    Abstract: An outdoor park grill of superior strength and resistance to wear, vandalism and deformation stress which is comprised of a firebox, and a grate which covers the firebox which is wholly adjustable. The adjustability of the grate is provided by attachment of the grate to a pair of spaced apart vertically oriented grate posts attached to the bottom of the firebox and extending upwardly out of the box and looping around to engage the back wall of the firebox. The grate extends over the firebox and is defined by a pair of spaced apart grate sidebars and front and rear bars extending between the side bars and a plurality of rack bars, with the grate bars having a front handle portion and a rear eyelet which slidably engages the grate posts and also dwells in a different plane than the rack bars to provide a combination of compression and tension in a truss-like arrangement when downward pressure is placed on the grate handles.

    Abstract: An improved animal caging system of the type having a plurality of hollow boxes suspended on flanges from a plurality of ducted shelves is provided. The ducting for the ventilation system is entirely enclosed and is formed integrally with the caging system rack. A sliding valve member mounted in each lid is biased to seal air openings to the cage upon removal from the rack, a protrusion contacting the rack to uncover the air openings upon cage insertion. Similar valves are optionally placed in the rack to maintain balanced airflow when a cage is removed. The system minimizes the possibility of cross-infection between occupants of different cages, and between people and cage occupants.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus for repairing or relining an underground pipeline without having to excavate the pipe is enabled by attaching an expandable sealing unit to the end of a predetermined length of flexible tubing and feeding it through the pipeline. The flexible tubing is fed through the existing pipeline from a point beyond where the existing pipeline exits the earth, usually within the basement of a building. Once positioned in the desired location, the expandable sealing unit is expanded to form a tight seal at the desired location within the pipe by means of heating the expandable sealing unit by a heating unit connected to the source of energy through electrical conductors which pass through the flexible tubing.

    Abstract: A novel cut pile fabric (10) and a method of making same is disclosed. The cut pile fabric (10) includes a needled non-woven batt (14) of staple fibers (12) that is processed on a texturizing needle loom (17) from one surface (20) (called a back surface) thereof to form texturized loops (18) on the other surface (22) (called a face surface) of said batt (14). The non-textured back surface (20) of the batt (14) has a backing (24) applied thereto which may be of latex, or the like, with the texturized loops (18) being tigered by a tigering roll (28) to cut, break or fracture a high percentage of the loops. The tigered pile is polished by a polishing roll (34) to remove the crimps in the fibers and to orient the fibers in a direction transverse to the batt (14) prior to being sheared in a shear (36). A dense, plush cut pile fabric is produced.

    Abstract: A novel cut pile fabric (110) and a method of making same is disclosed. The cut pile fabric (110) includes a needled non-woven batt (14) of staple fibers (12) that has a carrier member (60) which may be a separate sheet of material carried by a face surface (22) of the batt. A texturized surface is formed using a texturizing needle loom (17) which punches through the batt (14) from the one surface (20) (called the back surface) of the batt (14) so that texturized loops (70) project from the carrier (60) on the other face surface (22) of the batt. The one non-texturized back surface (20) of the batt (14) has a backing (24) applied thereto as by latexing, fusing, or the like, with the texturized loops (70) being tigered to break, fracture or cut a high percentage of the loops (70). The tigered pile is polished by a polishing roll (34) to remove the crimps in the fibers and to orient the fibers in a direction substantially perpendicular to the batt prior to being sheared in a shear (36).

    Abstract: A fabric (10), for a wall covering or the like, is provided which has a needled non-woven batt (16) of staple fibers (12), to a front surface or one face (18) of which a cloth or film of woven, knitted fabric or extruded film (22) is attached, as by needle punching fibers (12) from the batt, or the like. Groups of staple fibers are punched from the batt through the cloth or film (22) to produce a distinctive pattern of clustered loops (34) of non-woven fibers having a visual background of cloth or film (22). The back surface (20) of the non-woven batt may optionally be backed (40) as by fusing, latexing, or the like. A novel method of making a fabric is provided and comprises needling (15) the non-woven batt, attaching the cloth or film (22) to the batt, needling clustered loops (34,35) from the non-woven fibers of the batt through the cloth or film (22) to define a pattern of loops with the cloth or film ( 22) visible between the clustered loops, and optionally backing the non-woven batt.

    Abstract: A bioluminescent assay for ATP in water borne bacteria is made by adding nitric acid to a water sample with concentrated bacteria to rupture the bacterial cells. The sample is diluted with sterile, deionized water, then mixed with a luciferase-luciferin mixture and the resulting light output of the bioluminescent reaction is measured and correlated with bacteria present. A standard and a blank also are processed so that the light output can be correlated to bacteria in the sample and system "noise" can be substracted from the readings.A chemiluminescent assay for iron porphyrins in water borne bacteria is made by adding luminol reagent to a water sample with concentrated bacteria and measuring the resulting light output of the chemiluminescent reaction. The light output is correlated with bacteria present. A standard and a blank are also processed so that the light output can be correlated to bacteria in the sample and system "noise" can be subtracted from the readings.

    Abstract: An improved animal caging system of the type having a plurality of ventilated cages suspended on flanges from a plurality of shelves is provided. The ventilation duct system is entirely enclosed and forms an integral part of the caging system rack. Valves mounted in the air ducts or inlets on the cages, for controlling airflow to and from cages, and an arrangement for a tight fit between the cages and the ducts minimize the possibility of cross-infection between occupants of different cages, and between people and cage occupants. The valves are actuated upon insertion of the cage into the rack, whereby the cages and/or air ducts are sealed upon withdrawal. A negatively pressurized isolation box, adapted to interface with the cage rack, permits manipulation and servicing of cages and occupants, resulting in a contagion-safe total system.

    Abstract: A floor covering is provided which has a woven fabric needle punched to a face surface of a non-woven batt of staple fibers. The woven fabric has either warps of polypropylene ribbons and fillings of continuous filaments, ribbon yarns, or spun staple fibers or vice versa. The needle punching forms a covering layer of fibers on the facing surface of the woven fabric. In one form of the invention, the needled batt and woven fabric is texturized from the batt side of the woven fabric which forms loops outwardly of the plane of the woven fabric which loops include fibers from the non-woven batt and varying amounts of filaments, ribbon yarns, or spun staple fibers from the woven fabric. A back is affixed to the batt as by fusing, latexing, foaming, needling, or the like. In another form of the invention, the needled batt and woven fabric are texturized from the woven fabric side of the batt which forms loops outwardly of the plane of the batt.

In a first embodiment the channel region is further defined by the upper surface of the semiconductor substrate, and in second and third embodiments the channel region is further defined by a V-groove and by a U-groove, respectively, formed in the substrate. A gate electrode separated from the surface of the semiconductor substrate by a thin insulating layer is disposed over the channel region. A storage node, preferably an N+ diffusion region, is located within the substrate adjacent to the high threshold section of the channel region.

    Abstract: A system for preventing injury to a motorcyclist in the event of a crash employs a rigid framework surrounding the upper body of the cyclist and inflatable air bags which both surround the cyclist with the ballooning air cushion and also serve to draw the cyclist's legs upwardly to prevent injury during the crash. A rigid body shell may be employed to encase the torso of the cyclist, or a space frame formed of a plurality of rigid elements may be utilized to protect the cyclist in the crash. A specialized seat can be employed which serves to eject the cyclist from the cycle when a crash is either imminent or is actually occurring.
