  • Patent number: 8611183
Abstract: Refracted ultrasonic waves are utilized to calculate tool standoff. An ultrasonic transmitter sends a wave toward (and into) the borehole wall at a critical incidence angle for refracted waves. The refracted wave travels along the borehole wall and continuously radiates energy back into the borehole at the critical angle. The refracted wave is detected by a receiver, and the travel time of the refracted acoustic wave from transmitter to receiver is measured and used to calculate standoff. By making repeated measurements at various azimuths (for instance, as the tool rotates), one or more caliper measurements can be made. The caliper measurements can be combined to yield two-dimensional geometry of the borehole. Measurements made at different azimuths and depths yield three-dimensional borehole geometry. Arrays of transmitter-receiver pairs can be used to obviate the need for varying azimuth.

  • Publication number: 20130295561
Abstract: The present invention relates to methods of enriching fetal cells from a pregnant female. The present invention relates to removing, from a sample, cells that comprise at least one MHC molecule. The present invention also relates to methods that rely on using telomerase, mRNA encoding components thereof, as well as telomere length, as markers for fetal cells. Enriched fetal cells can be used in a variety of procedures including, detection of a trait of interest such as a disease trait, or a genetic predisposition thereto, gender typing and parentage testing.

  • Publication number: 20130081346
Abstract: Embodiments of the invention provide apparatus and methods for insulating a structure. A method for insulating a structure may include providing a frame that comprises a plurality of frame members coupled together. Sheathing panels may be coupled to the frame members such that adjacent sheathing panels abut and directly contact each other at an interface to form a wall having a front surface and a rear surface. A spray insulation material may be applied to the front surface of the wall such that the insulation material forms a substantially continuous insulation layer atop the front surface and such that the insulation material directly contacts the interface between adjacent sheathing panels to restrict passage of air between the adjacent panels to at or below 0.2 L/m2/s at a differential pressure across the wall of 75 Pa.

  • Patent number: 8394582
Abstract: The present invention relates to the identification of fetal specific nucleic acids and fetal cell markers in maternal plasma or serum. In particular, the present invention relates to methods which rely on the analysis of polymorphic alleles of a population to determine an allele which is possessed by the fetus but absent from the mother. Fetal specific alleles identified using the methods of the invention can be used to quantify fetal DNA from maternal plasma or serum. In addition, antigens encoded by alleles identified using the methods of the invention can be targeted in methods of isolating or detecting fetal cells.

  • Patent number: 8108967
Abstract: A handle assembly for a cleaning appliance includes a slidably extendible wand and a connecting portion that includes a first locking arrangement releasably securing the handle assembly to the main body of the cleaning appliance, a second locking arrangement releasably locking the wand in a pre-determined position with respect to the connecting portion and an actuator. The actuator is adapted and arranged to move the first and second locking arrangements between locked and unlocked positions. The first locking arrangement is movable independently of the actuator. This arrangement allows a single actuator to be operated by a user to unlock both the first and second locking arrangements simultaneously. However, because the first locking arrangement can move independently of the second locking arrangement, it is possible to secure the handle assembly to the main body of the cleaning appliance while keeping the wand in a locked position.

  • Patent number: 8057881
Abstract: A fungi resistant asphalt is combined with a base sheet to form a fungi resistant asphalt containing sheet material. Typically, the base sheet is a fibrous base sheet that, by itself, may or may not be fungi resistant. The fungi resistant asphalt is at least partially absorbed by the base sheet to form the fungi resistant asphalt containing sheet material and typically forms one or both major surfaces of the fungi resistant asphalt containing sheet material.

  • Patent number: 8037055
Abstract: Methods and systems for a sitemap generating client for web crawlers are described. The client accesses one or more sources of document information about the documents available on a website, such as the file system, access logs, or pre-made URL lists. Document information is extracted from the sources and one or more sitemaps are generated based on the extracted document information. A notification is transmitted to a remote computer, informing that the sitemap(s) are available for access and likely have been updated. If the remote computer is associated with a web crawler, the remote computer may access the sitemap(s) and use the sitemaps to schedule a crawl of documents included or available on the website.

  • Patent number: 7996956
Abstract: A cleaning appliance includes a main body and a collecting chamber releasably held on the main body. The collecting chamber includes a closure member which is movable between a closed position and an open position in which the collecting chamber can be emptied and an actuating member adapted and arranged to release the collecting chamber from the main body and, when the collecting chamber is released from the main body, to release the closure member from the closed position. By providing such an arrangement, a single actuating member can be used to release the collecting chamber from the main body of the cleaning appliance and also to open the closure member to empty the collecting chamber. A single actuating member is less complex, requires less space and is more intuitive for a user to operate.
