  • Patent number: 9117263
Abstract: The noise in an image having text is removed by convolving a shaped kernel centered on a pixel for each pixel in the image. The shaped kernel has a shape configured to identify pixels that are not part of the text. For example, the shaped kernel may be shaped with zeros in a center of the kernel to identify pixels that are not part of the text. A value for the pixel is set to erase the pixel when the resulting convolution value for the pixel is less than a threshold. The process may be repeated multiple times for differently shaped kernels, including kernels of different sizes and different configurations, such as having values greater than one in at least one of a row, column, and diagonal.

  • Patent number: 9094979
Abstract: Techniques for selecting a serving sector for a terminal based on server selection information in order to balance the load of sectors in a wireless communication system are described. The server selection information for each sector may be set based on the load of the sector and may be used to rank the sector for selection as a serving sector. In one design, a terminal may receive server selection information for multiple sectors. The server selection information for each sector may include an offset used to adjust a measurement made by the terminal for the sector, a priority of the sector for selection as a serving sector, a DRCLock set based on the load of the sector, etc. The terminal may determine received signal qualities of the sectors. The terminal may then select one of the sectors as a serving sector based on the server selection information and the received signal qualities of the sectors.

  • Publication number: 20150193947
Abstract: Methods, devices, and computer program products for generating high dynamic range images with reduced ghosting and motion blur are disclosed herein. In some aspects, methods of detecting areas of motion blur in an image are disclosed. This detection may be based on either a row-based approach, or a patch-based approach. These approaches may be used to classify images or portions of images as being either blurry or sharp, based upon a threshold value. The threshold value may be determined empirically.

  • Publication number: 20150195464
Abstract: Methods, devices, and computer program products for capturing images with reduced blurriness in low light conditions are contained herein. In one aspect, a method of capturing an image is disclosed. The method includes capturing a plurality of first images with a first exposure length. The method further includes aligning each of the plurality of first images with each other and combining the aligned plurality of first images into a combined first image. The method further includes capturing a second image with a second exposure length, wherein the second exposure length is longer than the first exposure length and using the second image to adjust the brightness of the combined first image.

  • Patent number: 9076257
Abstract: A mobile device detects a moveable foreground object in captured images, e.g., a series of video frames without depth information. The object may be one or more of the user's fingers. The object may be detected by warping one of a captured image of a scene that includes the object and a reference image of the scene without the object so they have the same view and comparing the captured image and the reference image after warping. A mask may be used to segment the object from the captured image. Pixels are detected in the extracted image of the object and the pixels are used to detect the point of interest on the foreground object. The object may then be tracked in subsequent images. Augmentations may be rendered and interacted with or temporal gestures may be detected and desired actions performed accordingly.

  • Publication number: 20150179147
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for trimming content for projection within the bounds of a projection target. The systems and methods trim the content for projection based on one or more characteristics of the projection target, including a shape, outline, and distance to the projection target. Moreover, the systems and methods designate void areas where no content will be projected based on the one or more characteristics, and the void areas will be generated or otherwise projected along with the content so that the content is projected onto the projection target and the void areas are projected outside of the projection target such that the projected content does not significantly spill onto surfaces or objects outside of the projection target.

  • Publication number: 20150146693
Abstract: In some aspects, restricted access nodes are assigned to a designated common channel while access terminals that are in active communication with a macro access node may selectively be assigned to the designated channel. In some aspects, an access terminal associated with macro access node may perform a handoff to a different carrier when the access terminal is in the vicinity of a coverage area of a restricted access node. In some aspects, an access terminal associated with a macro access node may perform a handoff to a different carrier based on location information. In some aspects, access to a restricted access node is controlled based on policy and/or based on operation of an access terminal associated with the restricted access node.

  • Publication number: 20150063718
Abstract: Techniques are described for enhancing quality of a first image that is captured in a low-light environment. In one embodiment, a second image is generated by brightening a plurality of pixels in the first image based on a predefined criteria. A third image is generated using an edge-preserving noise reduction algorithm based on the second image. Further, a composite image is generated by obtaining a weighted average of the first image and the third image. The techniques described herein can be applied to an image and/or to each frame of a video that is captured in low-light environments.

  • Patent number: 8958375
Abstract: Framing techniques for an improved radio link protocol used in a wireless communication system, such as EV-DO. In one embodiment scheduling of the generation of repair symbols encoded to be transmitted along with source data is described. In another embodiment acknowledgment messages from a receiver are used to control the trailing edge of the protection window offered by the repair symbols. In another embodiment, non-acknowledgment messages from a receiver are used to control the generation of extra repair symbols. In another embodiment, a length field is used to avoid transmission of padding bytes over the air. In yet another embodiment, a symbol auxiliary field is appended to source symbols to indicate the padding bytes needed for symbol aligning thus avoiding the transmission of padding bytes over the air.

  • Publication number: 20140375865
Abstract: Systems, devices, and methods are described for efficiently super resolving a portion of an image. One embodiment involves capturing, using a camera module of a device, at least one image of a scene, and creating a higher resolution image of a user-selected region of interest. The super resolution of the region of interest may be performed by matching a high resolution grid with a grid that is at the resolution of a device camera, populating the high resolution grid with information from an image from the camera, and then populating the remaining points of the grid that are not yet populated.

  • Publication number: 20140362773
Abstract: Local IP access is provided in a wireless network to facilitate access to one or more local services. In some implementations, different IP interfaces are used for accessing different services (e.g., local services and operator network services). A list that maps packet destinations to IP interfaces may be employed to determine which IP interface is to be used for sending a given packet. In some implementations an access point provides a proxy function (e.g., a proxy ARP function) for an access terminal. In some implementations an access point provides an agent function (e.g., a DHCP function) for an access terminal. NAT operations may be performed at an access point to enable the access terminal to access local services. In some aspects, an access point may determine whether to send a packet from an access terminal via a protocol tunnel based on the destination of the packet.

  • Publication number: 20140307960
Abstract: Apparatuses and methods for reading a set of images to merge together into a high dynamic range (HDR) output image are described. Images have a respective HDR weight and a respective ghost-free weight. Images are merged together using the weighted average of the set of input images using the ghost-free weight. A difference image is determined based on a difference between each pixel within a HDR output image and each respective pixel within a reference image used to create the HDR output image.
