    Abstract: A medical grasping device (10) for vascular use, having an outer sheath (12), an elongate control member (50) extending within an outer sheath (12) to a distal tip section (54), and a proximal control assembly (22) including an actuation section (24) joined to the elongate control member (50). Adjacent to the distal tip section (54) is a grasping portion (70, 70?) that is extendable from the outer sheath (12) to create loops (74, 74?) for grasping a target object (T) for repositioning within the vascular system, or for removal from the patient, with loops being retractable into the outer sheath to hold the target object against the device (10) during movement of the device. Elongate control member (50) is preferably a cannula or tube having a lumen (58) extending completely therethrough for placement over a guide wire (28) already in the patient.

    Abstract: Medical devices, as well as methods of treatment and manufacturing such devices, are provided for applying vascular therapy locally within the body vessel. The medical devices include an expandable tubular frame and a sleeve or graft material. The medical devices can be used for local delivery of a therapeutic agent within a body vessel or a tamponade for a lacerated body vessel, while simultaneously allowing perfusion of fluid or blood flow distal of the implanted medical device. The tubular frame of the medical device may have a proximal non-expanding portion and a distal self-expanding support structure. The self-expanding support structure can expand radially outward to urge the graft material to contact the wall of the body vessel. In the expanded configuration, a portion of the device allows fluid flow to continue while the sleeve is against the body vessel wall.

    Abstract: Valvulotome devices comprising a cutting edge are provided. Some valvulotome devices incisably engage a venous valve leaflet within a body vessel while at least a portion of the cutting edge is oriented substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis of the valvulotome device. Valvulotome devices are preferably configured to slidably engage a venous valve leaflet upon translation of the valvulotome device along the longitudinal axis of a body vessel. A valvulotome device can further comprise one or more valvulotome arms of variable lengths and dimensions. In some embodiments, the valvulotome device can be self expanding. Embodiments of the invention also provide delivery systems comprising a valvulotome device. The present invention also provides for methods of using a valvulotome device. Kits comprising a valvulotome device are also provided.

Preferably, a portion of the implantable medical device can define a sinus region having a preferred geometry. The sinus region can have one or more preferred geometric configurations described herein, for example to mitigate or prevent thrombosis within a body vessel. The medical device can include a valve means, such as one or more valve leaflets positioned within the sinus region. The implantable medical devices can be delivered from a catheter within a body vessel, and are preferably expandable from a compressed configuration to a radially expanded configuration. The implantable frames can be self-expanding or balloon expandable. Portions of the medical device, such as the implantable frame or a valve leaflet, are optionally coated with one or more bioactive materials.

    Abstract: The present invention provides a medical grasping device including an an elongate control member, an outer sheath, and an actuation section. The elongate control member includes an atraumatic distal tip section, a proximal end portion, and a grasping portion positioned between the proximal end portion and the distal tip section. The outer sheath includes a distal end and a proximal end, and has a passageway that extends between the distal and proximal ends. The elongate control member is slidable within the passageway and its proximal end portion is connected to the actuation section. The actuation section is operated to move the grasping portion in and out of the distal end of the outer sheath and includes a retraction mechanism that biases the actuation section and hence the grasping portion toward a retracted state.

    Abstract: A one-way valve apparatus for use in draining fluid from a patient comprises a housing having an inlet end, an outlet end and a valve-receiving chamber therebetween. A valve is positioned in the chamber. The valve has an inlet end, an outlet end and a fluid pathway extending therebetween. The valve is made up of first and second generally flat elongated members joined along respective longitudinal edges. The valve inlet end is engaged with the housing inlet end to comprise an open end for receiving fluid to be drained. The valve outlet end is in a normally closed position. The valve is adapted to partially open to permit drainage of fluid received through the pathway, and to return to the normally closed position upon drainage of the fluid. The valve outlet end communicates with the housing outlet end such that the drained fluid passes from the valve outlet end through the housing outlet end.

    Abstract: A vascular conduit device and a delivery system for intraoperative repair damaged portion of an artery or vein and methods of use are provided. The device has a cylindrical body and may include a shaped member, such as a microbarb, configured to anchor into the tunica intima and the tunica media of the vessel wall, and not to the tunic adventitia and vasa vasorum. Various configurations and orientations of the microbarbs are provided, including microbarbs that are preferably aligned at an acute angle in the range of about 5 to 30 degrees and having a substantially parallel surface. The delivery system preferably has a translatable dilator tip that when retracted is configured to engage with the device during delivery. When the dilator tip is extended, the device can be implanted into the vessel wall. The vascular conduit device can be assembled during the emergency open surgical procedure.
