  • Patent number: 9805363
Abstract: Leveraging the wealth of information available on-line to accelerate and facilitate commercial transactions initiated by viewers of television programming, both during conventional programming and while using interactive features such as shopping channels, application channels, executing downloaded applications, and the like, for reducing the amount and frequency of user input required by accelerating and simplifying the process of accessing stored profiles and payment methods in these transactions, and by reducing user efforts in maintaining their on-line presence without compromising user security, is described. The motivation for such simplification derives from concerns apparent in emerging t-commerce transactions, where the means by which viewers may engage in two-way transactions directly in the context of the television programming are different and frequently more constrained than in traditional e-commerce and m-commerce modes.

  • Publication number: 20170269025
Abstract: Fuel cell gas sensors using an aperture in a fuel cell gas sensor that allows for determination of a gas proportion in a sample that includes more gas than could otherwise be safely sampled. The aperture is adjustable between an open and a closed state. The amount of the gas of interest exposed to the fuel cell may be adjusted by adjusting the amount of time that the aperture is in the open state. Alternatively, the amount of the gas of interest exposed to the fuel cell may be adjusted by adjusting the size of the aperture.

  • Publication number: 20170197854
Abstract: A water treatment and filtration apparatus includes an enclosed water treatment tank. The water treatment tank includes an upper area with an air pocket and a lower area including filter media. A tube extends in the tank between the upper and lower areas and includes a tube opening in the upper area. A fluid control valve is operative to receive untreated water including oxidizable contaminants. The valve is selectively operative to cause untreated water to be passed through the tube and into the air pocket where the contaminants undergo oxidation. The water is filtered through the media in the tank and passed through the valve which delivers filtered water therefrom. The valve is also selectively operative to enable backflushing of the filter media, air to be released from the upper area of the tank, and air and disinfectant to be introduced into the tank.

  • Patent number: 9567143
Abstract: A tamper-evident closure (110) for containers includes a closure shell (112) having a top surface (118) and a depending skirt (120). The top surface defines a first aperture (124) therethrough and a frangible portion (122). The skirt defines an open lower end (20a) for engaging a container. A tamper-evident tearable member (114) overlies the top surface of the closure shell and defines a second aperture (126) overlying the first aperture. A removable closure cap (116) overlies the top surface of the closure shell and the tearable member. The closure cap has an annular ring (132) projecting downwardly from an under-side of the closure cap and extending through the first and second apertures. The annular ring attaches to an underside of the frangible portion. At least partial removal of the closure cap from the top surface of the closure shell peels the frangible portion away from the top surface of the closure shell along the scoring, and tears the tamper-evident member.

  • Patent number: 9546936
Abstract: In a method for processing biological materials for flow cytometry evaluation for virus particles, a mixture including biological material and purification particles is centrifuged to prepare a centrifuged composition including a supernatant that may be further processed prior to the flow cytometry evaluation. The purification particles include porous cores functionalized to capture smaller-size impurities in a biological material sample and a porous size-exclusion shell surrounding the core to exclude larger-size components of the biological material from entering into the core. Multiple samples may be processed in multi-sample processing units. A product may contain a sealed container with the unit quantity of purification particle in a storage liquid and a kit may include such a sealed container and a centrifugal filter.
