Abstract: Systems and methods for detecting an analyte of interest in a sample. The system can include a first container comprising a filter portion. The filter portion can include a filter comprising a filtrand of the sample on a first side of the filter. The system can further include a second container comprising the filter portion coupled to a detection portion comprising a microstructured surface. The method can include providing the first container, coupling the filter portion to the detection portion to form the second container where the first side of the filter faces the microstructured surface, and centrifuging the second container toward the microstructured surface. The method can further include inverting the second container after centrifuging to decant the supernatant from the detection portion, such that a concentrate comprising a sediment of the sample is retained in the microstructured surface, which can be interrogated for an analyte of interest.

  • Publication number: 20140096598
Abstract: Method for detecting an analyte of interest in a sample. The method can include providing a container comprising a microstructured surface, and centrifuging the container toward the microstructured surface to form a sediment and a supernatant of the sample. Following centrifugation, the container can be inverted to decant at least a portion of the supernatant of the sample from the second portion, such that a concentrate (e.g., comprising the sediment) of the sample is retained in the microstructured surface. The concentrate can then be interrogated in the microstructured surface for the analyte of interest. In some embodiments, at least a portion of the second portion can be substantially transparent, such that the concentrate can be interrogated from the outside of the container, without requiring that the container be opened prior to interrogation.

  • Patent number: 8695069
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention provide a system that facilitates session management between a web application and a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system. During operation, the system receives, at a proxy, a service call intended for a CRM system. Next, the system modifies a header of the service call to include authentication credentials for the CRM system. The system then determines if an available session token for the CRM system exists at the proxy. If so, the system modifies the header of the service call to include the session token. Next, the system forwards the service call with the modified header to the CRM system. The system then receives a response to the service call, which includes the session token. Upon receiving the response, the system stores the session token at the proxy for a subsequent service call. Finally, the system forwards the response to the web application.

  • Publication number: 20140095826
Abstract: A datastore for a virtual machine that can be executed on a host computer networked to a physical storage system is allocated by a server. The server generates a unique identifier to associate with the datastore, wherein the unique identifier mimics a form of identifier that is generated by the physical storage system to identify volumes of physical storage in the physical storage system that are accessible to the host computer. At least one volume of physical storage in the physical storage system having physical storage available to satisfy the request to allocate the datastore is identified and the server maintains a mapping of the unique identifier to the at least one volume of physical storage and provides the mapping to the host computer upon running the virtual machine, thereby enabling the host computer to store data for the datastore in the at least one volume of physical storage.

  • Publication number: 20140089883
Abstract: A method of generating an area efficient power switch cell includes receiving, by a cell library design tool, a specification of a power switch circuit to be established as a power switch cell in a cell library. The cell library design tool also receives one or more attributes of the power switch cell including a height of the cell boundary and receiving, by the cell library design tool, a layout placement constraint requiring the power switch cell to be placed in a semiconductor layout so as to bridge two parallel rows of doped wells. The parallel rows of doped wells are interleaved with doped substrate and the doping of the wells is of a different type than that of the substrate. Based on the specification of the power switch circuit, the one or more attributes, and the layout placement constraint, the cell library design tool generates the power switch cell.

  • Publication number: 20140084688
Abstract: A method for wireless power transmission includes establishing respective wireless communication link between a coordinating transmitter and each receiver. The method further includes measuring respective mutual impedance between a coordinating transmitter and each receiver by applying a voltage to the coordinating transmitter and configuring each receiver to measure an induced current in response to the applied voltage. The method calculates respective matching impedance for the coordinating transmitter and each receiver based on corresponding mutual impedance. The method transmits the respective matching impedance to each receiver to enable each receiver to adjust to have the respective matching impedance. The method adjusts the coordinating transmitter to have the respective matching impedance.

  • Patent number: 8672472
Abstract: A contact lens (10) for use in controlling or retarding the progression of myopia in an eye has a central optical zone (20) approximating the normal diameter of the pupil of the eye (22) that gives clear central vision at distance for the wearer. An annular peripheral optical zone 24 that is substantially outside the diameter of the pupil is formed around the central optical zone (20) with greater refractive power than that of the central zone (22) so that oblique rays entering the eye through the peripheral optical zone (24) will be brought to focus at a focal plane that is substantially on or anterior to the peripheral region of the retina. Preferably, the rear surface (16) of the lens is shaped to conform to the cornea of the eye and the front surface (18) of the lens (10) is shaped to provide—in conjunction with the rear surface (16)—the desired optical properties of the central and peripheral optical zones.

  • Patent number: 8672473
Abstract: Sets, kits or stocks of anti-myopia contact or spectacle lenses, along with methods for their use, that do not require a clinician to measure peripheral refractive error in the eyes of myopic patients. Extensive surveys have shown that lenses having peripheral powers or defocus set in accordance with central corrective power will cover almost all normal myopes not worse than ?6 D central refractive error. In one example, a kit or set of lenses (50, FIG. 15) can have multiple parts or sub-sets (52, 54) each comprising a compartmented container (56a, 56b) with lenses (58a, 58b) arranged according to increments of central corrective power (59a, 59b). The lenses (58a) of the first part (52) have four steps (60a, 61a, 62a, 64a) of peripheral power or defocus to pro vide therapeutic effect and, while the lenses (58b) of the second part (54) also have four steps (60b, 61b, 62b, 64b), the level of therapeutic effect is higher.

  • Patent number: 8675761
Abstract: Methods and apparatus of allocating antennas for cyclic delay diversity (CDD) transmission are disclosed. One method includes estimating a transmission channel of a transceiver having a plurality of antennas. A subset of a plurality of transceiver antennas is selected based on the estimated transmission channel. A single transceiver antenna of the subset is identified based on a channel quality of a transmission path of the single transceiver antenna. Cyclic delay diversity (CDD) signals are transmitted from the subset of the plurality of antennas, wherein a minimally delayed CDD signal is transmitted from the identified single transceiver antenna of the subset of the plurality of transceiver antennas.

  • Patent number: 8670720
Abstract: Methods and devices for phase shifting an RF signal for a base station antenna are provided. The device includes a transmission line that has a stationary ground plane coupled to the top of a substrate and a signal line on the bottom of the substrate. The signal line has an input port and an output port. The input port receives the RF signal with a certain phase and travels across the bottom of the substrate to the output port. The RF signal has a different phase at the output port because defected ground structures etched on the stationary ground plane shift the phase of the RF signal. In addition, the device includes a movable ground plane that may cover a portion of the defected ground structures, the substrate, and the stationary ground plane such that the moveable ground plane further adjusts the phase of the RF signal.
