  • Patent number: 10176658
Abstract: A document may include a non-magnetic substrate, a first colorant mixture printed as a first image upon the substrate, the first colorant mixture including a magnetic ink, and a second colorant mixture printed as a second image upon the substrate in substantially close spatial proximity to the printed first colorant mixture. The second colorant mixture may consist essentially of one or more non-magnetic inks and exhibit properties of both low visual contrast and high magnetic contrast against the first colorant mixture, such that the resultant printed substrate does not reveal the first image to the human eye, but will reveal the first image to a magnetic image reader.

  • Publication number: 20180278845
Abstract: A system creates an electronic file corresponding to a printed artifact by launching a video capture module that causes a mobile electronic device to capture a video of a scene that includes the printed artifact. The system analyzes image frames in the video in real time as the video is captured to identify a suitable instance. In one example, the suitable instance is a frame or sequence of frames that contain an image of a page or side of the printed artifact and that do not exhibit a page-turn event. In response to identification of the suitable instance, the system will automatically cause a photo capture module of the device to capture a still image of the printed artifact. The still image has a resolution that is higher than that of the image frames in the video. The system will save the captured still images to a computer-readable file.

  • Patent number: 10042031
Abstract: A mobile electronic device processes a sequence of images to identify and re-identify an object of interest in the sequence. An image sensor of the device, receives a sequence of images. The device detects an object in a first image as well as positional parameters of the device that correspond to the object in the first image. The device determines a range of positional parameters within which the object may appear in a field of view of the device. When the device detects that the object of interest exited the field of view it subsequently uses motion sensor data to determine that the object of interest has likely re-entered the field of view, it will analyze the current frame to confirm that the object of interest has re-entered the field of view.

  • Publication number: 20180189937
Abstract: An electronic device, method, and computer readable medium for multi-frame image processing using semantic saliency are provided. The electronic device includes a camera, a display, and a processor. The processor is coupled to the camera and the display. The processor receives a plurality of frames captured by the camera during a capture event; identifies a salient region in each of the plurality of frames; determines a reference frame from the plurality of frames based on the identified salient regions; fuses non-reference frames with the determined reference frame into a completed image output.

  • Patent number: 9881221
Abstract: Methods and systems for continuously monitoring the gaze direction of a driver of a vehicle over time. Video is received, which is captured by a camera associated with, for example, a mobile device within a vehicle, the camera and/or mobile device mounted facing the driver of the vehicle. Frames can then be extracted from the video. A facial region can then be detected, which corresponds to the face of the driver within the extracted frames. Features descriptors can then be computed from the facial region. A gaze classifier derived from the vehicle, the driver, and the camera can then be applied, wherein the gaze classifier receives the feature descriptors as inputs and outputs at least one label corresponding to one or more predefined finite number of gaze classes to identify the gaze direction of the driver of the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 9865170
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for real time dynamic triggering of a conspicuous signal for a vehicle on a path of travel. A sensor array detects environmental factors presenting a predetermined risk to the vehicle. A decision module assesses the environmental factors and the associated risks and determines if the conspicuousness signal is warranted and a type of signal to be made. An actuating module actuates the conspicuousness signal based on the determining of the decision module.

  • Patent number: 9854148
Abstract: In a system for detecting location of an object inside of a building, an image capture device of a mobile electronic device captures an image of a boundary of a room in which the portable electronic device is positioned. The system extracts features of a boundary (ceiling, wall or floor) in the image to determine whether the mobile device is in a known location. When the system identifies a known location, it will take an action that provides the portable electronic device with additional functionality at the identified known location. Such functionality may include connecting to a wireless network or communicating with a stationary device at the known location.

  • Patent number: 9805255
Abstract: A multimodal sensing system includes various devices that work together to automatically classify an action. A video camera captures a sequence of digital images. At least one other sensor device captures other sensed data (e.g., motion data). The system will extract video features from the digital images so that each extracted image feature is associated with a time period. It will extract other features from the other sensed data so that each extracted other feature is associated with a time period. The system will fuse a group of the extracted video features and a group of the extracted other features to create a fused feature representation for a time period. It will then analyze the fused feature representation to identify a class, access a data store of classes and actions to identify an action that is associated with the class, and save the identified action to a memory device.

  • Patent number: 9807269
Abstract: The embodiments include systems and methods for guiding a user to capture two flash images of a document page, and selectively fuse the images to produce a binary image of high quality and without loss of any content. Each individual image may have an FSR where the content is degraded/lost due to the flash light. The idea is to first guide the user to take two images such that there is no overlap of flash-spots in the document regions. The flash spots in both images are detected and assessed for quality and extent of degradation in both images. The image with lower degradation is chosen as the primary image and the other image as secondary, to minimize fusing artifacts. The region in secondary image corresponding to the FSR in the primary is aligned to the primary region using a multiscale alignment technique.
