disposable, and can contain therapeutic products. The device includes a wetted lead screw with a compliant seal, where the placement of the seal relative to the screw inhibits leakage during both cartridge use and storage. A frame disposed within the cartridge acts as a load-transferring mechanism for the weight of the cartridge to a handle of the spraying device.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 7, 2011Publication date: April 5, 2012Applicant: Battelle Memorial InstituteInventors: James J. Lind, Gregory Trees, Joseph E. Zambanini, Brian Graham, R. Reade Harpham
