  • Publication number: 20130058430
Abstract: A new protocol is proposed for transmission of data through lines such as telephone lines. The tones of a signal are grouped, and Trellis encoding is performed only of the members of a group. The computational cost of coding and decoding the data is reduced (compared to treating all the tones of a given direction equivalently), and the invention makes it possible to significantly reduce the computational and memory requirements of the encoder and decoder. Furthermore, Trellis decoding errors are not propagated between the groups.

  • Patent number: 8301589
Abstract: System and method for assignment of unique identifiers in a distributed environment. In a distributed system having a plurality of nodes, a method for allocating identifiers comprises steps of: allocating a pool of identifiers for use; maintaining lists of free identifiers in the pool at participating nodes; obtaining at a first node permission to update the lists of free identifiers; upon receiving permission to update the lists, allocating for the first node a set of identifiers from the lists; updating the lists of free identifiers to reflect allocation of the set of identifiers for the first node; sending the updated lists from the first node to other participating nodes; upon receiving the updated lists of free identifiers at each other participating node, updating each other participating node's respective copy of the lists of free identifiers; and relinquishing the first node's permission to update the lists of free identifiers.

  • Patent number: 8145463
Abstract: A Gas Reservoir Evaluation and Assessment Tool utilizes an Analytical Engine to produce predictions of pressure values and other production data at any point in space and at any point in time in a reservoir. A computer system, such as a workstation, stores a Gas Reservoir Evaluation and Assessment software which includes the Analytical Engine and responds to input data (which includes a reservoir description and fluid properties) by generating an output record which represents a prediction of the pressure values and other data at ‘any point in space’ and at ‘any point in time’ in a reservoir.

  • Patent number: 8132453
Abstract: A reservoir pressure in an underground formation surrounding a well is analyzed based on a direct measurement of the pressure at the wall of the well using the permeability of mud cake on the wall of the well in the region in which the pressure measurement is made; determining the thickness of mud cake on the well of the well; determining the hydrostatic pressure in the well in the region in which the pressure measurement is made; calculating a pressure decay index from the mud cake permeability and thickness, the hydrostatic pressure and the measured pressure; and using the pressure decay index to analyze the measured pressure to derive the reservoir pressure.

  • Patent number: 8116362
Abstract: A line card is proposed in which one or more DMT processing modules 1 communicate with a data link layer platform, such as an ATM, POSPHY or Ethernet processor. The data relating to a single symbol is transmitted between the data link layer platform and a given one of DMT processing modules in a plurality of data portions spaced apart in time. The data portions relating to different channels of a given DMT processing module (or to different DMT processing modules) are interleaved in time. Since the data portions of a given symbol are spaced apart in time, the data relating to a single symbol is transmitted over a longer time period than in conventional devices which reduces the effective burstiness of the traffic, and thus reduces the memory requirements of the data link layer platform.

Abstract: A method of cleaning at least one of grime and built-up ice off a rotor blade of a wind turbine includes, in an exemplary embodiment, positioning a rotor blade in an immobile position in a downward orientation substantially parallel to the tower, positioning a tank containing a cleaning solution directly below the rotor blade, and positioning a plurality of lifting arms adjacent the tank. The plurality of lifting arms are attached to an elliptical spray head with at least one pipe connected to the elliptical spray head and to a pump operatively coupled to the tank. The method also includes raising the lifting arms to lift the elliptical spray head to a predetermined position along a longitudinal axis of the rotor blade, pumping cleaning solution from the tank to the elliptical spray head, spraying the cleaning solution onto an outer surface of the rotor blade to clean the rotor blade, and collecting the spent cleaning solution in the tank.

  • Publication number: 20110209009
Abstract: A plurality of integrated circuits in a system, each having a program memory loaded with different sections of a program, and a second memory. The integrated circuits perform the program, such that, when one of the integrated circuits requires a portion of the program, which is contained in its own program memory, it extracts it from the program memory and uses it, but when it requires a portion of the program, which is not contained in its own program memory, it reads it from the program memory of one of the other integrated circuits into its second memory and runs that portion of the program from there. In one example, the system is a line card, and the program is specific to one DSL protocol.
