  • Publication number: 20080019822
Abstract: An annular trapped vortex cavity assembly segment comprising includes a cavity forward wall, a cavity aft wall, and a cavity radially outer wall therebetween defining a cavity segment therein. A cavity opening extends between the forward and aft walls at a radially inner end of the assembly segment. Radially spaced apart pluralities of air injection first and second holes extend through the forward and aft walls respectively. The segment may include first and second expansion joint features at distal first and second ends respectively of the segment. The segment may include a forward subcomponent including the cavity forward wall attached to an aft subcomponent including the cavity aft wall. The forward and aft subcomponents include forward and aft portions of the cavity radially outer wall respectively. • Patent number: 6885791
Abstract: An integrated-optic attenuator/equalizer device comprising a photorefractive substrate, at least one optical waveguide channel formed in the substrate, at least one diffractive-Bragg grating formed in the substrate, and a diffractive-Bragg grating modulator that is capable of modulating the diffractive Bragg grating(s). The diffractive-Bragg grating(s) intersects the optical waveguide channel. When a diffractive-Bragg grating formed in the substrate is modulated, at least a fraction of light of a wavelength associated with the modulated diffractive-Bragg grating is re-directed by the modulated diffractive-Bragg grating, thereby preventing the re-directed fraction of light from arriving at the output of the optical waveguide channel.

  • Patent number: 6836502
Abstract: A light source for a spectroscopy unit that measures tissue includes a block for engaging tissue and a light source. The block is formed of translucent material. The light source is positioned in close proximity to the block either directly or through use of a light fiber. The light source produces light at a single wavelength or small range of wavelengths shorter than the desired range of wavelengths to be produced by the light source for the spectroscopy unit. A luminescent material is placed in the light path between light source and the tissue to produce the desired wavelength of light when pumped by the light source.

  • Patent number: 6567589
Abstract: An integrated-optic device comprising a photorefractive substrate, an optical waveguide channel and at least one diffractive Bragg grating integrated in the substrate and intersecting the optical waveguide channel. The diffractive Bragg grating(s) causes at least a fraction of light coupled into the optical waveguide channel to be coupled out of the optical waveguide channel.

  • Publication number: 20030063835
Abstract: An integrated-optic device comprising a photorefractive substrate, at least one optical waveguide channel formed in the substrate, and at least one diffractive-Bragg grating formed in the substrate. The diffractive-Bragg grating(s) intersects the optical waveguide channel. The diffractive-Bragg grating(s) is configurable to cause at least a fraction of light of at least one wavelength that has been coupled into an input of the optical waveguide channel to be re-directed by the diffractive-Bragg grating(s), thereby preventing the re-directed fraction of light from arriving at the output of the optical waveguide channel.

  • Patent number: 6336340
Abstract: A storage container for storing temperature sensitive materials, particularly materials that are sensitive to temperatures below zero degrees Centigrade, includes a two layer structure. The outer layer of the container is made of a material including a volume of coolant capable of being frozen to temperatures substantially below zero degrees Centigrade, such as −26° C. An inner layer of the container includes a volume of water that is selected relative to the volume coolant in the outer layer such that, when the two layers are combined, material held within the inner layer is maintained above 0° C. Both inner and outer layers of the container may be structured, for example, as envelope products.

  • Patent number: 5711717
Abstract: Apparatus for guiding a simulated golf swing consists of a golf club handle fixed at one end of a mechanical linkage whose other end can be fixed to a wall. The handle is fixed, so as to be rotatable about its own axis, to a crank of the linkage. The crank is connected in turn to an elongate arm pivoted at the fixing location so as to guide a swing in a basic arc. A central pivot of the crank permits the user's wrists to flex during the swing. The handle carries a projecting pointer which moves over an index plate fixed to the adjacent connector on the crank. The index plate has stop lugs to limit the rotation of the handle by abutting the turning pointer. A scale on the index plate enables a suitable address position to be selected. By thus controlling and indicating the handle's rotation it becomes possible to school the user's hand movements and thereby improve the alignment of the club face during the swing. (FIGS.

  • Patent number: 5144418
Abstract: In one system configuration the size of the horizontal sweep of light valve projection apparatus is regulated from two pulses, one at the start of the sweep and one nominally in the second half of the sweep, wherein the reference signal for determining the regulation pulses is obtained from one of two oscillators. A first keyed voltage controlled oscillator is used as a reference source when color is considered to be a more critical feature and a second free running oscillator is used as a reference source when horizontal size is considered to be a more critical feature, such as when a plurality of side-by-side registered images from a corresponding plurality of projectors are desired. Provision is included for fine adjustment of the horizontal size and frequency of the first oscillator for color control. Operator inputs may be received through an information interface.

  • Patent number: 4268834
Abstract: Serially connected UHF and VHF tuners and control of the lead lengths of the conductors to the tuners from the antenna permit utilization of a single antenna for both the UHF and VHF tuners without need for a crossover network. If the lead lengths are selected to present minimal impedance at the highest UHF frequencies to be received, the intrinsic input impedance for each tuner can be utilized as the crossover network, allowing UHF signals to be applied to the UHF tuner and VHF signals to be applied to the VHF tuner. By use of both external and internal leads in conjunction with a terminal block, each of the tuners is made available for dual antenna operation.
