  • Patent number: 7389422
Abstract: A mechanism is provided for augmenting the mail header of a message with a list of digital signatures representing the chain of contributors to the message. The augmented header may also encode the actual contributions corresponding to each digital signature. The list is appended every time a message is forwarded. If a message has a portion with no corresponding digital signature or if one or more of the digital signatures is not trusted, the user may handle the message accordingly. Furthermore, a mail server or client may discard a message if the number of digital signatures exceeds a threshold to filter out unwanted messages, such as e-mail chain letters.

  • Patent number: 7376623
Abstract: A system and method for accessibility content copyright permission is presented. A copyright server receives a copyright request from a requestor, such as a portal server. The copyright request corresponds to a user requesting a particular content to be transcoded. The copyright server identifies content copyright permissions associated with the requested content that indicate whether it is permissible to transcode the requested content. If the copyright server does not locate content copyright permissions associated with the requested content, the copyright server identifies the owner of the content and sends a message to the content owner requesting content copyright permission. The copyright server receives a response from the content owner, stores the response on a local storage area, and forwards the response to the requestor. The content copyright permissions may include an amount of a transcoding fee that the content owner requires in order to transcode the requested content.

  • Publication number: 20080113673
Abstract: Provided are a system, program, and data structures for providing user location information with a personal information manager program. Position coordinates of a wireless device associated with a user are generated, along with time information indicating a time when the position coordinates were generated. The position coordinates and time information are processed to determine geographic locations and associated time periods. For each determined geographical location and associated time period, the user of the wireless device was located at the geographical location for the associated time period. A request is received for information on the user for a selected time interval. A determination is then made of time periods associated with geographic locations that are within the selected time interval. Information is then generated on the geographic locations and associated time periods that are within the selected time interval.

  • Publication number: 20080109355
Abstract: A method, apparatus and computer implemented instructions for processing a bill in an automatic teller machine. The bill is scanned to form a bill image in which the bill includes a markup language providing payment information. Optical character recognition is performed on the bill image to identify the payment information. The bill is processed using the payment information. Bills, such as water bills, mortgages, credit card statements, and tax bills may be made in this manner.

  • Patent number: 7363277
Abstract: Signature analysis of streamed download data narrows a list of likely candidates after a search engine search has been performed. “Streamed download” means that the data is brought byte by byte to the searcher's computer and then discarded. During the streaming process the subject data, in binary form, is parsed into segments and each segment is provided with a signature based on the content of the segment. The signatures of the individual segments are then compared to signatures of the material that may have been infringed. If there are no matches, the streamed download data is discarded. If there are enough matches of the signatures, the offending data is displayed for visual inspection. Only caching and display takes place if a potential infringing segment is discovered.

  • Patent number: 7340691
Abstract: Provided is a method, system, and program for accessing calendar information of users in a database for presentation by a personal information manager. Scheduled event records for users are maintained within the database. Further maintained in the database is information on a current location of wireless devices of users in the database, wherein one user is associated with each wireless device. • Publication number: 20080010158
Abstract: A microbrowser such as web-enabled wireless telephones and personal digital assistants allows a user to configure types of objects to be blocked from download including object memory consumption, display area, download time, and restrictions on animated images and executable scripts. Microbrowser state conditions such as battery level and network connection mode are considered when providing said limitations such that more restrictions may be placed during low battery periods to maximize battery life. For example, during low battery conditions or analog connection mode, a user may configure an enhanced microbrowser not to download advertisements, run scripts or animated objects in order to maximize remaining battery life. In another example, a user may configure an enhanced microbrowser to block the download of objects containing audio, or which will occupy more than a certain percentage of the available display area.

  • Patent number: 7269622
Abstract: A method, system and program is provided for watermarking messaging sessions such that the origin of recorded messaging sessions is traceable. A distinguishable watermark is applied to message entries within a messaging session. The messaging entries are then recorded with the distinguishable watermark applied, such that the origin of the message entries is traceable according to the distinguishable watermark. Users participating in the messaging session receive a recording of the watermarked message entries for the messaging session, wherein user of the recording of the messaging session is traceable according to the watermark.

  • Patent number: 7266522
Abstract: A method, apparatus, system, or computer program product facilitates trustworthy electronic commerce by providing a methodology for uniquely identifying a product offered for sale online so as to improve the trustworthiness of a purchase that was initiated electronically. A product for sale in an online auction has a unique, tamper-resistant, physical tag applied to the product, after which the product or object is photographed, either as a digital image or a traditional photograph. The image of the product is then sent to the buyer in some manner. Assuming the buyer agrees to buy the product, the buyer eventually receives the product, presumably with the physically attached, tamper-resistant, tag. The buyer then has increased confidence both before and during the exchange of the product that the product is identical to the product that was described via the image of the product.

  • Patent number: 7248872
Abstract: Provided is a method, system, and program for providing information on users of wireless devices in a database to a personal information manager of one user wireless device. Records are maintained for users of wireless devices within the database. For at least one shadowed user, a list of others users tracking the shadowed user is maintained in the database. A determination is made, for each shadowed user, whether a modification was made to one database record for the shadowed user. For each user on the list of each shadowed user, information is transmitted to the wireless device of the user on the list indicating the shadowed user and the determined modification made with respect to the database record of the shadowed user. The transmitted information is displayed at the wireless device receiving the transmitted information.

  • Patent number: 7236465
Abstract: A system and method for gathering data regarding receivers of multicast content is provided. A spanning tree is used to connect a content producer, such as a pay-per-view broadcaster, to one or more receivers over a computer network, such as the Internet. Clients that wish to join a multicast group to which content is sent join the multicast group at the client's designated multicast router. The router sends information regarding the request, such as a tally of the number of clients that have joined the group, through intermediate routers to an endpoint router as identified by the spanning tree. The content producer is able to use the information, such as the tally and demographic information, to analyze the group of receivers. In a pay-per-view setting, the tally can further be compared to the number of subscribers to determine whether illicit receivers have joined the group, whereupon appropriate action is taken.
