  • Publication number: 20120002910
Abstract: A thrust ring for an undercarriage in a track-type machine includes an annular body having an outer circular edge and an inner circular edge defining a common center axis. A first set of oil grooves and a first set of thrust faces are positioned in an alternating arrangement on each of a first axial side and a second axial side of the annular body. Each of the oil grooves includes a cross sectional contour shaped to balance an oil flow property of the thrust ring with a strength property of the thrust ring, and defining a non-uniform curve which includes a plurality of curve segments each having a different radial attribute. The thrust ring defines a Plouzek value equal to 1.

  • Patent number: 8088093
Abstract: A tampon assembly used for penetration injuries to provide hemostasis and simultaneous broad spectrum antibiotic/anesthetic application. The tampon includes a helically-wound absorbent member impregnated with coagulant, covered with biodegradable or plastic accordion-pleated sheath including a bioluminescent tape outer marker. The device would also contain a measured dose of antibiotic/anesthetic suspension sealed within the confines of the outer sheath. The outer sheath would preferably have a perforated petal-shaped tip to enable wound insertion followed by through passage of the contained wound packing and treatment liquids/emulsions, etc. A radio opaque cotton withdrawal string would attach to the absorbent member at the end facing the wound opening. An insertion stick/plunger is used for tampon deposition within the wound. Manual pressure on the plunger would cause seal rupture and expulsion of the wound packing and treatment through the ruptured tip of the sheath.

  • Patent number: 8017829
Abstract: This invention relates to a method of biocatalytically producing compounds that are commercially valuable but are detrimental to the host cells' development. The transgenic plants produced in accordance with the present invention comprise a novel controlled expression system comprising a promoter (2), a blocking sequence (a), and a structural gene (6), wherein the blocking sequence (a) is flanked by a pair of directly repeated site-specific recombination sequences (4). The blocking sequence (a) prevents expression of the structural gene (6) until removal of the blocking sequence (a) by site-specific recombinase activity encoded by a site-specific recombinase gene (12).

  • Patent number: 7996145
Abstract: There is provided a control scheme for restarting an internal combustion engine of a hybrid powertrain during ongoing vehicle operation. The method includes generating a torque output from an electrical machine to rotate the engine, and determining an engine crank torque. The torque output from the electrical machine is selectively controlled based upon the engine crank torque. The engine is fired when rotational speed of the engine exceeds a threshold. An engine torque simulation model accurately determines engine compression pressures in real-time to accommodate changes in engine operating conditions, based upon present engine operating conditions.

  • Patent number: 7974991
Abstract: A word processor including a native XML file format is provided. The well formed XML file fully represents the word-processor document, and fully supports 100% of word-processor's rich formatting. There are no feature losses when saving the word-processor documents as XML. A published XSD file defines all the rules behind the word-processor's XML file format. Hints may be provided within the XML associated files providing applications that understand XML a shortcut to understanding some of the features provided by the word-processor. The word-processing document is stored in a single XML file. Additionally, manipulation of word-processing documents may be done on computing devices that do not include the word-processor itself.

  • Patent number: 7907150
Abstract: A method of presenting multiple image sources of approximately registered images so that the mind can easily fuse the multiple images into one image. Improvement to fusing can be achieved by alternating views between sources at 85 hertz or more. The insertion of a black frame between the succession of frames optimizes the neurological functions of the human optical system (produces retinal decay) such that the perception of a useful fused image is greatly enhanced. Stereographic fusion can also be achieved to allow for fusion of loosely registered datasets.

  • Patent number: 7835841
Abstract: A control system for a hybrid powertrain which determines engine crank angle position based upon signal inputs from electric machines of the powertrain is provided. The hybrid powertrain comprises an internal combustion engine and electric machines and an electro-mechanical transmission selectively operative to transmit torque therebetween. The electric machines are rotatably fixedly coupled to the internal combustion engine via a transmission input shaft. Control modules are adapted to execute a control scheme to determine engine crank angle position. The control scheme comprises code to determine an input shaft angle based upon rotational positions of the electric machines. An offset angle of the input shaft and an angular twist between the engine and the transmission are determined. An engine crank angle offset is determined based upon the offset angle and the angular twist of the input shaft.

  • Publication number: 20100269489
Abstract: A temperature control system comprises a temperature determination module, a temperature correction module, a temperature control module, and an updating module. The temperature determination module determines a desired outlet temperature for an oxidation catalyst (OC) that is located upstream of a particulate filter (PF) in an exhaust system. The temperature correction module determines a temperature correction from a plurality of temperature corrections. The temperature control module controls an outlet temperature of the OC based on the desired outlet temperature and the temperature correction. The updating module selectively updates at least one of the plurality of temperature corrections when an engine speed and an engine load are within respective predetermined ranges.
