  • Patent number: 5779228
Abstract: A vehicle hand rail assembly is provided having an elongated bar. A first section of the bar defines a gripping area, and a second section of the bar is configured to receive and retain at least one light element longitudinally disposed along the bar. At least one mounting member secures the bar in position with respect to a surface of the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 5137327
Abstract: Combined vehicle vent and escape hatch having a frame bounding a roof opening, a cover hingedly connected to opposite sides of the frame by hinge brackets for limited venting movement relative to one or more of the sides, one of the brackets being separable into cover and frame parts and normally prevented from separating by a cammable release rod engaging the cover part and a frame-backed movable stop plate backing the rod, and an emergency button instanding from the cover and when pushed operative to project the cover from all of said sides to full venting position and separate the parts of the separable bracket for enabling the cover, as an escape hatch, to be swung about the opposite bracket to open position. For extending the service life of the combined vent and hatch, an inner panel of the cover is backed by a rigid metal backup plate on which, for relieving the panel of stress, are hung the operating parts attached to the cover.

  • Patent number: 5046770
Abstract: A bar lock includes one piece, preassembled latch modules. Each of the latch modules defines a rotatable shaft which supports a operating bar receiving socket at one end and a cam at the other. Each of the modules defines several locating elements which are used to locate and secure the preassembled module in place on a panel. The operating rod can be mechanically interlocked with the module to allow rapid and efficient assembly.

  • Patent number: 4911489
Abstract: A T-handle latch in which a housing is designed for reception in an opening of an item to be latched. A shank of a handle is rotationally disposed in the housing, and an actuating member of the latch is fixed on the end of the shank. The shank may be received in a shank-receiving opening of the actuating member, the opening being elongate so that the actuating member may be fixed in any of a plurality of discrete transverse positions with respect to the shank. Keying elements on the shank and in the shank-receiving opening define the discrete positions and are useful in achieving initial adjustment of the latch, in preventing the latch from slipping out of adjustment during use, and in helping to prevent relative rotation of the shank and the actuating member. Return springs bias the handle toward a neutral, home position. The return springs may be housed completely within the body of the latch, thereby protecting them from accidential damage, dislodging or loss during use, installation or shipping.

  • Patent number: 4895332
Abstract: An anti-slip grab rail and grab rail assembly, the grab rail providing improved gripping surfaces which, in the preferred embodiments, are formed by a plurality of exposed surfaces of a rigid elongate bar alternating with a plurality of elastomeric members extending longitudinally of the bar. The elastomeric members preferably take the form of inserts secured within cavities that extend longitudinally of the bar at the surface of the bar. The inserts may be secured within the cavities by aligning the inserts adjacent to the cavities and pushing them transversely into the cavities such that the inserts snap into place and are retained by an interference fit with a portion of a structure of the rail.

  • Patent number: 4420954
Abstract: A paddle handle actuated latch mechanism has the paddle handle pivotally mounted within a recess formed in a rectangular tray. A bolt is mounted in a housing attached to the back of the tray. A slide bar mounted in the bolt housing is connected to the bolt and has a portion which projects through an opening in the tray and is engaged by the handle when the handle is actuated. The lock bar is connected to the bolt such that when the paddle handle is moved from a stored position to an operated position, the slide bar moves from a locked position to an unlocked position which moves the bolt from an extended position to a retracted position.

  • Patent number: 4268077
Abstract: A door actuator for a commercial vehicle includes a mechanism which biases the handle to a stored position and a latch which maintains the handle in the stored position. A key operated lock mechanism cooperates with the latch to lock the handle in the stored position.

  • Patent number: 3953061
Abstract: A rotatable cam disc has connected thereto linkage means for operating latch bolts. The cam disc has an arcuate cutout in the edge portion thereof defining a pair of end shoulders. A lock actuator plate is rotatable coaxially of the cam disc, and has secured thereto a post member movable within the cam disc cutout. Upon rotation of the lock plate actuator, the post member is engageable with an end shoulder of the cam disc for effecting rotation of the latter and actuation of the linkage means.
