  • Patent number: 8655813
Abstract: Neuronal networks of electronic neurons interconnected via electronic synapses with synaptic weight normalization. The synaptic weights are based on learning rules for the neuronal network, such that a synaptic weight for a synapse determines the effect of a spiking source neuron on a target neuron connected via the synapse. Each synaptic weight is maintained within a predetermined range by performing synaptic weight normalization for neural network stability.

  • Publication number: 20140041786
Abstract: A method of making extensible web laminates comprising a multilayer film and at least one web layer and the use of such extensible web laminates in personal care articles. The method generally includes activating the multilayer film in a first direction by stretching at least a portion of the multilayer film past the elastic deformation limit of the skin layers and recovering the skin layers with the elastomeric core layer to produce a multilayer film that is elastic in the first direction. The activated multilayer film is subsequently stretched beyond the deformation limit of the skin layers in a second direction substantially perpendicular to the first direction. At least one web layer is applied to the multilayer film while in the stretched state. The multilayer film is then recovered to produce an extensible web laminate.

  • Publication number: 20140040395
Abstract: A manager program for managing virtual machines includes a process which receives a notification message indicating an occurrence of an event affecting a data storage unit in a data storage system that supports a shared file system. The notification message might have come from a virtual machine host or resulted from a hardware reconfiguration. The manager program then determines whether another virtual machine host is sharing the data storage unit. The manager program might make this determination by polling each of the virtual machine hosts it manages or by checking information previously collected and stored in a database. If another virtual machine host is sharing the data storage unit, the manager program sends a refresh message to that virtual machine host that causes the virtual machine host to update information relating to the data storage unit in a cache associated with the virtual machine host.

  • Publication number: 20140026571
Abstract: The present invention discloses a hermitically sealed solar water heater system and operation method for generation of electricity from thermal power plant. Water storage tank (1) is hermitically sealed by diaphragm (13) to prevent feed water contamination. Solar energy based water heater (2) preheats feed water and raises water temperature close to the boiling point. The feed water heater by trapping the waste heat from the exhaust gases further heats the feed water and is pumped to the boiler and where it is converted to steam. The steam impinging on the turbine blades drives it and generates power from the generator. The steam condenses in the condenser and the water coming out of condenser is pumped to the overhead water tank and the process of power generation is continues uninterruptedly.

  • Publication number: 20140022267
Abstract: A method and system for accelerating collision resolution of 3D physics engine on a reconfigurable processor allows the collision resolution module to utilize the immense parallelism available in Coarse Grained Array (CGA) of reconfigurable processor based on ADRES. The method of rescheduling and dividing the collision pairs is performed for accelerating the collision resolution. The method obtains the colliding pairs in the original order of processing from the objects that are under simulation. Then the method starts reordering the collision pairs for removing the dependency between the successive collision pairs. The independent collision pairs obtained from the original colliding pairs are grouped together. The dependent collision pairs are extracted and grouped together. The independent collision pairs are processed in CGA mode by utilizing the loop level parallelism, whereas the dependent collision pairs are processed in VLIW mode.

  • Publication number: 20140023154
Abstract: A spatial multiplexing scheduler in, for example, an eNB or other base station, determines rank n precoders for UEs. Each UE reports the preferred precoder from this set of rank n precoders. The preferred precoder results in imbalance in performance over m layers compared to the rest of (n?m) layers. The UEs also report channel quality to the eNB, from which the eNB determines which layer(s) is better for the UE. For example, when n=2 and m=1, the eNB may then select two UEs such that, for the same precoder used by the UEs, the first UE has much higher layer 1 performance than layer 2, and the second UE has much higher layer 2 performance than layer 1. These two UEs may then share the same frequency-time domain resources, with the first UE information sent/received on layer 1, while the second UE information is sent/received on layer 2.

  • Patent number: 8621412
Abstract: Techniques are disclosed for partitioning a placement of a circuit design into a plurality of regions. A constraint is generated based on the partitioning of the placement and on the sequential elements that are located within each region. The constraint is provided to one or more design tools, and the constraint forces sequential elements to fall within the same region on the next placement. Some regions can be classified as guides, and these regions act as a recommendation for a design tool instead of as an explicit rule. Other regions can be classified as inclusive, and sequential elements can be allowed to enter the region but any sequential elements already in the region must stay in the region. Further regions can be classified as exclusive, and no sequential elements may enter or leave these regions on the next placement of the circuit design.

  • Patent number: 8620154
Abstract: A visible light communication (VLC) device is provided for use in a VLC system. The VLC device detect a trigger condition indicating a failure of a VLC link associated with first allocated resources used to communicate with a second VLC device. In response to the detection, the VLC device terminates on the first allocated resources transmission of data to the second VLC device and transmits a fast link recovery (FLR) signal using the first allocated resources. The VLC device receives a fast link recovery response (FLR RSP) signal indicating the second VLC device received the FLR signal and, in response, the VLC device resumes transmission of data to the second VLC device.

  • Patent number: 8617424
Abstract: The present subject matter describes a gasification system (100) for gasifying a variety of feedstocks. A first stage gasifier (105) receives a feedstock either from a first group of feedstocks or a second group of feedstocks or both. The first stage gasifier decomposes the received feedstock to produce a first product. A second stage gasifier (115) is connected to the first stage gasifier (105) for receiving the first product. In addition, the second stage gasifier (115) receives a feedstock either from a third group of feedstocks or a fourth group of feedstocks or both. The second stage gasifier (115) gasifies the first product and the received feedstock to produce syngas.
