  • Patent number: 4491721
Abstract: An electric bed heating device for attachment to the understructure of a bed for supplying heat to a sleeper includes an electric heating element mounted below a metallic plate thermally insulated on its upper side and having a lower face shaped to radially downwardly direct heat. In one embodiment the heating element is directly supported by vertical fins extending downwardly and radially outwardly from the lower face of the plate with the fins and heating element being exposed. In another arrangement a serially slit lower metallic plate is spaced below the first mentioned plate to allow flow of air therebetween. The lower plate supports an electric heating element in the path of the air flow. The slits in the lower plate form offset air inlet and outlet openings. The plates are aligned and attached to the bed structure by a central fastener binding the plates together. The upper face of the lower plate is roughened and blackened to enhance heat absorption.

  • Patent number: 4197262
Abstract: Organic halides containing at least one halogen-replaceable bromine atom are reacted with chlorine in the presence of a catalyst selected from the group consisting of the halides of antimony, tin, zinc, or vanadium to form a corresponding organic halide having at least the one bromine atom replaced by a chlorine atom.

  • Patent number: 4134469
Abstract: A turbine in the form of an endless "Venetian blind" set of arcuate turbine blades mounted to extend between a pair of endless chains that are entrained over sets of sprockets so that two flights of the blades travel in opposite directions in closely spaced parallel planes. Shafts connect sprockets of the sets to maintain the blades parallel and to deliver to an alternator the torque applied to the sprockets by the reaction of the blades to a fluid passing therethrough.

  • Patent number: 4001293
Abstract: A new process for preparing .gamma.-halonitriles comprising reacting by contacting a 1,3-dihalopropane, such as 1-chloro-3-bromopropane, or mixtures thereof, such as 1-chloro-3-bromopropane and 1-chloro-3-iodopropane, with an alkali metal cyanide, such a sodium cyanide, in the presence of an onium salt, such as benzyltriethylammonium chloride, and an alkali metal halide, such as sodium chloride. The .gamma.-halonitriles are useful in preparing cyclopropylcyanide, a herbicide intermediate.

  • Patent number: 3979059
Abstract: A control means for regulating the operation of a system for controlling the temperature within an enclosure so that a desired temperature within the enclosure is attained at a predetermined time wherein the switch on time of a thermal conditioning apparatus for the enclosure is increasingly delayed as the temperature outside the enclosure changes towards the desired temperature, so as to avoid the thermal conditioning apparatus being switched on earlier than necessary before said predetermined time.

  • Patent number: 3932541
Abstract: Brominated pentaerythritols are prepared at reaction temperatures of from about 85.degree. to 135.degree.C. by reacting pentaerythritol with HBr in the liquid phase employing a solvent medium containing from about 0.8 to about 25 mole percent of an aliphatic carboxylic acid of 2 to 8 carbon atoms and their anhydrides, based on the pentaerythritol. The HBr is fed continuously to the reactor throughout the reaction. The water formed as a result of the reaction remains in the reaction mixture until substantial completion of the reaction. The product can be predominantly dibromoneopentyl glycol or tribromoneopentyl alcohol and is characterized by the absence of tar formation.
