Publication number: 20120047238Abstract: A microbrowser such as web-enabled wireless telephones and personal digital assistants allows a user to configure types of objects to be blocked from download including object memory consumption, display area, download time, and restrictions on animated images and executable scripts. Microbrowser state conditions such as battery level and network connection mode are considered when providing said limitations such that more restrictions may be placed during low battery periods to maximize battery life. For example, during low battery conditions or analog connection mode, a user may configure an enhanced microbrowser not to download advertisements, run scripts or animated objects in order to maximize remaining battery life. In another example, a user may configure an enhanced microbrowser to block the download of objects containing audio, or which will occupy more than a certain percentage of the available display area.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 27, 2011Publication date: February 23, 2012Applicant: INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATIONInventors: Janani Janakiraman, Rabindranath Dutta

Patent number: 8117532Abstract: A method for presenting a page, having a set of links, on a data processing system is provided. The page is preprocessed to form a processed page, wherein the processed page is unpresented within the data processing system. A determination is made as to whether or not the links within the page fall within a proximity policy. Responsive to a determination that the page falls outside of the proximity policy, the page is reformatted to fall within the proximity policy. The mechanism of the present invention includes a preprocessing process and a policy structure for reformatting an electronic document page. The policy structure of the present invention allows the user to specify the appearance of the electronic document page. The policy structure as defined by the user is stored such that when the user returns to the page, the page may be displayed according to the policy structure defined by the user.Type: GrantFiled: January 26, 2009Date of Patent: February 14, 2012Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Rabindranath Dutta, Karthikeyan Ramamoorthy

Patent number: 8112705Abstract: A web browser magnifies the content of the whole page in memory and displays the relevant portion in a magnifier with hyperlinks. The web browser then maps the magnified display to the original document. Thus, manipulation of the mouse in the magnified display may result in an action with respect to the original document. The user may then select a link for navigation within the magnified display. Alternatively, the web browser may analyze the original web page and construct magnifier contents on the basis of either the document object model, extensible markup language (XML), or hypertext markup language (HTML) representation of the magnified portion.Type: GrantFiled: July 28, 2008Date of Patent: February 7, 2012Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Don Rutledge Day, Rabindranath Dutta

Patent number: 8103552Abstract: A microbrowser allows a user to configure types of objects to be blocked from download by providing a web page content web server with a set of non-advertisement web objects for a web page, the web page containing at least one inclusion method to one or more advertisement objects stored on an advertisement server separate from the non-advertisement web objects; receiving by the web server a battery condition and a nape request for the web page from a networked client device; and responsive to the battery condition being low, transmitting the non-advertisement web objects from the web page content web server to the networked client device, thereby avoiding incremental battery energy consumption of the networked client device to process, execute and display the advertisement web objects by restricting download of the advertisement web objects from the advertisement server to the networked client device.Type: GrantFiled: January 9, 2009Date of Patent: January 24, 2012Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Janani Janakiraman, Rabindranath Dutta

Patent number: 8086246Abstract: Provided are a system, program, and data structures for providing user location information with a personal information manager program. Position coordinates of a wireless device associated with a user are generated, along with time information indicating a time when the position coordinates were generated. The position coordinates and time information are processed to determine geographic locations and associated time periods. For each determined geographical location and associated time period, the user of the wireless device was located at the geographical location for the associated time period. A request is received for information on the user for a selected time interval. A determination is then made of time periods associated with geographic locations that are within the selected time interval. Information is then generated on the geographic locations and associated time periods that are within the selected time interval.Type: GrantFiled: January 25, 2008Date of Patent: December 27, 2011Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Michael Wayne Brown, Rabindranath Dutta, Michael A. Patent number: 8055776Abstract: A system, method, and computer program product which allows a user to view and navigate reduced-content web pages on a wireless connection. Upon the user's selection of specific web pages, the pages are then delivered to the user by a less expensive connection, as in a conventional wired internet connection. The delivery is accomplished by several methods, according to different embodiments, including by an electronic mail message, by “push” delivery to an internet-connected data processing system, and by providing a set of hyperlinks to the wired internet connection which reference the selected pages, among other methods. The user is thereby able to view, on a second internet-connected data processing system, the data selected when using the wireless internet-connected data processing system.Type: GrantFiled: April 5, 2000Date of Patent: November 8, 2011Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventor: Rabindranath Dutta

Patent number: 7922494Abstract: An apparatus, system, and method for monitoring test question response time from a remote location are provided. More specifically, the present invention provides a mechanism by which tests may be proctored to users from a remote location as a test administration service and providing alert notifications to the users based on the amount of time that has elapsed during the test taking process as well as the amount of time remaining to take the test. With the present invention, test progress data is obtained from the user and forwarded to a proctor workstation. A proctor device may monitor the user's test progress to determine if expected progress on the test is being attained. The testing progress data may be recorded along with test input data from the user's client device for later use. Moreover, the administering of the test may be done by a third party as a test administration service to which a test developer may subscribe.Type: GrantFiled: August 28, 2001Date of Patent: April 12, 2011Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Dwip N. Patent number: 7890358Abstract: Accessibility insurance coverage management is provided. An insurance server receives a coverage request from a requester that includes a user identifier corresponding to a user (i.e. policyholder). The insurance server matches the user identifier with a stored policyholder identifier and retrieves accessibility data corresponding to the matched policyholder identifier. If required, the insurance server updates the policyholder's accessibility data by receiving accessibility data from an accessibility database server. The insurance server identifies the policyholder's coverage using the user's accessibility data along with the user's policy information. The insurance server sends a message to the requester which indicates an amount of the particular item corresponding to the coverage request the insurance server covers. The insurance server receives accessibility service bills on a frequent basis, such as monthly.Type: GrantFiled: August 20, 2008Date of Patent: February 15, 2011Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Rabindranath Dutta, John C.
