  • Publication number: 20090262702
Abstract: Some embodiments are implemented in a communication system that includes a first communication system comprised of a licensed wireless radio access network and a core network, and a second communication system comprising a plurality of user hosted access points and a network controller. In some embodiments, each access point operates using short range licensed wireless frequencies to establish a service region. In some embodiments, the network controller communicatively couples the core network to the plurality of access points. The method establishes a communication through a Radio Access Network Application Part (RANAP) message from an access point to the network controller to explicitly indicate the start of a communication session. The method then passes a set of direct transfer messages, comprised in part of the RANAP message, to the core network.

The method enables an unauthorized user equipment to call from an access point it is not allowed to use for emergency purposes. The method receives at an access point a service request from an unauthorized user equipment with an establishment cause of emergency call. The method sends a registration request to the network controller. The method sends a message to the core network indicating the location of the user equipment.

In some embodiments, each access point operates using short range licensed wireless frequencies to establish a service region. In some embodiments, the network controller communicatively couples the core network to the plurality of access points. The method covers communication from the user equipment to an access point or from the core network to a network controller. The method sends of a radio access network application part (RANAP) message by identifying the RANAP message with a first header and encapsulating that message with a second header. The method passes the encapsulated message to its destination using information from the second header.

In some embodiments, each access point operates using short range licensed wireless frequencies to establish a service region. In some embodiments, the network controller communicatively couples the core network to the plurality of access points. The method uses three sets of protocol layers: a security layer, a transport layer, and a layer for transferring Radio Access Network Application Part (RANAP) messages, to communicate between the network controller and one of the access points. The method also uses the Iuh interface for the transport of messages across the three sets of protocol layers.

  • Publication number: 20090265542
Abstract: Some embodiments provide methods and systems for integrating a first communication system with a core network of a second communication system that has a licensed wireless radio access network. The first communication system includes one or more user hosted access points that operate using short range licensed wireless frequencies in order to establish service regions of the first communication system and a network controller for communicatively coupling the service regions to the core network. The first communication system includes a Home Node-B (HNB) system where the access points are Home Node-Bs and the network controller is a HNB Gateway (HNB-GW). Some embodiments define multi-layered protocol stacks for implementing management functionality and control plane functionality for the access points and the network controller. The HNB is connected to the HNB-GW via the Iuh interface.

  • Patent number: 7606190
Abstract: Methods for performing various operations via unlicensed mobile access (UMA) radio link control (URLC) messages in an unlicensed mobile access network (UMAN). The UMAN comprises a first radio access network that may be employed for accessing data services provided by a core network comprising a second radio access network. URLC messages are exchanged between mobile stations (MSs) and UMA network controllers (UNCs) to perform various operations associated with the UMAN. An MS may access the UMAN via a wireless access point (AP) that is communicatively coupled to a UNC via an IP network. The URLC messages are sent between MSs and UNCs using an Up interface comprising a set of layered protocols over an underlying IP transport.

  • Patent number: 7550575
Abstract: The present invention provides polynucleotides and related polypeptides (SEQ ID NO: 1 and 2) of the ZmARGOS (Auxin-Regulated Gene involved in Organ Size) gene family. The invention provides genomic sequence for the ZmARGOS genes. ZmARGOS is responsible for controlling plant growth, organ size and yield in crop plants. Transgenic plants expressing ZmARGOS show a positive impact on biomass accumulation and rate of maize plant growth, as well as an increase in organ size. These maize genes will find utility for enhancing agronomic traits in maize (and other crops).

  • Publication number: 20090094712
Abstract: The present invention provides methods and compositions for making and using transgenic plants that exhibit increased nitrogen storage capacity compared to wild-type plants. Methods of the invention comprise inducing overexpression of monocot-derived vegetative storage proteins (VSPs) in plants, particularly in monocots. In some embodiments, at least one nucleotide construct comprising a nucleotide sequence encoding the ZmLox6 protein or a biologically active fragment or variant thereof is introduced into a plant. Depending upon the objective, the nucleotide construct may optionally comprise an operably linked coding sequence for a vacuolar sorting signal or plastid transit peptide in order to direct storage of the ZmLox6 protein or biologically active fragment or variant thereof into the vacuolar compartment or plastid compartment, respectively, of the cells in which the VSP is expressed.

  • Publication number: 20080305792
Abstract: Some embodiments are implemented in a communication system that includes a first wireless communication system and a second wireless communication system that includes a Femtocell access point (FAP) and a network controller that can communicatively couple the FAP to the first wireless communication system. In some embodiments, the network controller can communicatively couple to the first wireless communication system through a UTRAN Iu interface. Some embodiments provide a resource management method that determines that a user equipment (UE) has roved in a region serviced by the FAP. The FAP includes a generic access resource control (GA-RC) protocol sub-layer. The method creates a separate GA-RC state dedicated to the UE in the GA-RC protocol sub-layer. The method also sets the GA-RC state dedicated to the UE to a deregistered state to indicate that the UE is not registered to use the services of the second wireless communication system.
