  • Publication number: 20210353293
Abstract: A surgical stapling device includes a tool assembly having an anvil assembly and a cartridge assembly. The anvil assembly includes a staple deforming surface and defines an elongate channel that supports a roller. The staple deforming surface defines a transverse slot. The roller supports a buttress material that can be pulled through the transverse slot to position the buttress material atop the staple forming surface.

  • Publication number: 20210353289
Abstract: A stapling device includes first and second jaws. The second jaw defines first and second threaded bores. A drive member has a distal end portion supporting a rack. An approximation drive assembly includes a first lead screw received within the first threaded bore. A second lead screw is received within the second threaded bore. A first pinion is supported on the first lead screw. A second pinion is supported on the second lead screw. Moving the drive member from the retracted position toward the advanced position advances the rack to rotate the first pinion and the second pinion, the first lead screw within the first threaded bore, and the second lead screw within the second threaded bore to move the second jaw in relation to the first jaw from an open position to a clamped position.

  • Publication number: 20210290227
Abstract: A loading unit includes a staple cartridge assembly, an anvil assembly, and an anvil buttress. The anvil assembly includes an anvil plate including a tissue facing surface having apertures defined therethrough and an anvil cover disposed over an outwardly facing surface of the anvil plate. The anvil buttress includes a body portion positioned against the tissue facing surface of the anvil plate and arms extending into the apertures of the anvil plate. The arms releasably secure the anvil buttress to the anvil plate.

  • Publication number: 20210282842
Abstract: An electrosurgical instrument includes a housing, a movable handle movable relative to the housing along an actuation path from an initial position to a grasping position to an activated position, an in-line activation switch disposed on the housing along the actuation path of the movable handle such that movement of the movable handle from the grasping position to the activated position activates the in-line activation switch, a trigger coupled the knife and movable relative to the housing from an un-actuated position to an actuated position, and a knife lockout operably associated with the movable handle and the trigger. The knife lockout is configured to inhibit actuation of the trigger from the un-actuated position to the actuated position until the movable handle reaches the activated position.

  • Publication number: 20210282766
Abstract: A surgical stitching device includes a fixed jaw, a rotating jaw, and a transfer mechanism. The rotating jaw is movable in relation to the fixed jaw between a start position and a transfer position. The transfer mechanism includes a first electromagnetic coil supported on the fixed jaw and a second electromagnetic coil supported on the rotating jaw. The first and second electromagnetic coils can be independently energized to transfer the needle between the fixed jaw and the rotating jaw.

  • Publication number: 20200337760
Abstract: A single-use surgical instrument includes a break-away assembly configured to break when first and second housing halves of a handle assembly are separated for re-processing. In particular, the break-away assembly is configured to operatively support an actuation handle thereon such that damage to the break-away assembly inhibits proper actuation of the actuation handle, thereby rendering the surgical instrument inoperable.

  • Publication number: 20200323529
Abstract: A suture device is configured to form a purse string suture in procedures such as, e.g., transanal total mesorectal excision (TaTME), for removal of low rectal and ultra-low rectal tumors and preservation of anal sphincters to avoid permanent stomas. The suture device may provide uniform needle rotation, tissue penetration, and/or suture advancement independent of the skill of the clinician. The suture device includes a plurality of needles operatively associated with a needle driver such that rotation of the needle driver transitions the plurality of needles between a retracted position, in which, the plurality of needles extends radially inward, and an extended position, in which, the plurality of needles rotates to extend radially outward to engage and pierce through tissue to form a purse string suture.
